The city of Novacron never slept.
Even at midnight, neon lights flashed across the giant buildings while flying cars crossed the polluted sky. News screens played the same warning every single night.
“S class villain Nyra Vale remains active.”
“Citizens are advised to stay inside.”
“Do not approach her under any circumstances.”
Yet one person kept approaching her anyway.
Vael.
At first, Nyra truly thought he was insane.
Every time she cornered a criminal, he appeared out of nowhere like a ghost.
One night she held a knife near a smuggler’s throat.
Another night she almost shattered a corrupt officer’s arm.
And every single time
“Boss, please hire me.”
“Boss, make me your assistant.”
“Boss, look at me once.”
Nyra finally snapped.
Rain poured heavily around them while the terrified criminal cried nearby.
Vael held onto Nyra’s sleeve shamelessly.
“Please.”
Nyra looked down at him coldly.
“If I make you my assistant, you are not allowed to stop me no matter what I do.”
Vael froze.
Then slowly
His eyes lit up beautifully.
Like a child hearing the words he waited for forever.
“Really?”
Nyra’s eyebrow twitched.
“You’re unbelievably annoying.”
Before she could react, Vael suddenly hugged her tightly.
“Thank you, boss.”
Nyra immediately pushed his face away.
“Get off me before I throw you into the ocean.”
But despite her cold words
The corner of her lips lifted slightly.
Far away inside a high rise clinic, Dr. Kael Arden watched the security reports quietly.
The police officers around him looked exhausted.
“She accepted him?”
Another officer sighed nervously.
“That boy follows her everywhere.”
Kael’s expression darkened slightly.
(What is he trying to do?)
Everyone feared Nyra Vale.
Not only because of her strength.
But because she was the only S class villain alive.
The government only had A class and B class protectors now.
There had once been another S class.
A famous hero admired by the whole world.
People called him humanity’s shield.
Until Nyra killed him publicly.
The world immediately called her a monster again.
Nobody cared that the so called hero secretly destroyed lives behind closed doors.
Nobody cared that Nyra exposed the truth.
The world only saw one thing.
The villain killed a hero.
Kael remembered visiting Nyra in prison years ago after that incident.
She sat silently inside the dark cell while reporters screamed outside.
Not once did she defend herself.
Not once did she explain.
She only looked tired.
As if she already expected the world to misunderstand her again.
Back in the present, months passed quickly.
Vael became stronger frighteningly fast.
Nyra trained him personally.
At first he was weak.
Clumsy.
Too soft.
But he learned quickly.
Too quickly.
One evening inside an abandoned training building, Nyra attacked him without warning.
Vael barely dodged in time.
The wall behind him cracked instantly.
“You’re slow,” Nyra said lazily.
Vael wiped sweat from his chin before grinning.
“You’re scary, boss.”
“You noticed now kid?”
Nyra disappeared from sight suddenly.
Vael’s eyes widened.
A blade stopped near his neck.
“You’re dead.”
Vael laughed softly.
“Again?”
Then suddenly....
He twisted around, grabbed her wrist, and pushed her lightly against the wall.
For one second, Nyra froze.
Vael held the practice blade near her throat carefully.
“I won this round, boss~.”
Silence.
Then Nyra smirked.
“Yeah right. You won.”
Vael smiled proudly.
(Pretty.)
Nyra noticed his stare immediately.
“You’re staring again.”
“Can’t help it.”
Nyra clicked her tongue and walked away.
But she did not look annoyed this time.
Months changed Vael too.
When they first met, he barely reached her shoulders.
Now...
He stood taller than her.
Broad shoulders. Sharp jawline. Dark eyes hidden behind an innocent smile.
People started fearing him too.
Especially when he stood beside Nyra silently.
One night, alarms suddenly spread through the city again.
Police surrounded a small flower shop downtown.
The owner had died mysteriously.
And in the middle of the scene stood Nyra.
The officers looked nervous but nobody dared approach her.
Kael arrived moments later.
The moment he saw the scene, he immediately grabbed Nyra’s shoulder.
“What are you doing?”
His voice sounded angrier than usual.
“Have you lost your mind?”
At that exact second
Another hand suddenly gripped Kael’s wrist tightly.
Kael looked up slowly.
Vael stood behind him.
Much taller now.
His innocent expression remained the same.
But his eyes looked darker.
“Doctor,” Vael said quietly, “don’t touch my boss like that.”
Kael immediately understood.
(So that’s it.)
Jealousy.
Kael pulled his hand away sharply.
“Move.”
His voice became colder.
“Before you appeared, I was already beside her.”
Vael smiled softly.
“And?”
The atmosphere instantly became heavy.
Even the police stepped back nervously.
Nyra sighed in annoyance.
“Assistant.”
Vael looked at her immediately.
“Go wait for me.”
His expression softened again.
“…Okay, boss.”
Kael watched him leave silently.
(He listens too well.)
After the officers removed the body and the area became quieter, Kael looked back at Nyra.
“Why did you kill her?”
Nyra stayed silent.
Kael frowned harder.
“She was just a flower shop owner.”
Nyra laughed softly.
“Exactly.”
Before Kael could react, Nyra grabbed his wrist.
A sharp flash crossed the air.
The city disappeared instantly.
They reappeared on an empty rooftop terrace above Novacron.
Cold wind moved through Nyra’s black coat while city lights reflected in her eyes.
Kael stared at her seriously.
“You need to control yourself.”
Nyra leaned against the railing.
“You think I killed her randomly?”
Kael stayed silent.
Nyra’s expression slowly darkened.
“That woman ruined children’s lives for years.”
Kael frowned slightly.
“She hurt them in ways nobody noticed.”
Her voice became colder.
“She looked kind outside.”
Nyra laughed bitterly.
“She sold flowers during the day.”
Then her eyes darkened completely.
“And destroyed innocent lives at night.”
Kael froze slightly.
For once
Nyra looked genuinely angry instead of cruel.
“She targeted vulnerable kids because she knew nobody would suspect her.”
Silence filled the rooftop.
The rain slowly started falling again.
Kael finally looked away.
“…I understand.”
Nyra stared at him quietly.
“But killing still isn’t the answer,” he added softly.
Nyra smirked faintly.
“You always say that.”
Then suddenly
She grabbed his hand again.
Another flash crossed the air.
This time they appeared inside Kael’s penthouse clinic.
And there
Vael already sat comfortably on the sofa waiting for them.
One leg crossed over the other.
The moment he saw Nyra still holding Kael’s wrist
His smile disappeared.
