Again, it is the third time this week. My name is Yuji, I am a Japanese resident, and I live with my mother as my father received an opportunity for a new, well-paying job abroad, so he comes home on vacations only. He went bankrupt recently due to the stock market. Since then, he has been working hard to raise us from our financial problems.
Back to the present, there are some terrific and horrible nightmares, which gave me chills down the spine. Today I got another one. It is the third time it happened this same week. Mother is considering me to meet a psychiatrist. After waking up from my dream, which makes me wonder why this was happening, is it due to sci-fi, crime and mystery movies and series that I have been watching. At first, watching 2-3 episodes was fun and knowledgeable, but later as time passed, it made me addicted. Addicted enough to skip colleges for days to watch some series and movies.
Mother knocks on the door and said “your late wake up”. For the past few weeks, I have been skipping many lectures at this rate it will affect my grades. I should attend, at least some of the lectures after taking a short bath and grabbing my lunch running on the way down the stairs in hurry, there is new neighbor that’s weird because our building is very old and in a bad condition so it has been years since we had anyone in our neighbourhood. After I reached college entrance gate, some of my friends were there so we chitchatted a bit then went to our respective classes at the second lecture as the first lecture was already over.
Sitting at the last bench as usual, I am bored because of all the frequent absences everything the teacher is teaching is very hard to understand. Therefore, my focus changes from lectures to a movie that coincidentally are similar to questions I have in my mind about those nightmares that have been appearing recently. The movie states a theory that whatever we dream about is about to happen in the future or in a parallel universe. Which of course is hypothetical because until up to date there is no such proof that states it is true. That sparks my curiosity even more and numerous questions started popping inside my head “are the dreams real from parallel universe or future?”
All the similarities from the sci-fi movies and my dreams I started writing it down in my notebook it is my habit to write down such mysteries and questions since the childhood. After some time, a chalk came hitting my face it was teacher and I realized she is angry because I am not focusing on the lectures. She started scolding me every minute passed like an hour than she told me to write an essay after lectures as punishment after writing it down as soon as possible, I submitted to her.
While heading home from college my phone received a notification, there is a message from my mother to bring some eggs for dinner. All the grocery shops nearby were closed as it is very late due to the punishment at college. So after looking for a while, thankfully a shop is open; as it is very late and I don’t have a habit to stay outside this late in the evening after buying those eggs from the shop I ran on the way home. While climbing upstairs I saw that, man who bought the house in our neighbourhood. He is wearing a long detective like jacket, and is walking down the stairs.so after reaching at my house, I knocked the door but mother did not responded after waiting for a while. As my mother never goes out this late outside the house even if she does, she informs me beforehand. A feeling of anxiety and fear ran through my body even after knocking on the door repeatedly and calling her on the cellphone she didn’t opened the door, or answered the call.
So calling the owner of the building is the best option, after calling him he came after around 10-15 minutes as he lives nearby. Using the spare key, he unlocked the door and we went inside. What I saw inside the room it gave me a feeling as if someone had hit me with a baseball bat in my head, tears started to come out of my eyes and my body started to tremble. After seeing mother lying down, stabbed from behind with a knife, blood is everywhere around her, a scream came out of me in anger and despair.
Then a voice came—a familiar one everything is blurry and non-understandable. It is unclear and that voice started approaching me. Slowly, that voice became Clearer and the voice is saying, “Yuji, wake up, Yuji”, as opening my eyes I Saw my mother in front of me. She asked. “Why am you screaming, did you have Nightmares again”. As soon as she heard me screaming and crying, she rushed into my room after crying a lot it made me feel happy that it was a dream. She said it is the fourth time in a row this week having this nightmare. Then I started thinking yes, it had happened before, too. It was way too real and a question again popped up in my head.
Were they really dreams?
