Wan Mei was sleeping peacefully until she awoke with a jerk, at the sound of knocking. The sounds abruptly stopped. She sighed, assuming that she was hallucinating as usual, but then again she heard them.
Exapserated at who could arrive this late at night, she slammed the door open to face a handsome man.
His black eyes were staring intensely at her, his hair as black, while wearing a black jacket matching his features. His beauty was inhumane. For a second, her mind stopped working.
The man smiled and entered inside the room, as if it was his own. He seated himself leisurely on the couch, his chin rested on his hand. That was when Wan Mei realised a stranger entered her house.
"Get out." She said with folded arms. The man raised an eyebrow and grinned wider.
"I'll decide whether to exterminate the human race or not, depending on your performance." He said with a smirk. Wan Mei sighed and pointed at the door.
"Bro, Don't test my patience, I say. Get out, right now."
"You may not believe me but I'll prove it to you." He said and Wan Mei rolled her eyes, cursing at her luck. But suddenly, faint blue light enveloped the man and he started floating in the air, touched the ceiling and came down, back at the couch. Wan Mei was stupefied for a second and stiffles a scream. She stepped back, terrified of what she just witnessed.
"Now do you believe that I have the power to exterminate the human races?" He asked with a smirk, pleased to see Wan Mei scared.
"You, who are you?" She asked, mustering up courage.
"Me? I am Alendis, from the planet Y which is in the solar system next to yours." He said and then added. "An alien."
Hearing that, Wan Mei fainted, leaving behind a dumbfounded Alendis.
The Next Morning.
Wan Mei woke up to face her black ceiling. She sat up, relieved. Indeed, it was just a crazy hallucination yesterday night, she thought. But she almost yelped when a man appeared out of nowhere: Alendis.
"Hey! What's up?" He smiled and sat on the chair. "Glad to see that you're awake." Wan Mei eyed him cautiously.
"Why didn't you go back to your spaceship?" She asked.
"Oh, right. Yesterday, I forgot to tell you that I'll be living in your house for a while." He gave off the most innocent smile. Wan Mei's eyes almost bulged out of their sockets.
"Live in my house?!!! Bro, for hell's sake you've to be kidding me!" She yelled, but Alendis ignored her words, stood up and walked towards the door.
"Human, I hope you can make a wonderful breakfast." He chuckled and he turned back and headed off to the dining hall.
Wan Mei turned furious and punched her wall for a second out of anger, but instead, her fist cracked.
"AAH!"
...
Wan Mei cooked angrily. She couldn't believe that she had been reduced to a slave. Even her fist was hurting as hell. It all went wrong ever since Alendis entered her house. Suddenly, with a sly smile she added extra chilli in the food. Let's see how you'll eat this, bro, she thought.
"Here." She placed it in front of Alendis and smiled. "Breakfast."
Alendis felt something was strange. How could someone who had been angry with him till now, turn sweet? But when he ate his breakfast he realized. Although it was too spicy, the human had seemed to forget he was an alien.
Wan Mei was surprised that he could eat the food she prepared. She clenched her fork and glared at him.
"Your performance... is not good at all. Should I exterminate the human beings?" He pretended to ponder, waiting for Wan Mei's reaction.
"Exterminate then." She said nonchalantly.
"Are you sure? The people in your company, they'll die too." He smirked when she saw her complexion turn pale.
"Don't you dare!" She slammed the fork at the table.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but I dare to." He started playing with fork. "The decision is in your hands, Wan Mei."
"How do you know my name? I don't remember telling you." She raised an eyebrow. He smirked.
"I don't need to tell you. Ah, look at the time, it's eight already. Don't you think you are getting late for your work?"
That was when Wan Mei realised that she was late, and hurried off to change her clothes, came out and took the keys. She gave Alendis one hateful glare before slamming the door close. As she left, Alendis chuckled to himself.
"How feisty." He muttered.
...
It was 11 at night. Wan Mei stretched her arms as she walked back to her home. Indeed, the job of CEO was tough. She opened the door and closed it with a click. She removed her sandals and switched on the lights. As soon as she switched them on, a handsome man was spotted sitting on the couch. Wan Mei almost yelped.
"Why didn't you go to sleep?" She asked, making her tone as polite as possible. Afterall, she could watch the earth being destroyed, but she could not watch her people getting killed. Alendis had expected this 360 degree change.
