Imagine you are an astronaut and In the journey of space there are many important belongings that you would need to survive in space. In that case, if you need to choose three items to live on the Nasa expedition for six months! what would you choose?
I guess you would choose a spacesuit with food and water, and most importantly oxygen. You would choose these things because spacesuit protects astronauts from those extreme temperatures, we can only live for a few days without food and water and our body starts to get permanent brain damage after only 4 minutes without oxygen, and death can occur as soon as 4 to 6 minutes later.
If you want to know why would you choose food and water in space you need to know about food and water. water is more important than food because the human body can last weeks without food, but only days without water. The human body is made up of 50 to 75 percent f water. Every one of your cells, organs and tissues use water to help with temperature regulation, keeping hydrated and maintaining bodily functions. Besides, water acts as a lubricant and cushions your joints. Drinking water is great for your overall health. Water helps you to break down your food, but it also helps your body to absorb the important nutrients, vitamins, and minerals in what you've eaten. In space, the limit of water an astronaut can use is only about three gallons (11 litres) per day.
Food provides energy to grow, movement, to build and repair muscles and body organs and tissues, like skin, hair and nails. There is no food in space.
Spacesuits are one of the most important things in space, it supply oxygen to breathe while you are in the vacuum of space. It contains water to drink during spacewalks. It also protects you from being injured from the impacts of small bits of space dust. If you don’t wear a spacesuit in space, you would become unconscious within 15 seconds because there's no oxygen. Your blood and body fluids would boil and then freeze because there is little or no air pressure. Your tissues (skin, heart, other internal organs) would expand because of the boiling fluids.
If astronauts go into space without oxygen, they might even die. So, they need to carry oxygen to space. Without oxygen, the vacuum of space will pull the air from your body. So if there's air left in your lungs, they will rupture. Oxygen in the rest of your body will also expand. You'll balloon up to twice your normal size, but you won't explode
