...The buildings, the halls, and the dingy carpets in them were exactly the same as Jimin had left them about three months before. The halls were narrow but welcoming, and he couldn’t help but smile as he approached the door he knew was his. Most of the doors were open; there were parents left and right helping their kids settle into their dorm rooms. Jimin was a third year and his parents were no less attached to him than the parents he saw inside the other dorm rooms; sending them off minutes before had been a struggle, though he had convinced them to go without helping him unpack....
...His sneakers made a soft sound as they hit against the old hallway carpeting, his feet steering his body ever closer to his dorm room. Jimin recited his room number in his head like a broken record until he laid eyes on it and stopped in his tracks. The door was already open and a familiar figure was hunched over, its back facing the doorway. “Who said you could take this side of the room, hm?” Jimin leaned up against the doorframe and pushed his suitcases closer to the wall. The figure jolted up and spun around to face Jimin; a wide, boxy smile immediately appeared on his face and suddenly he was bolting forwards towards Jimin....
...“You’re here! Oh my god, you don’t know how glad I am to see you,” the figure enveloped Jimin in a constricted hug, his arms wrapped around Jimin’s neck. He was taller than Jimin by a couple inches and Jimin felt his breath get knocked out of him. He managed a chuckle and wrapped his arms around the other male, patting his back to let him know he needed to ease up a little....
...“I’m glad to see you too, Tae, but please let go of me,” Jimin choked out before the other male untangled his arms from around Jimin’s neck. The two separated themselves and Jimin gazed upon his gangly friend with affection. He had tanned over the summer, that was a definite. Jimin could probably say the same about himself, though he was used to seeing himself in the mirror; the two roommates hadn’t seen each other since the end of the last school year....
...Jimin grabbed a hold of his suitcases again and rolled them further into the room, dropping them off next to the bed that the taller male hadn’t already taken. “How was your summer, Taehyung? Anything good to report?” He shot a wink at the other, hoping to send the message he was thinking of in his head. He watched as Taehyung stopped unpacking his suitcase and turned around to glare a little at him, a light shade of pink showing up on his cheeks. Jimin laughed wholeheartedly at the reaction and waved the question away. He picked up the smaller of his suitcases and propped it on his bare mattress, unzipping it and taking out his bedsheets....
...Taehyung stayed facing Jimin, pausing his activities and placing both hands on his hips. “For your information,” he began, snarky tone extremely emphasized, “nothing regarding that happened over the summer, at least on the level you’re thinking. However, if you apologize for rejecting my hug after three months of not seeing you, I will tell you what did happen.” The taller male smiled cheekily down at Jimin, who had also paused in making his bed. A grin spread across Jimin’s face and his eyes turned up into dark crescent shapes....
...Jimin stepped over his suitcases and towards Taehyung, coming to a stop when he wrapped his arms around the taller male’s waist. “Taetae, I’m so sorry I pushed you away, please forgive me?” There was a drop of insincerity in his voice, though in all reality it went right over Taehyung’s head. Jimin, still hugging his waist, added a small, “If you didn’t make a lot of progress on this whole thing, though, I think I might punch something,” before letting go and heading back to his linens....
...Taehyung plopped himself down on his half-made bed and crossed his legs underneath him. “You’re forgiven. Not to get your hopes up, there isn’t a lot to tell, but there are definitely some points of interest you need to know about.” Taehyung regarded Jimin in a manner that screamed the latter give attention to him, and Jimin did just that. “First of all, we texted a lot, but kinda sporadically. It was pretty solid after break started, but towards the middle it dwindled a little. We sent each other snaps and all that kind of stuff pretty consistently, but legit texting became a little lax. It didn’t pick back up until a couple weeks ago, actually.”...
...“Wow, Taehyung’s basically got himself a boyfriend,” Jimin teased the other as he wrestled with his pillow and pillowcase. “Didja send him any nudes?” Taehyung glared menacingly at the other boy, a wide grin playing across Jimin’s face nonetheless; he couldn’t help but feel happy for his friend, despite his teasing. “Really though, are you still texting consistently? Like within the past few days?”...
