In the midst of a small town, which was located at a breath taking place called PARO, there lived a women called Rinchen. She was 25 years old, a graduated person and has been a teacher of nuns in the remote places of Bhutan. In order to help her parents and siblings, she was running her family bar. It is hard for a women to run a bar but she was charm of the town that the uncle, boy or whoever that came to her bar, never ever once bullied her. Not only was she a charm but also a very funny and friendly women. Although she a graduated highschool with perfect marks, she chose to stay and run her family business and that lead to something life changing in her life.
"Hey Rinchen! Give me one pack of rockbee!!!. Uncle said cheerfully.
(Rockbee is a Bhutanese brand wine)
"Yess, wait for it" she answered cheerfully.
As she pour one pack of rockbee in the glass someone came in. It was Yenten. He and Rinchen was a very good friends as he was a regular at her bar.He was a civil servant with a high position. He used to be a married man with a beautiful girl but unfortunately he divorced with his wife. He was a heavy drinker and that's why he lost his position as electric manager and got divorced with his wife. He always drank at Rinchen's family bar. He might be a dunkard but people always perceive him as a genuine person. He was able to do anything but he couldn't keep his habit of drinking and after he was divorced, he began to drink even heavier which made Rinchen to worry so much. Bhutan restricted smoking and drugs but as alcoholic itself is a culture of our country, the rules for alcohol wasn't so strict.
"Here's your rockbee uncle!" She said as looked as Yenten.
Yenten just sat beside Rinchen casually and asked his regular drink " 11000". (11000 is a beer brand in Bhutan)
Rinchen would ignore him and let him do whatever he wants. Once she advised him about quitting alcohol which let them to a big quarrel. Yenten gazed at her and observe her closely. He open the can and it went "tssssssss". It went down his throat and he felt relieved.
"Refreshing" Yenten sighed. Rinchen rolled her eyes and ignored him.
" Untill when are you going to ignore me?" Yenten asked like a rich man.
"Untill I'm satisfied" she hissed.
It was that time when Rinchen was walking home alone at night , he helped her from getting chased by those big dogs. From that day, they became close but little did he knew that he was gonna fall in love with the women that runs his favorite bar shop.
Although he was in love with her, he had to remind himself that he was a divorced man. He neither want to ruin her life nor the friendship they had.
Everyday, when he had free time, he would come to the bar and sat beside Rinchen and made some lame jokes that would make Rinchen laugh so hard.
That time he would enjoy the view of her soft laugh and would pinch her cheeks. Years passed, it was Rinchen's 29th birthday.. everyone wished her and Yenten was late as usual to wish but the bestest among them. He bought her a beautiful kira that matched her beautiful pale skin color.
"Thankyou, Yenten!!" She hugged him. Yenten awkwardly patted on the back.
Although it was her birthday she was still working at the bar. Everyone that came to the bar wished her birthday and some sang birthday song for her. Yenten adored her from far away. He felt that she deserved the whole world but that was not something he could give it to her. There was a difference between them, he was like a broken rock that carried past with broken heart just like a weathered rocks and she was like a blooming flower cause she had the potential and freedom to make her own path. He didn't wanted to break that freedom of hers. And he thought that a man like him will never deserve such a woman.
'HEY HEY GUYS!" One of the man among the drinkers shouted. Everybody gave attention to him including Yenten.
" OUR BEAUTIFUL BAR LADY IS GOING TO COLLEGE THIS YEAR... LETS CELEBRATE HER ACHIEVEMENT!!!! CHEERS!!!" HE announced.
"CHEERS" everyone congratulated.Rinchen thanked everyone but out of nowhere Yenten walked out as soon as he heard that news.
It made Rinchen concerned. Even though she wanted to follow him, she couldn't because she had to look after the bar.
"SHIT! SHIT!" he muttered. " She is going to study and achieve her goals. Why am i being so angry??" He kicked the stone.
