The Secret Between Us
The school corridors buzzed with excitement as students rushed to prepare for the annual festival. Decorations covered every classroom, and laughter echoed through the halls.
But for Ariana, none of it mattered.
Her eyes searched only for Elena.
Ever since Elena had confessed that she remembered fragments of another life, Ariana couldn't stop thinking about it. The dreams, the familiar places, the strange feeling of déjà vu—they all pointed toward something impossible.
"Ariana."
She turned to find Elena standing by the classroom door.
"Can we talk?"
Ariana nodded.
The two girls walked to the rooftop, where the cool evening breeze greeted them.
"You've been avoiding me," Elena said softly.
"I haven't."
"You have."
Ariana lowered her gaze.
"I'm scared."
Elena blinked. "Scared of what?"
"That if fate brought us together once before..." Ariana whispered, "...it could also take you away again."
Silence filled the rooftop.
Then Elena stepped closer.
"In every life," she said, her voice trembling, "I think I'd still choose you."
Ariana's heart raced.
Memories flashed before her eyes.
Rain.
A train station.
A promise.
A tearful goodbye.
She gasped and grabbed Elena's hand.
"I remember..."
Elena stared at her.
"You do?"
Ariana nodded, tears forming in her eyes.
"We promised to find each other again."
Elena smiled through her tears.
"And we did."
Just as their hands tightened together, footsteps echoed behind them.
"You shouldn't remember."
Both girls froze.
Standing at the rooftop entrance was a mysterious girl dressed in the school uniform.
Her expression was cold.
"If your memories return completely," she warned, "history will repeat itself."
"Who are you?" Ariana demanded.
The girl looked at them sadly.
"In your previous life..."
"...I was your best friend."
The wind grew stronger as Ariana and Elena exchanged shocked glances.
What tragedy had happened before?
And why was someone trying to stop fate from bringing them together?
To be continued...