...Taehyung opened his mouth to reply when his phone chimed. He reached into his shorts pocket and withdrew the device, looking at the screen before looking back at Jimin with an animated grin. “Well, yeah, speak of the devil,” he waved his phone in Jimin’s direction before bringing it back down to actually read the text. “He asks if he and Hoseok can come over; I guess they’ve finished unpacking or whatever. Is that cool with you?” His thumbs hovered over the keys as he waited for the nod that came from Jimin moments after. With a smile he replied to the text message, muttering a small, “Make sure I don’t pass out when I see him, okay?” Jimin chuckled and promised him he’d try his best before turning back to his pile of sheets....
...–––...
...As Jimin finished unpacking his clothes into his closet and dresser, a loud and too-familiar voice reverberated off of the walls: “Yo, guys! What’s new?” Jimin and Taehyung turned simultaneously to face the door, watching as Hoseok and his roommate strolled into their room. Taehyung was the first to react, as he stepped to meet Hoseok halfway and wrapped him in an excited hug. Jimin quickly embraced Hoseok’s roommate and firmly patted him on the back. The other male, taller than Jimin, smiled sweetly and the two exchanged small greetings....
...“Everything’s been good! What about you, hyung? Anything interesting happen over break?” Taehyung shook Hoseok a little by the shoulders and slapped him lightly on the back. “Don’t spare the gory details,” he sent a wink in Hoseok’s direction as he stepped over to the latter’s roommate to greet him as well. Taehyung approached the dark-haired male almost cautiously and with a sheepish smile, different from how he had greeted Hoseok....
...“Hey, hyung,” the dark-haired male smiled equally as sheepishly at Taehyung, going in for an awkward but friendly hug. He pulled away and resumed a more confident-looking posture, voice more solid as well, though it dropped to a whisper. “I missed you over break.” His rabbit-toothed smile shot shivers down Taehyung’s spine, and he swore that this was the best Move-In Day to date....
...Taehyung shot the dark-haired male a small grin and chuckled lightly, “I missed you too, Jungkook. You should have texted me more often if that was the case.” Jimin noticed the two from the corner of his eye as he and Hoseok talked briefly about their respective summer breaks; he couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight of Taehyung being so impossibly smitten by a second year....
...A figure appeared in the door and interrupted all conversations in progress. All four aimed their attention at the open door, eyes landing on a shock of light blue-green hair. The figure wore dark-rimmed, square glasses and a slightly forced smile. He was clad in a purple tee shirt with the phrase “Need any help? Ask me!” plastered on the front in a loud font, along with a pair of ripped up denim jeans and a clunky pair of sneakers. The four males stood frozen waiting for any sign of life from the colorful individual in the doorway....
...“Uh, hey there. Just so you all know, I’m this floor’s RA this year,” the figure spoke, grounding himself by holding onto the doorframe. His gaze was unwavering and his voice held a hint of uncertainty, “My name is Yoongi, just so you know. Do you guys need any help with anything?” He shoved his free hand into his front pocket and it was obvious that he was new to being an RA....
...Jimin was the first to speak up, showing off his winning smile, “No, we don’t need anything!” His eyes curved up into his usual dark crescents and he was sure he could see Yoongi develop a little more confidence in his own smile at the sight of his....
...“Okay, well if you come across any problems my room is just at the end of the hall,” Yoongi motioned towards the closer end of the hallway with his whole arm, as if he were directing a gaggle of campus tourists around for the first time....
...“Thanks, we’ll be sure to come knocking if anything comes up!” Jimin chirped happily and shot Yoongi a thumbs-up. The three others around him stifled their laughter until Yoongi shot one last half-uncertain smile at them and turned on his heel to leave the room. Hoseok laughed the loudest, his voice once again bouncing off the barren walls; Taehyung wasn’t far behind on the decibel scale, either, though it was much clearer to Jimin that he was mocking him for one reason or another....
...“Oh my god, Jimin, you should have seen the look on your face when he started talking,” Hoseok heaved out in between hearty laughs, coming over to slap Jimin on the back and proceeding to hang off of him like a sloth on a tree branch. “You looked so fucking whipped, oh my god. Like your knees were gonna give out if he kept talking,” Jimin scowled at the other and tried feebly to shove him off of his shoulders....
...“Fucking– I did not, hyung, I swear to god. I was just trying to be nice,” Jimin’s voice trailed off slowly; he was sure he wasn’t making much of a point with his words anyways....
...“Jimin, no. You totally were sending a different message, whether you like it or no–” Taehyung came up to Jimin and reached out to ruffle his hair when Jimin flinched and smacked his hand away....