He couldn't face Rinchen because he was feeling guilty and went to another bar. He drank so much trying to surpass the sadness and the anger. He kept asking for more and it made the bar owner anxious. He banged on the table and demanded for more alcohol. It made the bar owner uneasy. The owner called the security to take him out. He was aggressively kicked out from the bar and was left alone in the lone roads of cold night. The brutal tears fell from his eyes. He didn't shed tears when he was divorced but now that Rinchen was leaving soon, it made his heart to fell into pieces that the tears couldn't stop falling from him.
Someone from back slapped him. It was Rinchen's best friend Phuntsho. "I've never seen a divorced man cry over a women, whom he just met in a bar." She chuckled.
" Insult me, however you want!" He sniffed.
She sighed. " If you love her, why don't you tell her."
He shook his head." Its not easy like you think. Look at me! I am just a feaking drunkard broken ass divorced man and she is precious woman just like flower that can shine alone in the crowd. I am no match for her" he cried.
" You know flower also going to die someday?." She added. Yenten's eye widened.
" Just like how a plot of flowers need nurturing, she also need that and I think you did that job well." She smiled.
" But how?" He asked.
" You always come to her bar, give company to her and make lame jokes that would only make her laugh but no one. When you would get late sometimes, she would be anxious and she always kept that seat beside her always booked for you. And I think that when she goes to college, she might miss you and your company. In my eyes, you guys were in love from the moment i saw you guys together." She admitted.
Yenten looked at Phuntsho. " Do you think i can make her happy?"
" You dumbass, you always made her happy " she burst.
Yenten smiled gently and stood up. He held Phuntsho up and they both laughed. She patted on Yenten's shoulder and walked away.
" Can you go alone?" Yenten was worried.
" Idiot,my house is nearby. You better go home too, you drunkard" she said.
He waved bye to her made he way to his house. He was strangling and couldn't walk straight.
" Hey drunk man, you better make a move faster, or else those fresh mans at college might take her!" Phuntsho shouted. Yenten waved back and muttered. " I will make her mine, you big dummy ".
Next morning, He woke up and remembered everything. First thing he did was go to that bar and apologized to the bar owner. The bar owner was kind enough to forgive him. He got himself cleaned, wore a nice clothes and went to Rinchen's bar. He saw Rinchen, playing with pen in her hand. He coughed to get her attention. Rinchen looked more angrier than usual. She pulled him inside and closed the bar door.
" Why would you leave, yesterday night?" I heard you got into problem with the bar owner on the opposite? Why are you doing like that. You know that you have responsibility,right?" Her mouth kept on moving. Yenten remained silent.
" You made me worry so much for you." Her voice broke.
" No, don't cry-... " You can't even quit that drinking habit of yours. How do you think you are going to live in the future with your new wife? Think about your daughter atleast!"She raged.
"You doing this kind of stuffs on my birthday is not okay" she admitted.
" Okay lets end our friendship!" Yenten announced.
" Don't joke with me Yenten!!
" Yes lets end this friendship and start a new relationship!"
Rinchen was surprised." New relationship? Are you proposing me?"." Yes, Rinchen. I am proposing to you. I know you might not like me cause i am a disgusting dunkard divorced man that has no value in marrying a beautiful, precious, gorgeous, generous girl like you. You are too good for me and my daughter. I dont care whether you love me not but i am never going to give up on getting you into my arms. If you can wait until i change myself and that time i will come to you and propose you in a very beautiful way that you deserves. I loved you from the beginning itself." He confess.
" Okay" she said simply. " If you dont do like the way you said right now then i am going to kick your ass infront of you daughter." She warned.
Yenten smiled and Rinchen ran in to hug Yenten. She felt amazing to be in his arm and he felt happy to have someone like her into his arm. Though they both were different from eachother, their hearts and minds were bind together just like how a knot is tied perfectly to never let get opened. Yenten with a bad background and Rinchen with dreams and a women with vast potential bounds together to help eachother through their ups and downs. They were match made and in heaven and everybody called them "bar girl and the dunkard man."
