I awoke a confusing power...
I could see a number over everyone's head.
It was so weird!
The number differed. And it changed at every moment.
What did it mean?
Their deposit? The lies they had told? The days they left? Or...
...
"Babe..."
I snap out of my thoughts upon hearing my boyfriend's worried voice.
"Are you alright? Does it still hurt?"
Lev, my boyfriend, checks the bandage around my head carefully. He looks so worried and still unhappy with the car accident I had before.
Fortunately, I wasn't injured badly but...
Those numbers...
"Babe..."
I look at him and shake my head with a smile. I give him a light kiss on his lips which made him look away shyly.
"Lev, I'm okay."
I laugh as I ruffle his soft brown hair.
We've been together for six years. We're supposed to get engaged last month if only the accident didn't happen.
"Lev...about the accident. Is the police~~"
"Ssshhh..."
He places his index finger on top of my lips.
"There's no need to worry. You've suffered already. You've been hospitalized for a month. I don't want you to stress yourself. It will only cause harm to your health."
My heart beats fast upon hearing his sweet words. I smile happily and wrap my arms around him.
Few days have passed...
The mysterious numbers over head are still there...
When I woke up that day the numbers over the head of the patients I encounter are zero while the doctors and nurses have at least one to five.
The police officers, whom I met last week for investigation, have at least three to ten. New officers got zero.
What does it mean? I still don't understand.
Then, the news about the accident flashes on t.v.
They are gone.
The culprits... They are already dead.
All of them were found dead at the exact same place where the accident happened.
Offenders REALLY return to the crime scene for the purpose of reliving the sensation they felt there.
Sadly for them, they won't be able to reminisce it anymore. They are already on their way to hell. The five of them. All of them will rot in hell.
I laugh quietly when I find out that they died by hit-and-run. What a coincidence! That's what they did to me afterall!
As the days pass by, I start to get used to those numbers.
My neighbors... Zero.
My co-workers... Zero.
My family and friends... Zero.
My boyfriend...
Huh? 36?
It makes me wonder. How does his number increase without any valid reason?
13...16...18...21...25...28...29...31...36...
I went home and saw Lev sleeping peacefully on the sofa. I walk closely to him.
"Lev?"
No response. He's really in deep sleep.
I giggle and crawl on top of him. I corner him in between my arms as I lean giving him a kiss.
Still sleeping, huh?
I bite his lower lip and suck it which made him moan a little.
My boyfriend opens his eyes slowly. He holds me firmly and turns me around so that he's the one on top.
"Babe... Don't tease me..."
Lev whispered as he looks down at me.
"If you do that again...I don't think I can still control myself."
I laugh. I am about to say something when I notice that his number increased again.
"39..."
"Hmn? Babe?"
I gasp and look at him in the eyes.
"Babe? What 39?"
I hesitate to tell him about my useless ability.
He moves closely until I can feel his warm breath against my lips.
"Babe..."
"I don't think you'll believe me."
I pout as I look at him childishly.
"Of course, I will."
Upon hearing that, I decided to tell him everything.
"And the number over my head right now is....39?"
I nod.
Lev remain silent as if counting something inside his head. Then, he smiles sweetly.
"I believe in you."
Huh? Who would believe such nonsense easily?
"Babe...Lev... I notice that your number keeps increasing. Do you have any idea as to why it happens? Something like it's affected by what you usually do?"
Lev gives me a kiss.
"Secret. I will tell you when the right time comes..."
I groan at his remark telling him that I think it's the number of girls he flirted with. I hate him!
He just laughs at me.
Days turn to weeks...
Weeks turn to months...
Months turn to a year...
39...60...156...780...
I am getting worried with his numbers. It increased greatly in just a year while the others are still in zero.
One night...
"Babe... I already lose count of my number. Can you look and tell me the number over my head?"
I look at him in confusion and answer slowly, "830..."
"REALLY?!!!"
Lev jumps towards me and kisses my cheeks repeatedly.
"Babe... Let's go for a date tomorrow!"
"Tomorrow?! Why..."
"About the number... I will tell you what it means so promise me, okay?"
Surprised by what he said, I kiss his forehead, "Alright. Promise."
Tomorrow night...
"Babe..."
Lev kisses my left cheek and helps me to sit like a gentleman."
"You're like a gentleman tonight."
I laugh. "I am not used to it."
My boyfriend kisses me on the forehead.
"It's a very special night."
He kneels on the ground and reveals a ring on his hand. "Will you marry me?"
"Lev???"
I try to stop myself from crying.
"Of course! I do! I do!"
"Look at the numbers over my head."
Huh... the numbers?
"831..."
He smiles and inserts the ring on my finger.
"Babe... It means I LOVE YOU...
8 letters... 3 words... 1 sentence... I love you."
My tears start to fall.
He's a blessing. I am very thankful that God gave him to me.
"I love you, too, Lev."
