Episode 4

Chapter 4

When I finished remembering those fragments of the story, which, by the way, I don't remember the name of, since it wasn't one of my favorites, I felt overwhelmed. Although it wasn't the typical bloodbath story that I liked, everyone lived and died sad and lonely. I didn't like those kinds of novels at all. Besides, that ending was horrible. I needed people dying brutally, not that; however, when I started a novel I had to finish it, that's why I read it and didn't leave it in the middle.

Since Maria was still by my side, I asked her questions to find out where in the story I was. When she finished telling me some things that she thought were more important for me to know, due to my lack of memory, I began to think seriously about what I remembered from the novel. According to everything she told me, I can deduce that I find myself right in the part of the story where many things that had happened were not explained.

I'm at the part where little Marcos is five years old. That means that six years have already passed since that wedding night that marked the beginning and the end of each character's story.

I think it would be convenient for me to use the diagnosis of amnesia that the doctor gave me to my advantage. That way I could move between all the places in the palace.

After spending the required rest time that the doctor gave me, so that no one would suspect anything strange, I decided to go for a walk around the palace. I was already bored of being locked up and now I wanted to enjoy a great morning in one of the spectacular gardens that were named in the novel.

One of the maids guides me to the garden of my palace. When we arrived I was in shock. It was the most horrible and lifeless thing I had ever seen. Where were those beautiful gardens that were described in five pages in the novel I read? Most of the plants were dry and some had already passed away. I was sure that if I went and touched them they would crumble in my hands.

"What is this place? Is this what they call a garden? This is horrible! Doesn't anyone take care of this place?"

The maid looks at me completely confused, not knowing what to say. When she is about to open her mouth, she closes it again. Already impatient to see her hold back what she wanted to tell me, I say...

"Speak up, no one is going to scold you here!"

"The thing is, your majesty, that you ordered that no one water the garden, and since it lacks a lot of water, it dried up until it looked like this,"

said the girl, a little afraid of my reaction.

"Oh!!"

Now I am surprised. Who in their right mind would think it's a great idea to leave the garden without water so that it ends up like this? Oh, my dear Iris, you were such a fool. This garden looks like the garden of a horror movie.

"Well, what's done is done. Ha ha ha! See to it that someone fixes this garden. For now, let's go to another one and have them bring me breakfast there."

"Madam, are you going to leave this palace?"

said the woman, very surprised by my words.

"Yes, why? Am I forbidden to leave here?"

"No! Of course not, my lady. I'm just surprised, you've never wanted to leave here. You haven't left once since you arrived."

"Well, it's time to change that. Besides, going out will do me good with my amnesia. Don't you think?"

"Of course, my lady,"

she said with a big smile as if she was very happy about my change.

We both walked until we reached the nearest garden, although it was exhausting on foot. When I was able to sit down, I told the maid to go to the kitchen and freshen up and then bring me breakfast. I sat for a long time enjoying the wind, when suddenly I heard a voice behind me that irritated me from the start.

"Who gave you permission to be here? This is the emperor's palace and no one can just come and take possession of his things. Leave now if you don't want me to call the guards."

Tired of all that talk, I turn around and see a maid with a sour face, staring at me.

"I hope you're not talking to me like that!"

"Ha! Such arrogance, get out of here you damn freeloader!"

She said shouting.

"Look, girl, take it down a notch with the way you talk to me. You can't talk to me like that."

I replied, yelling at her the same way she did to me.

It seems that upon hearing our screams, the guards approach to see what is happening.

"What's going on here?"

Without giving me time to answer, the maid replies.

"This woman here, I saw her sitting here without anyone's permission, I told her that she couldn't be here because it is a forbidden place for people and she started yelling at me to leave and threatened to hit me."

The guards seem to believe the woman because before I know it they have grabbed me by the arms and are dragging me away.

"Let go of me immediately!"

Since they don't let me go, I decide to ask where they are taking me.

"Listen, you, where are you taking me? You can't take me like this!"

"We are going to take you to his majesty to punish you for being here without permission and for trying to assault a maid of the palace, for no reason."

Hearing his words I shut up, it seems I'm going to meet my husband sooner than expected. To think that I just wanted to have breakfast outdoors and enjoy nature. Well, it's a shame, but I'll take advantage of it and meet my poor beau from the novel.
