I was lying in my bed, listening to some music when my phone rang next to me. I sat up and groaned. Who in the world could be calling me?
I answered my phone.
“Hello?"
"Hi Lexi! How's it going?"
I groaned even louder. Of course it had to be May, my best friend. She's the only person who could call a loner like me.
"Hey, don't groan at me!" she said ,“I have something fun planned for us"
"I had something fun planned too", I said ,“Its called sleeping and you're in my way"
"Oh come on, Alexa", May pleaded ,“I promise you, you won't regret this"
I sighed ,“Alright, what is it?"
"We're going on a double date" she said.
That caught my attention. I may have been a loner but May knew about my dreams to one day find love.
"I'm listening..."
"I found someone who's totally your type", said May excitedly.
"May, I don't have a time"
"Exactly!" she said ,“Look, he's hot and doesn't seem like a bad guy, okay?Give him a shot"
"Fine", I said ,“When and where?"
"Today, at the club near your place actually", she said ,“Meet you there in thirty minutes?"
"Sure"
(30 minutes later)
Why was I doing this?
I was walking down the street, about to get to the club. I was starting to think this was a bad idea. When it came to love, my luck was worse than horrible. I was probably just being naive, agreeing to all this.
As I was lost in my thoughts, I bumped into someone by the entrance of the club.
"Oh", I said ,“I am so sorry. I wasn't-”
I caught my breath. The man in front of me was gorgeous! And not just supermodel gorgeous, he had looks that seemed to be...out of this world.
From his crystal-like eyes, to the sharp features of his face and his smooth black hair.
"I apologize for that", he said.
"No no, it was my fault for not looking where I was going"
"Ah, I see", he nodded.
For a brief moment, I thought about whether I should try to ask for his number. An encounter like this only happened once in a lifetime after all.
"Umm", I said ,“Could yo-?”
"Lexi!" May came out of nowhere and gave me a hug. Why did she always have the worst timing?!
She looked at the guy I'd bumped into and smiled.
"Oh, I see you've already met your date"
"What?" I thought I misheard her.
"You heard me", said May and she patted his shoulder ,“This is your date"
"You must be Alexa, then", the guy held out his hand ,“My name's Adam"
"Umm, yeah, hi", I shook his hand. I couldn't think straight right now. What were the chances that May had actually managed to find me a decent date?
"Well, let's go in", said May ,“My date's already inside"
May went ahead of us. She spotted her date, a blond guy in denim, on other side of the room and left me with Adam. I felt so awkward!
"Do you want to get a table?" Adam asked.
"I thought we were going to sit with May"
"Would you prefer that?" he looked at them, already flirting.
"Actually", I said ,“I think you're right, let's get our own table"
We grabbed a table at the back of the club and ordered our food. I ordered a sandwich and Adam just asked for some water. The waitress gave him an odd look before she left. We sat in silence as we waited for the food.
"So...", I couldn't think of what to say ,“What do you do for a living?"
"I destroy things that are unnecessary", Adam answered.
"Like Demolition and stuff? I guess that's cool" I said ,“Is it any fun?"
Adam shrugged ,“I just do my job. Nothing more, nothing less"
I guess he didn't have an opinion about his job. I couldn't imagine doing his job every single day. I wasn't really good with loud, crowded places.
"How about you?"
"Me?" I said in surprise ,“I'm just a single, regular and antisocial shut-in"
"I don't think there's anything regular about antisocial people, but okay", he smiled a little ,“Why?"
"Why what?"
"Why are you antisocial?" Adam asked ,“There's lots of people on this planet. Why not discover?"
"Because", I sighed ,“People are complicated and weird. You can think you know someone and they could stab you in the back the moment they get the chance"
"I've noticed that too", Adam nodded in agreement ,“Then why did agree to go on this date?"
"Cause as much as I know how bad people are", I said ,“There are few good people out there who give me hope for a better world one day"
"You really believe that?" Adam leaned forward ,“Even if it were just one good person?"
I nodded.
"Interesting", said Adam, smiling at me ,“You're one interesting human, Alexa"
(After the date)
"You really don't have to walk me home, you know"
"I know", said Adam ,“But I wanted to"
“Oh", I gave him a sly smile ,“Have you perhaps fallen for me, Adam?"
"Would you like to find out?" he asked me with a smile of his own.
I blushed. I hadn't expected him to tease me back! He didn't seem like the type but I guess he was full of surprises.
We got to my apartment building and went up to my apartment, right outside my door. I turned and faced Adam.
"Well, I had fun today"
"So did I", said Adam.
"I'm glad you had fun", I said. I was inwardly debating whether I should ask if he wanted to go out again.
"Well, I should probably go", he said, with what sounded like... reluctance?
"Okay, then", I said, a little disappointed as I opened my door and went in ,“Bye"
I closed the door and waited until I heard his footsteps fade away. I sighed tiredly. I was all alone again. That was the best date I'd had in ages and I hadn't even gotten the guy's number!
As I was regretting my life choices, I went to my room and was shocked to find Adam seated on my bed!
"How-?" I wanted to ask, but the words wouldn't leave my mouth.
Adam stood up ,“I've made my decision and I choose you"
"What are you talking about-?" I stopped.
Tiny horns sprouted from his hair and his eyes glowed bright purple. In an instant, he was right in front of me, his face inches away from mine.
"I'm not from this world, Alexa", said Adam ,“I've chosen to live here because I like you. I will determine whether I should exterminate human beings according to your performance"
