It was a cool evening in Scothbury and with lots of mildew too. Eric Coleman was in his rain boots on the muddy grass, fulfilling his daily ritual of taking a soothing evening stroll.
He slid his hands into the pockets of his dark jeans and inhaled deeply; he loved the smell of wet grass.
His eyes searched the entire field until he spotted something in the distance. "I don't know that car." He hummed deeply under his breath with his hand sheltering his eyes as he stared.
It was a car but he couldn't recognise it. Scothbury was a small town and being the extra hand at his father's workshop, he knew literally every car owner in town.
Eric began to take long strides in the direction of the vehicle and froze solid on the spot once he spotted something- it was a girl.
"I don't know that girl." He hummed under his breath. She was a blonde ... about his age or a year younger. The only other blonde he knew was Macauley Rivers from his class and the girl was at least ten feet wide so it definitely couldn't have been her.
A man and a woman also followed the girl out of the car with boxes that looked like luggage. "They must be her parents." Eric remarked and slowly nodded to himself with eyes still locked onto the scenery.
Suddenly, blonde girl turned in his direction and saw him. He felt his heart revv for a short while but he managed to wave at her.
Waving- He'd thought he was, but his hands and amazingly, his entire body were stiff as a frost bitten rod.
The sun soon began to set and all that was left of blonde girl was her immobile silhouette, standing and supposedly staring at him, and then her golden locks that shimmered in the distant sun.
Eric gulped down the remaining bits of self awareness left in him and walked away.

Eric finished tidying up at his father's workshop and had an early breakfast. He wanted to go to bed early for a math test due the following morning.
But as he laid in bed, his mind was clouded with thoughts ... but not of the math test he had.
Blonde girl- it was of her. The words reiterated in his mind several times as images flashed in his mind.
He saw the baggage, the way her gold like hair shimmered in the sun, the way she awkwardly stood, staring at him, the way he had forgotten how to wave, the baggage.
The baggage!- Why did they have baggage? Eric asked himself. They must have been new in town and that was why he couldn't recognise the car ... or the girl and obviously why they had baggage!
The young man chuckled in innocent delight and suddenly sat upright on his bed.
If she's new, she'll be at school tomorrow, he concluded in his mind. "Yes!" Eric exclaimed.
"What's going on?" Mr Coleman swung his door open and popped his head in.
"Nothing, sir. Was just going to bed." The young man replied and settled in under the sheets.
His father shook his head from side to side with a slight shrug and shut the door.
