Chapter 1 – Just Friends? 💛
The morning sun 🌞 streamed through the classroom windows, catching on tiny dust motes that danced lazily in the air. Aarav sat by the window, notebook open but mostly ignored ✏️📒. Across the aisle, Meera was scribbling something furiously in her diary 📓, her hair falling softly over her face.
“Hey, Aarav!” she whispered, tapping his shoulder lightly. 👋 “Pass me that pen, will you?”
He handed it over, feeling a small jolt ⚡ as their fingers brushed. He quickly pulled his hand back, clearing his throat. “Here.”
Meera smiled, that radiant smile that made his chest flutter 💛. “Thanks!” she said, leaning back in her chair, eyes sparkling ✨. “You always make me feel like I’m bothering you.”
“You’re not,” Aarav said quietly, though his voice felt nervous 😳. He looked away, pretending to focus on his notebook, but his eyes kept flicking to her.
Class passed in a blur of lessons and half-hearted note-taking 📝. When the bell finally rang 🔔, the room erupted into chaos, but Aarav and Meera stayed together, weaving through the crowded hall.
“So, lunch?” Meera asked, swinging her bag over her shoulder 🎒. “Same spot as always?”
“Yeah,” Aarav replied. He tried to sound casual 😅, but his heart beat faster 💓 at the thought of sitting next to her again.
The lunch spot was under a tree 🌳 near the school gate, a quiet corner they had claimed as their own. Meera unpacked her sandwich 🥪 with exaggerated flair, glancing at him. “You know, you’ve gotten quiet lately 🤔. Something on your mind?”
Aarav froze, caught off guard. He wanted to tell her everything—the way his chest ached when she laughed 😆, the way he noticed the little things about her that no one else did—but he couldn’t. Not yet.
“Nothing,” he muttered. “Just… school stuff 📚.”
Meera tilted her head, studying him, as if she could see right through his carefully constructed calm 👀. Then she smiled softly 😊. “Okay. But I’ll find out eventually. You can’t hide from me, you know 😏.”
Aarav laughed quietly, though it sounded forced even to him 😅. The corners of his eyes softened as he watched her chew thoughtfully, the sunlight glinting in her hair ✨. Something about her felt different today—closer, warmer, almost… impossible to ignore ❤️.
As the bell rang again 🔔, signaling the end of lunch, Meera nudged him playfully 😄. “Race you to the classroom!”
He smiled, a genuine one this time 😌, and sprinted after her 🏃♂️💨, laughter spilling out between them. And for the first time, Aarav realized that maybe, just maybe, being her best friend wasn’t enough anymore 💛.
