3705 Whisper Way
9:00 pm
She was terrified, so terrified that she couldn’t move. Petrified. Her parents promised her they would be back the latest by 8:30. They are half an hour late already! They wouldn’t pick up her calls no matter how many times she tried. She has already played the scene in her head a hundred times, the scene of her dialling 911, telling them her name, telling them her address, telling them that her parents have disappeared…
9:30 pm
She has stayed in the same position, cuddled up on the couch in the living room staring at the blank television screen, for an hour now. She has already made up her mind to call the police, but the problem was that she couldn’t make herself stand up and go to her phone upstairs, leaving her safe zone. It was too dark everywhere else in her house, and she was all alone, the only things keeping her company being the psithurism of the big birch tree outside of her house, the tick-tock of the clock on the wall behind her, and the soft wailing sound of a baby coming from a basement… Wait. A baby wailing?! In the basement?! That was more than enough to send her leaping off the couch, flying up the stairs, and racing into her room, slamming the door shut behind her.
Inside her room she called her mom, desperately hoping that she would pick up this time. Just as if God himself heard her wish, this time her mom finally picked up the call! She quickly told her what happened, but sadly all she got in response was that they would be home in about an hour, and that she should not go into the basement at all cost.
10:00 pm
It was impossible not to do so. As soon as she hung up, a mysterious force suddenly started pulling her, pulling her toward the basement. Gladly she has been able to pull away from the force and was now back in her room safe and sound, but she did go a few steps down the basement’s stairs, and she vaguely saw something. Strangely, she couldn’t recall what it was or what it looked like, but she only remembered that it was something extremely hideous, something she would rather never recall.
10:30 pm
Waiting and doing nothing made her increasingly uncomfortable, so she decided to read some news to distract herself. A new species of dinosaurs discovered, the robbery of a bank, none of those interested her. What suddenly caught her attention was a news article about a car crash that just happened in the town she was living in. There was a man and a woman on the car, and they suddenly drove into a tree on the side of the road. They were found at 9:30 pm, and sadly because the air bags we malfunctioning, they were both already dead.
She gasped as she saw a picture of the victims, and at the same time two figures, a man and a woman, floated in through the window. Mom?! Dad?! There was no mistaking the huge light blue rain jacket her mom was wearing when she left and their bright pink car that stood out everywhere it went. When she turned around and saw the two translucent floating people, there was also no mistaking that her dear parents were dead… and they turned into ghosts!
“We told you to not go down the basement, but you disobeyed us! Now you must suffer the consequences!”
“W-wait, but, I,” she squeaked in a tiny voice. She realized that something was terribly wrong. She called her parents at 9:40, but their bodies were already found dead at 9:30! However, there was no time to think about anything. Those two monsters have already started floating towards her, and she quickly ran out of the room. She stumbled down the stairs and swerved towards the direction of the front door. However, the ghosts were faster than she expected and blocked the way. She was left with nowhere to go but the basement.
As she reached the stairs leading to the basement, she accidentally tripped, finally giving in and letting the darkness swallow her.