"I sleep whenever I feel like. We, aliens don't have a fixed time, unlike you humans. I wonder why did you arrive so late? It's 11 o clock, not safe for weak humans like you." He deliberately provoked her. Wan Mei could feel veins popping on her forehead, but she clenched her fist, gritted her teeth and endured it.
"Work." She forced a smile.
"Do you usually arrive this late?" He asked.
"Yes." She replied. Alendis sighed and pointed towards the kitchen.
"I read the manual and made instant noodles. Have it, I bet you didn't have your dinner." He informed her. Wan Mei was stunned.
"Bro, I've got no times for jokes." She said.
"But I'm not kidding." He snapped his fingers and instantly, the instant noodles appeared on the table beside the couch. "Go ahead, eat it."
Wan Mei felt a warm tingle in her heart. She never knew the food cooked by someone else tasted this tasty, although the noodles were supposed to taste simple.
...
Weeks passed by, and Wan Mei realised that perhaps Alendis wasn't that much as a nusiance she assumed. He was rather a playful person who often likes to mess with her. Nevertheless, she became used to his company.
"Get up, it's 3pm already, bro." She said calmly, staring at the handsome man who was sleeping peacefully at the couch. After receiving no reaction, she decided to use her way. She smirked and brought a bucket filled with ice cold water and threw it on him. Alendis furrowed his eyebrows and slowly opened his eyes.
"Uh....What time is it?" He asked whole rubbing his forehead.
"3pm already." She responded with folded arms. Over the days, they became casual, like good friends. Alendis no longer threatened her with the extermination thing.
"Day off?" He asked her, rubbing his forehead. A faint blue light shimmered, and his clothes, hair, everything was dry.
"Yeah. Bro, I've got something." She said while searching the pockets of her jeans and removed tickets from them. "Look at this! Concert tickets of Blackpink's live performance! They're coming to China! Can you believe it?!" She squealed with excitement and jumped around.
Alendis smiled. Although the word bro irritated him, he's fine with it as long as she likes it. Nobody would be able to believe that she was the girl who mixed chilli in his food and gave him hateful glares just weeks ago.
"So, you've got to come with me! Get ready fast!" She said and closed his door. He chuckled.
...
During the concert.
It was too crowded so both Wan Mei and Alendis had to hold hands. Wan Mei was happy. Because for the first time there was someone she could hold to, talk about things she wants and take him to different places. Meanwhile, Alendis earlobes were slightly red.
"What is this Blackpink, btw?" Alendis asked.
"It's a k-pop music band. Now I wonder do you aliens even listen to music." She said.
"We don't." He responded.
"What boring life you have, bro." She shakes her head. Her eyes suddenly lit up at the arrival of three girls and she points at the third one.
"Look, it's Jennie! I'm seeing her!!! Jennie!" She squealed and Alendis sighed. Suddenly, somebody pushed Wan Mei nd she ended up falling. He helped her get up but the sight of blood flowing out just a few inches below the neck shocked him.
"What....?" Wan Mei looked stupefied. "Blood...? How?" Her hands which were trembling touched the wound and turned bloody. People around them started screaming and the music abruptly paused. Alendis looked around helplessly. He didn't know what to do. Afterall, he was not a human.
"Call the ambulance!" Somebody suggested, but unfortunately, Alendis didn't know what ambulance even was. There was someone kind enough in the crowd to dial the ambulance for them.
When they reached the hospital, Wan Mei was sent to the ICU since she lost too much blood. Meanwhile, Alendis sat in the waiting area, his whole body trembling itself. Funny, he was a courageous alien, not scared of anything. Yet for the first time in his life he was afraid. Afraid to lose her.
He knew that he shouldn't love her, but he couldn't help it. Feelings were always out of his control.
A nurse came to him and informed him that there she has chances of waking up. He was overjoyed. He waited for several days, but the human did not open eyes.
...
Alendis, as usual was about to check Wan Mei in the morning when the sight of her sitting and looking out of the window came into his sighted. Overjoyed, he run towards her and hugged her.
"You're finally awake!" He said and rubbed off the tears from his eyes.
"Woah, bro, are you crying?" Wan Mei, asked, astonished.
"Just... tears of happiness." He smiled.
...
Two weeks later, Wan Mei was recovered to the point she was discharged from the hospital. When they returned home, Alendis said to her that he had a prepared something for her.
"Why?" Wan Mei asked.
"For heaven's sake, you just got discharged. There has to be some celebration." He said as he seized her hand. "Let's go and see something I prepared." From the corner of his eye he saw Wan Mei blushing and his grin widened.
