A man and a woman began their relationship two years ago, at which point the man obtained the woman's phone number from one of her good friends who was with her. They were often found at the same bus stop, at the same time and boarding the same bus.
The man was a basketball athlete selected to represent the state to state -level competitions. Over time, he felt as if he didn’t have enough time even though one day had 24 hours.
He rarely spent time with the woman let alone in touch with her. On a rather cloudy day, the woman called the man and said that she wanted to meet the man somewhere. The man agreed and continued to turn off his cell phone as he needed to train for the competition.
The woman continued to wait and wait until 10pm patiently, even though she felt that it was already over the limit as she had been waiting for the man since this afternoon. However, the man never showed up.
After finishing training, the man felt very tired and went straight home to rest until he forgot to meet his girlfriend. His phone rang by the time he almost fell asleep. He lazily reached for the phone and saw the caller's ID. That was his girlfriend.
Upon seeing the caller's name, he set his phone to silent mode and went back to sleep. Sometimes he felt that the woman did not understand his busy situation. The situation lasted for almost a week and he felt something was wrong with her because she did not call him at all after that night.
He decided to go to the woman's house tonight and apologize to her. After practicing, he continued to go to his girlfriend's house with a bouquet of red roses that had been prepared to appease the woman's sullen heart.
However, as soon as he arrived at her house, he was shocked to see so many people unloading her belongings in her house. "What happened?" he asked one of the workers unloading the goods.
Before he could hear the answer from the employee, someone first reprimanded him from behind. "Are you Jeremy?" asked a woman with swollen eyes from crying.
"Yes, it's me!"
"She asked me to hand this to you" the woman said as she handed over a dark purple box.
The man found a letter as soon as he opened the box.
In the letter:
>>To my dearest Jeremy,
You are the best man I have ever met. I apologize for not telling all this from the beginning. I don't want you to stress because that will affect your perfomance in the competition later. I had been diagnosed with liver cancer and by the time I found out, it was already in its final stages. I want to meet you to tell you this, but I'm so thankful you didn't come. Don't forget to eat on time and take care of your health. I will not be forever there to remind you. I love you always and forever.

"She's gone. She's gone, three days ago," the woman said.
The man felt very sad and sorry for not coming to their last meeting. How he was so sorry he didn't answer the call from the woman. Inside the box, too, was a chain and bracelet he had once given her.
After that, he walked home with a heart full of remorse. As if knowing his condition, the rain fell to the ground while hugging his body which was in grief at the time, wetting a picture showing a woman smiling sweetly along with himself whom he was staring at at the time.