...“Okay, yeah, whatever. It doesn’t matter,” Jimin snapped back at Taehyung, though there was a hint of a smile curling the sides of his lips as he tried hard to resist laughing along with the rest of them. “Anyways, who wants to go down to the lounge? I can text the rest of the guys and we can all meet up for a bit.”...
...Hoseok jabbed Taehyung in the side playfully and muttered, “ Maybe we should invite the RA, too, ” though Jimin heard every word; he rolled his eyes and could hear Jungkook giggling quietly from the sidelines....
...–––...
...The residents’ lounge had not changed since the end of last year; the only thing that could be argued to have changed would be the smell of it. The absence of student life on campus during the summer caused a musty smell to build up in the unused dorm halls; it wasn’t really the most welcoming of things to smell on the first day back, though Jimin could tell it was already dissipating due to the resurge of life in the building’s hallways. The couches and tables in the lounge were all in the same place, and Jimin led the others over to their usual spot in the far corner. Two other people were already there and rose to their feet when they saw the other four approaching....
...“Guys, long time no see!” The taller of the two people approached Hoseok first and brought him into a quick hug. His pink-tinted hair identified him, and Jimin ogled at the extreme change from the last time he saw the looming figure. The pink-haired man moved along the line of them, greeting each warmly. He stopped last at Jungkook and grabbed him by the shoulders fondly, “You excited to be starting your second year? God, you look like you could be a third year, though.” His full lips were curled into an adoring smile as he looked upon the younger, admiring how mature he had gotten over such a small amount of time....
...Jungkook rolled his eyes slightly and chuckled, bringing the other into a hug. “Good to see you too, Namjoon hyung.” He patted the older’s back and drew away, muttering a small, “You’re a fourth year, don’t remind me how fast time is going,” with an equally small smile to go along with it....
...The other three were greeting the last person; he was another fourth year like Namjoon and had a delicate visage, contrasting Namjoon’s more intense appearance. He greeted Jimin, Hoseok, and Taehyung like they were his children, littering them with inquiries about their summer and if they had eaten yet that day. “ Yeah, Seokjin hyung, we ate before we came back to campus, don’t worry ,” they all respond with a loving eye roll....
...The six of them convened in their usual corner, gathered together and piled up on couches. Chatter was constant; except for Namjoon and Seokjin, they all hadn’t seen each other for so long and there was plenty to discuss. They talked about Jimin’s time back home in Busan, and how he actually did not meet up with Taehyung at all, contrary to popular belief. He had spent a lot of time trying to improve his songwriting skills in between his dance team practice, and not a lot of time messing around with the taller brunet. They talked about Hoseok’s first experience directing a smaller-scale middle school drama production, and how he had decided afterwards that he wanted to stick to simply performing. Jungkook had gone to a summer-long fine arts camp, where he finally honed in on what he wanted to major in: music production. Taehyung had interned at a small veterinarian’s office in Daegu, and participated minimally in the production of a forty-minute play at the local community college. Overall, their summers were spent productively with minimal time for each other. There had been texting in group chats and individually from time to time, though for the most part their summers had been busy and jam-packed....
...The conversation was not complete, however, without Taehyung butting in and mentioning his and Jimin’s new RA. Having stayed in the same building all their college careers, the group was intrigued to hear more about the mysterious man. Namjoon and Seokjin, both RAs themselves, hadn’t yet been able to introduce themselves to the rest of the team for the year and they listened intently as Taehyung recalled his encounter from before. “He seemed pretty shy, if you ask me, but I think he’ll be pretty chill this year. He didn’t seem like the kind of guy to get on your *** about much, though I guess we’ll just have to see about that – right, Jimin ?” Taehyung beamed in Jimin’s direction and the latter shot daggers at him with his eyes. Of course Taehyung hadn’t spared his (as well as Hoseok and Jungkook’s) perception of Jimin’s first meeting with Yoongi; the fellow RAs were thoroughly amused with the younger’s reaction....
