On the last day of my life as a cat, I waited quietly in a narrow alley.
It was my punishment.
I was never meant to be a creature of earth.
Once, I was a celestial being — a wanderer among the stars. But because of my mischievous deeds and careless pride, I was cast down… reborn as something small, fragile, and ordinary.
A cat.
And now, my time in this form was ending.
I left my home earlier that day. My owners loved me dearly, and that was exactly why I couldn’t stay. I didn’t want them to watch me fade away. I wanted my end to be quiet… somewhere no one would cry for me.
So I waited in that lonely alley.
The air was cold. The world was quiet.
Then she appeared.
A girl with short hair, walking softly through the street.
There was something about her — a gentle light I had never felt before.
She noticed me.
For a moment she just looked at me.
Normally humans walk past without a second glance. I expected the same… but this time I didn’t look away.
I stared back.
She slowly crouched down beside me.
Her hand reached out and gently patted my head. My fur was thick and fluffy, and her touch was warm — warmer than the sun I used to see from the heavens.
In all my centuries of existence… I had never felt something like that.
A simple kindness.
She smiled.
Then she stood up and walked away.
But the warmth she left behind stayed with me.
That night, beneath the quiet sky, as my life slowly slipped away, I made a wish for the first time in my eternal existence.
If the heavens would give me another chance…
I wanted to meet her again.
Not as a cat.
But as someone who could walk beside her.
