It had been yet another long day for Kim Taehyung.
As he trudged along the narrow, rain-slicked lanes of his neighborhood in Seoul, his soaked shirt clinging to his skin, his heart was heavier than ever. Rejection letters filled his email inbox like a bad joke. Despite all his efforts, jobs continued to evade him. His English was poor, his degree didn’t shine on a résumé, and the world seemed to move past him while he stood still.
“Taehyung, how many times do I have to tell you to get serious about life?” his father, Kim Junho, had snapped earlier that morning. "Do you think life waits for someone like you? You’re already too late!”
Taehyung hadn’t replied. What could he say? Every friend he once hung out with was now settled: jobs, apartments, some even engagements. All he had were dreams and two loyal friends — Yoongi (Suga) and Hoseok (Hobi) — who tried to cheer him up when life felt unbearable.
One evening, the rain was drizzling like a soft melody when Taehyung saw him. A silhouette under the misty glow of the streetlight. Black umbrella in hand, a sharp jawline glistening with droplets. The man stood tall and composed, speaking swiftly into his phone, brows furrowed. That was the moment Taehyung’s breath hitched.
Love at first sight wasn’t something he’d believed in. Until Jungkook.
He didn’t even know the man’s name then. But fate had a strange way of working. A week later, Taehyung, against all odds, secured a job at Sung Industry, a rising software solutions firm. The job didn’t pay much, but it was something. And the twist? Jungkook worked there.
Jungkook was his supervisor — at least for a week of orientation.
But reality wasn’t as romantic as the rain-drenched night. Jungkook was hot-headed, blunt, and obsessed with perfection. He never smiled, never praised. Taehyung’s clumsy attempts to impress him only made things worse.
One disastrous day, while working on the software, Taehyung accidentally hit a wrong set of keys and triggered a major glitch. Files corrupted. Work lost. Panic erupted.
“Who trained him?” the boss roared.
Jungkook stepped forward with a tight jaw. "I did."
The boss's gaze turned cold. "Fix it. Or you’re out."
Taehyung watched Jungkook's tense posture and knew — he was responsible. Guilt gnawed at him. For two straight nights, he stayed back, studying manuals, seeking help online, doing everything in his power. And finally, he recovered the lost data.
Jungkook didn’t say thanks. But he gave him a look — one Taehyung couldn’t decipher. Half amazed, half… conflicted.
Weeks later, Taehyung got the opportunity to travel to Australia with Jungkook and two others. Under a sky scattered with stars, his heart overwhelmed him.
"Jungkook… I… I think I like you," Taehyung said, his voice trembling.
Jungkook’s gaze didn’t waver. “I come from an orthodox family. My marriage is next month. Don’t make things harder."
Taehyung smiled through the pain. “Right. Of course.”
Back in Seoul, his world collapsed.
His father noticed his withdrawal. One day, he stormed into Jungkook’s office.
“My son… he’s hurting. Please, consider him, just once.”
“What the hell—!” Jungkook’s voice rose. “This is my workplace. You can’t come here and—”
At that moment, Taehyung arrived, shocked to see his father.
Jungkook slapped Junho. Then, in his fury, turned and slapped Taehyung too.
The office froze.
Taehyung’s eyes blazed. He returned the slap. "Don’t you dare lay hands on my father."
The next morning, Junho died from a heart attack.
Taehyung collapsed.
He blamed himself. If he hadn’t confessed. If his father hadn’t come. If he had just kept quiet.
Suga came that evening.
"Come to Daegu with me, Tae. For my wedding."
Taehyung followed numbly.
In the countryside, time slowed. The fresh air, warm people… a balm. The Min family welcomed him. But fate had another twist — Jungkook was the groom.
They acted like strangers.
One day, Suga narrated the story.
“Grandpa wanted us married years ago. We left to chase our dreams. Now, he’s forcing it to make peace.”
Taehyung watched quietly.
Minji, Suga’s sister, was cheerful and sweet. Too sweet. She liked Taehyung. Called him cute. Followed him around.
Jungkook noticed.
Jealousy burned.
Spring Festival arrived.
Goons attacked. Taehyung defended the family.
Grandfather Seung, once rigid, said: "You’ve got guts. I like that."
That night, Jungkook found Taehyung near the well.
"I’m sorry. For everything. For your father. I was wrong."
Taehyung turned to him, eyes softer. “He died of a heart attack. Not your slap. I forgive you.”
Peace returned. Almost.
Minji insisted on shopping with Taehyung. Jungkook joined, unease prickling him.
At a rest stop, Minji kissed Taehyung's cheek.
Jungkook exploded. "Get out. Now."
He turned to Taehyung. “She’s just a kid. It’s getting out of hand."
Taehyung agreed.
He explained everything to Minji.
"It’s not love, Mina. You’ll find someone better."
Minji ran, slipped into a pond. Taehyung pulled her out, furious.
"You could’ve died. It’s a crush, not love. Don’t confuse the two."
Jungkook saw it all.
He cried that night.
The night before the wedding, he came.
"I love you, Taehyung. I’ve always loved you."
Taehyung looked at him with glassy eyes. “Then why now?”
“Because I was scared. Because I’m a coward. But not anymore.”
Taehyung pulled away.
“It’s too late.”
Jungkook hugged him tight. “Even if it’s late, I want to try.”
Unknown to them, Grandpa Seung had seen it all.
The next morning, Seung summoned Taehyung.
“You’ve brought disgrace. Leave. Now.”
Suga stood beside his grandfather. "Was this your plan all along? To steal him?"
“No!” Taehyung sobbed. “Please… just marry him and make him happy.”
He left.
The decorations were taken down. The house turned grim.
At the station, goons returned. Revenge.
Taehyung was beaten.
Hobi found him, bloodied. Took him to the hospital.
At the Min mansion, Hobi arrived mid-wedding.
“Taehyung’s hospitalized. Guess you don’t care. Not your friend anymore, right?”
Silence. Then chairs scraped.
One by one, everyone left.
Seung asked, “You’re not going?”
Jungkook: “I’ll never disobey you. But my heart… it’s with him.”
Seung saw the tears.
They drove together.
At the hospital, Taehyung woke.
Packing his bag. Ready to leave.
He opened the door. Everyone stood outside.
Suga stepped forward. “I was wrong. Can you forgive me?”
Taehyung cried.
Suga smiled. "Now go marry him, you idiot."
In a quiet village church, decorated in wildflowers, Taehyung and Jungkook exchanged vows.
With Suga, Hobi, and the entire Min family cheering.
From heartbreak to healing, love had finally found its way.
The end.
