I was sent to the past as an experiment to try and save the world from impending doom. I only needed to do one thing, and that is to kill a scientist starting a project with nuclear facilities, and nuclear weapons.
I did my mission, but upon investigating deeper in his residence, I found an infant. She was kept in a pod, with electronics hooked up to it. By the looks of it, it was her life support.
I didn’t regret what I did to her father, but I still pitied her. I went back to our facility in the future with plans and a picture of the girl.
My team wanted to see what’ll happen to her if we manage to keep her alive and raise her ourselves.
Many opposed the idea thinking it might be dangerous to the timeline, and may inflict more damage that what we intend on happening.
But after thinking it over, we decided we can raise her right if we tried. Everyone who agreed built a quarantine facility and insisted on keeping her in there for further experimentation, and will only be let out if her illness is cleared and handled.
Again, I went back and figured out a way to bring her back. It was, thankfully, successful.
When I got back, we started with the experiment and kept her isolated. She grew up healthy right in front of our very eyes.
Her disease was easily cured by our equipments, and her heart was replaced with the same power source the time machine used, we only did what was necessary to keep her alive.
Our relationship was amazingly smooth. She never knew about how she ended up in there, but she escaped. We only knew after it was too late, someone was feeding her information that was classified, and was about her father.
Agents here and there were being sent to different years trying to figure out what she could change with the technology inside her. The changes around us was very subtle but we notice, that those changes were only making life for everyone easier.
For example, time travel was more flexible and is accessible by everyone at the palm of their hands, without having major cahnges to the future. And tech was absolutely advanced that everyone relied on electronics less, because their bodies can do so much!
Even though she helped everyone in the world, it still had consequences. She never changed the time when I killed her father, but with the advancement that people achieved, some participated to travelling lightyears away to find another world suitable for humans, or to find something other living organisms.
And where we draw the line was something out of this world came and made contact with us, and even landed their ship here!
I had a guess on where I could find her and gave it my all. But while in the process, the time machine was destroyed on the outside and I was only left with the suit and only a one way trip back.
I woke up in the scientist’s mansion, and it was fixed, I woke up in a room where a suit beside the bed was prepared and a note “Wear it”. I heard people talking downstairs, there seems to be a party.
“Took you long enough, I’ve been waiting a lifetime.”, a woman in a simple gown welcomed me.
“Do-do I know you?”, I asked.
“You, did. But we met when I was younger. Come now, the party is already starting.”,
She doesn’t ring a bell, just who is she? Who-who am-
Focus, don’t loose yourself!
After that, she gave me a pocket watch, it doesn’t seem to be working. Other than that, she gave me a home for the meantime, she supported my work without even knowing what it was.
When I created a machine almost similar to the one we had, the only thing left was the power source. I didn’t know where I could possibly get a thing that can produce a large amount of power, I was stuck in the past... what can be good enough?
I looked all over town, nothing. When I returned to the manision, I saw her in my workshop. She was staring at it. I sat her down, tried to explain everything, and she understood.
“You’re leaving me already huh? I thought, this was the time where we you promised you’d return to me.”,
“No, I guess that isn’t now.”,
I was confused throughout the whole conversation, she stood up... she took ger top off and showed me the heart that we gave her back in the future.
“I guess, this’ll be goodbye again?”,
“I’m sorry, I promise I’ll come back.”,
“You already said that Mr. Scientist. And I know you will, just find me whenever.”,
I powered up the machine, she was just watching me. She started crying. Thank you for giving me a home.
The time I came back, everything was... normal. No aliens, but there was still traces of incredibly advanced tech.
I quit my job, and was ready to hit the road of time travel, I saved myself the trouble of making a time machine and just buying the handy, pocket sized gear one.
I started going on my own adventures, and everywhere I go... I could see her in one place waiting for me, which she would say we used to meet.
She would also explain, how she is basically lost in time, or how she can’t control where year she could go, and how we promised to meet wherever and whenever we can.
I was eventually getting old, but she stayed in her mid twenties for as long as I can remember.
In my deathbed, she took me to the future, where doctors she hired did everything they can to sustain my life.
And again, I woke up.... and this time, I was in her arms. She seemed a little old, she took off her heart... and looking at myself... she sacrificed her “immortality” for me.
And now I’m still looking for her, like she used to wait for me on certain locations and certain times. I could see her holding onto a pocket watch similar to mine.
“You gave me the same one.”, I told her.
“But... you gave this to me, and when you did you said I gave it to you.”,
I took out mine.
“See, I told you I have one.”,
“Huh, I guess the cycle stops.”,
That was all so confusing for me, does this mean we were giving each other the same pocket watch every time we meet?
This, might be the last time we have to find each other.