...“Fucking shut it, Kim Taehyung. I swear to god if you purposely try to get on his nerves, I will end you,” Jimin lurched at Taehyung, attempting to threaten him, though the taller was desensitized and merely chuckled at Jimin’s effort. “‘Cuz Lord knows I’m gonna be the one that gets blamed for it, like always .” His glare towards his roommate was strong; the group couldn’t help but laugh at the exchange and they all shook their heads at the pair. Taehyung had a record for causing trouble in the dorms – it was a wonder he had never been kicked out – and then disappearing when the RAs came around to find the culprit. Unluckily for Jimin, he was always the one to get blamed for the act initially; he usually got proved innocent later on. Taehyung made a point every year to see what kinds of crap he could pull on the RAs, and there was no doubt that this year wouldn’t be any different. Jimin just hoped that Yoongi would be smart enough to catch the right criminal, unlike all their past RAs....
...If anyone could manage to cause trouble in his first few days back on campus, it was Kim Taehyung. He was known as one of the biggest troublemakers in his year and he sure as hell wasn’t about to let that title go simply because he was one year older. It was a mystery to most students how he seemed to always get away with his stunts; the RAs never pushed any consequences on him. Most people don't really want to know how the Legend Kim Taehyung keeps his record clean – what’s a legend without a mystery backstory?...
...No one other than Jimin, Taehyung’s oh-so-tolerable roommate, knew how the legend kept face around campus. It was all because Jimin was the one to take the fall, nine times out of ten. It wasn’t because Jimin had ever participated in these activities; in fact he vehemently encouraged his roommate to not do these things. That being said, Taehyung always managed to find a way out of being caught himself and always left the cleanup for Jimin, much to the latter’s dismay....
...This year would be no different, of course....
...Taehyung was a big smoker – there was nothing wrong with that. Jimin didn’t like it all that much, but would occasionally join in with the other if he had been having a rather shit week. It helped calm his nerves and since there wasn’t any chance of long-term addiction, Jimin was cool with it. What he wasn’t cool with, though, was Taehyung smoking so much that the smell began to seep into every susceptible material in their room. If it had been cigarettes, it would have been possible to blame it on another set of boys in the hall; but no, it was weed and the distinct smell of it had started to become just another constant in their room....
...A couple people complained one night in particular about the smell. It was late, around one or two in the morning, and the persistent knocking on Yoongi’s door was the only thing that pushed him off of his bed and out of his late-night stupor. His feet shuffled across his almost-clean floor as he approached the door, rubbing the threat of sleep out of his eyes. He opened the door to see two equally unrested males standing with their arms crossed over their chests....
...Before Yoongi could ask if the two were okay, one of them spoke up, “Hyung, do you smell this? That idiot is stinking up the entire floor again. Please do something about it,” If it weren’t for the twinge of a whine in his voice, Yoongi would have sworn the male was going to have his head. He was minimally confused at the straight complaint; he blinked a couple times and pushed his fringe out of his eyes, thinking....
...He sighed in defeat; this was the third time someone on his floor had come to him with a complaint regarding room 309. Yoongi stiffened his back and straightened his posture, as if to throw on an air of authority. “Alright, fine, I’ll deal with them tomorrow morning. I’m sorry this keeps happening, but please let me know if it continues after I talk to them.” He couldn’t help but let his disappointment show on his features. It was too late at night for this kind of problem, and he was truthfully too inexperienced with troublemakers to truly know what to do. “Go back to your room, guys. Have a good rest of your night.”...
...Yoongi closed the door of his single room again, heaving out a sigh as he heard the latch lock into place. “Those shit kids don’t know how to behave themselves, Jesus Christ,” his body limply fell back onto his bed; one of his legs hung off the edge but he paid no mind to it. Sleep was too tempting. “They don’t know what’s coming for ‘em.”...
...–––...
...On regular Tuesday mornings, Jimin was able to sleep in until about noon until he had to start worrying about getting to his one thirty dance class. Taehyung was up and out of the room by eight thirty; he had a nine o’clock biology class that he completely regretted signing up for after going to the first class. Tuesdays were the days where Jimin could get a full night’s sleep and then some, if he was lucky. This Tuesday was not one of those days, though....
...Yoongi walked down the small expanse of hallway between his own single room and room 309. Truthfully, he hadn’t yet remembered the names of the kids who lived in the room, though the cheesy sign on the front of the door soon reminded him. He poised his hand in the air, preparing to knock. It was a little after nine in the morning and Yoongi was only up because he wasn’t able to get to sleep the night before – not after he mentally beat himself up over being a terrible RA. The feeling didn’t run deep, though the colorfully-haired male did feel a pang of remorse when he realized he was meeting his requirements as an RA only minimally. His knuckles rapped on the door, lightly at first; when he didn’t hear an answer he knocked again and called out, “Taehyung? Jimin? Anyone there?” The chances of two third years being home this early in the morning were high, Yoongi figured. As long as he was up, he may as well try to address the problem that kept him awake all night....
