Part 1: The Beginning of Us---
Yuna said excitedly,
“Do you actually want to fall in love? You can try it with me first. Just as an experiment—to understand the sweet and bitter sides. These days, everything’s allowed. I’m taking responsibility as your friend.”
Nia frowned slightly and turned away.
“Love doesn’t happen through experiments. I must’ve been reading the wrong books all this time.”
Yuna rolled her eyes.
“Oh please, stop with your poetry. I was just suggesting something experimental. Of all people, I ended up with a philosopher as my roommate.”
Annoyed, she turned over on her bed.
Soft moonlight filled the room. Nia glanced at her phone—midnight. She had an assignment due tomorrow. She wanted to sleep early, but somehow, conversations with Yuna always stretched longer than planned.
Yuna talked. Nia listened.
And then Yuna got mad.
As always.
Taking off her glasses, Nia looked toward her.
“I didn’t mean it like that… Are you upset?”
No answer.
“For me, love feels different,” Nia continued softly. “It’s like breathing—something precious. Can something that valuable really be so easy? I think it needs both the eyes and the heart…”
“I did NOT ask for a lecture!” Yuna snapped. “Please, let me sleep.”
That was the end of it.
This was normal for them.
Yuna would start something. Nia would respond. Yuna would shut her down.
Still… Nia could never stay annoyed.
There was something about Yuna.
Once, a guy had grabbed Yuna’s hand too tightly in the rain. Her bracelet shattered, cutting her wrist. She cried so much she got a fever.
For three days, she barely ate.
Nia skipped her important classes to stay by her side.
Everyone at college was shocked.
“Where’s Nia? She never misses class.”
But Nia studied quietly beside Yuna, gently running her fingers through her hair. Yuna would fall asleep mid-lesson.
That was how they were.
Classmates. Roommates.
Something more… maybe.
Their living arrangement had started suddenly. One night, Yuna showed up with two suitcases and took over the room—rearranging everything, including Nia’s life.
“You don’t organize things properly,” she had said. “Let me fix it.”
Fixing meant claiming space in everything—her room, her belongings, her daily life.
And somehow… her heart.
Days passed like this—arguments at night, normal mornings.
But one morning changed everything.
Yuna woke up early.
Very early.
Wearing a maroon dress.
Half-asleep, Nia blinked at her.
“Where are you going?”
“Out.”
“Where?”
“No idea.”
“With who?”
“You.”
“What?!”
“I left a dress for you. Get ready—we’re going out after class.”
“I don’t even know how to wear that!”
“You’ll learn. Also… I have all Professor Sohana’s notes.”
That was enough.
After a chaotic morning, Yuna dressed Nia herself.
That day, after class, they wandered through the city—laughing, eating street food, riding through open roads.
Yuna looked radiant.
Without thinking, Nia whispered,
“You look beautiful… like a tulip. Don’t smile so much—people are staring.”
Yuna froze.
Something shifted.
Something unspoken.
Later that night, rain poured heavily. By the time they got home, the power was out.
In the darkness—
A candle lit up.
Yuna’s face glowed softly in its light.
And in that moment, Nia felt it.
Love.
Sudden. Deep. Uncontrollable.
Before she could stop herself—
She kissed Yuna.
Softly.
On the cheek.
Silence.
“I—I’m sorry…” Nia stammered.
Yuna looked down, her voice barely a whisper.
“I told you to try love with me… but not like this.”
“I’m really sorry… What do I do now?”
Before she could step away—
Yuna grabbed her hand.
“Maybe I brought this on myself… Nia… are you the monster?”
“I don’t know,” Nia whispered. “But from today… you’re not sleeping on that bed anymore.”
That night…
Everything changed.
Friendship turned into love.
Quiet. Deep. Unspoken.
And completely theirs.
