I stood there letting the blue mist embrace me, hiding me from the world. The moonlight caressed my bruises, easing the pain. The wind was singing as if to comfort me. I stepped into the water ,letting the river wash away the dirt and blood from my bare feet.
I could hear them wandering around , shouting ,looking for me. But I don't care. I'm here, where I belong. Why do they even care where I go?
I look up at sky. Stars were sprinkled across the heavens. I lied on the ground feet still in water. The smooth pebbles felt nice .
This is where I belong. Where no one can find me. Where my mother, Mother Nature protects me. I smiled as a beautiful moth landed on my corset. I put a finger beneath it ,lightly lifting it to my sight. It was green and blue and black and white.
I heard them coming. I felt the mist unveiling.
"This is it. " I whispered to the moth "You know it don't you? "
Its wings had the colors of everything I hold dear, I realized.
I sat up. I'm not running ,not anymore. I could sense their torches burning the mist away. I smiled as I waited for them.
They tied my wrists together. They dragged behind their horse. I smiled. My dress was getting torn and now the rocks dig into my skin, occasionally .
The forest is clearing. I caught a glimpse of a black cat, could it be a panther?, as I was dragged out of the forest into the clearing.
There is a crowd, there are people shouting at me, throwing stones at me. I felt blood trickle into my left eye.
Someone pulled me to my feet. I winced.
"What do you have to say for yourself? " A man boomed at me."Speak now or forever hold your peace "I smiled yet again, refusing to speak.
"Then let it begin "
I was tied to a crucifix. I looked at sky, and then at the woods. Fireflies..
The fire licked at my dress. I could feel it climbing up me. I smiled as I imagined myself turning into firedust, that glowing bits of fire that rises to sky.
Now I'm going back to where I belong. Maybe I can be a firefly and join the rest of them. I smile to the sky one last time as my consciousness slips away and I start to fall into the eternal sleep. I am going back to where I belong