"Woah..." Wan Mei said, looking at the telescope. "This is damn amazing! I love it!" She said and hugged him. He smiled and pointed at the telescope.
"From this, let's explore the universe."
"Look at it, that's moon. That's Mars. Oh, that one is Venus." Wan Mei kept telling him about the planets. At last, tired, both of them sat down on the ground and looked up at the starry night sky.
"It's beautiful..." Wan Mei muttered.
"You think so? But I'm tired of seeing this scenery everyday." Alendis provoked her. Wan Mei turned to glare at him.
"Bro, don't destroy the mood." She said and Alendis giggled. She smiled at seeing his smiling face. They kept on discussing about the universe and human beings.
"Hey, Wan Mei, I've got something to tell." Alendis said between the discussion and Wan Mei nodded her head.
"I... love you." He confessed with flushed cheeks. Wan Mei was utterly shocked. She didn't know what to say. Her heart wanted to accept him but... she was afraid.
"But I don't." Wan Mei looked away. Alendis cipes her face and made her look straight in his eyes.
"No, you do. What are you afraid of? Why don't you ever listen to your heart?" He asked her.
"I... what if I love you? Don't you have to return to your planet one day?" She asked him and he smiled as he hugged her.
"Silly girl, no need to be afraid of that. There will be a way. I'll find it." He assured her.
Hearing his reassuring words, Wan Mei could no longer keep it to herself.
"I love you too..."
But what I'm afraid of is that you're just one of my hallucinations..., she thought
Under the starry night, two people kissed.
...
As they started dating, Wan Mei realised that work wasn't everything. So, she decided to make time for Alendis as much as possible.
They had movie dates, in which Alendis was astonished and wondered how humans killed each other under the curtains. (He assumed this because he didn't know about the television.)
Some restaurant date, in which Wan Mei devoured many dishes, and Alendis would wipe away the crumbs from her face.
At home, they would snuggle in each other's arms as they fell asleep.
Wan Mei started to love her life more and more.
One day Alendis came up to her and informed something heart breaking.
"Wan Mei... I'll be returning to my planet..." He said. "But don't worry, I'm there just to let everyone know I'll be leaving the planet. Wait for me, I'll be back soon."
Wan Mei quietly nodded her head with tears in her eyes and Alendis wiped them. "I'll wait for you...." She whispered.
...
A year had passed, and Alendis never returned. Wan Mei who was anxious started to distract herself with work. Every single day she would wake up, and look around the house for him. In the end, she was still alone. The possibility that he was just one of her hallucinations started to turn into reality. After all, Wan Mei had hallucinations ever since young.
An exhuasting day ended with her returning home at 12 am. As she closed the door, somebody hugged her from behind.
"I am back." He whispered to her. She recognised that voice too well. Unknowingly, tears started flowing out of her eyes. She freed herself from his embrace and hits his chest hard.
"You... said you would be back soon... I thought you fell for someone else... You bastard..." In the end, she hugged him and cried hard. "I missed you... I missed you so much... I thought you were only a hallucination..."
...
Alendis held her tight and explained his situation. It turned out that his planet was ruled by the emperor, and the emperor decided to test her by making her wait for a year. He wanted to see whether she would forget Alendis or not. After all, an alien and a human getting together is not a simple matter.
Also, Alendis's powers had been taken away, and now he was just a normal human like any other. But there was one fatal flaw....
Alendis's life span had been shortened by 3/4. Most of the humans live upto hundred, so he cannot live more than twenty five years. And right now he was currently twenty three.
"It's fine... I'll follow you even after death." She kissed his forehead and smiled.
They decided to spend the rest of two years of their lives together every moment. He became Wan Mei's new secratary. During these two years, they got to know each other better. They were almost inseparable.
...
2 years later.
At an eclipse night, Alendis lay weak on the bed, his breathing weak. Wan Mei swallowed a pill: a poison that could painlessly kill her and lay down beside him. Alendis smiled weakly when he saw her and they laced their hands together.
"Let's die together...." Wan Mei said, her voice shaky and weak. The poison was acting up. Alendis nodded and said, "Let's meet again...in the next life..wait for me..."
Before his death, he remembered a grump girl in her night suit opening the window, her deep black eyes glaring at her. She suddenly paused, as if in awe and her mind was blank.
Before her death, Wan Mei remembered a man entering her house as he pleased, resting his chin on his hand and smiling mysteriously.
"I'll wait for you..." She whispered. The bodies turned cold, their hands tightly intertwined.