...When still no response was heard from the other side of the door, Yoongi took it upon himself to open the door a crack. It was unlocked, much to his surprise, and made a small creaking noise as it opened. He poked his head in between the door and the doorframe. One of the beds was empty and unkempt; he peered over to the other side of the room and saw that there was a lump still underneath the sheets. Yoongi’s eyes widened a little bit. He didn’t really want to disturb the student, though he also wanted to just get this over with....
...He opened the door completely and stepped into the room carefully. He closed the door behind him gently and padded his way over to the sleeping figure in the second twin bed. The figure had a head full of dyed, though fading, red hair; Yoongi immediately identified him as Jimin, or as he liked to better identify him, the Tame one. As he reached his hand out to shake the other boy’s shoulder, a small voice in the back of his head questioned whether waking up a sleeping university student was moral. He shoved the thought away and grabbed a hold of Jimin’s exposed shoulder. He shook it ever so lightly, begging a Higher Power for the other to wake up quickly. “Jimin, wake up,” he whispered, leaning into the other’s ear. “It’s Yoongi, the RA from down the hall.”...
...The redhead stirred underneath Yoongi’s hand, though light snores still floated up from his mouth. Yoongi really wished he was back in his own room right now attempting to get at least a few hours of sleep. He bit his bottom lip pensively and repeated his attempt at waking the sleeping boy. “Come on, Jimin. I know it’s early just please wake up–”...
...Jimin rolled over onto his back and Yoongi snapped his hand back in surprise. The redhead’s eyes fluttered open, squinting at the sudden intake of sunlight. His eyes landed on Yoongi’s uneasy visage and pure confusion sprung up on his own. “Y-Yoongi-ssi? What are… Why are you in my room? What time is it?” Question after question tumbled out of Jimin’s mouth in a slur as he sat up in bed and peered up at the RA....
...“Oh, um… I need to talk to you about something,” Yoongi muttered unconfidently. He rubbed at the back of his neck with one of his palms. “But you can wake up first– sorry for waking you, but it’s kinda important.”...
...Jimin rubbed the sleep from his eyes and picked up his phone from the bedside table, grumbling when he saw it was still before noon. Stretching his limbs out, he let out a loud sigh and straightened up in bed. He crossed his legs underneath of him and offered a spot on his bed for Yoongi to sit on; the other politely refused. “This won’t take long, don’t worry,” he reassured the redhead. He shoved his hands in the front pockets of his sweatpants, gathering his words together. “So… I need at least you to know that there were a couple of guys that complained to me last night about the smell of weed, and they made it very clear that it was coming from your room.” Yoongi watched as Jimin rolled his eyes and gripped tighter onto his phone; it seemed as though the piece of technology was grounding him and keeping him from punching something....
...“I swear to God it wasn’t me, Yoongi-ssi,” Jimin groaned and looked like he earnestly wanted to rip his hair out of his scalp. “At least not this time.”...
...“I’m not here to pin the blame on you, don’t worry. I know you have a roommate and trust me, I’ve heard the stories about him,” Yoongi chuckled a little at the thought of Taehyung’s legacies. The kid was only a third year and yet he had managed to be the buzz of campus already. “That being said, you guys do need to keep the smoking to a minimum, or at least a smaller frequency than now. I’m not gonna rat you out for doing it, but just know that if I have to come back here that means that I got in trouble too; got it, buddy?” Yoongi tried to flash a smile at Jimin, though he could tell the other was about to implode on himself – if not now, then later....
...Jimin heaved a sigh of annoyance. He was thankful that the RA hadn’t completely called his *** out on something he didn’t do, like so many RAs had done before. Yoongi seemed to be a lot more understanding than the others. “Thanks, Yoongi-ssi. I’ll let Taehyung know you said something,” His tone was calmer than Yoongi had expected. The redhead’s iron grip on his phone hadn’t let up the entire time, though Yoongi could at least tell now that his anger wasn’t directed at him. “I’m gonna fucking kill that kid, I swear to god.”...
...Yoongi chuckled and encouragingly patted Jimin on the shoulder. “Well I would advise against murder, but let me know if he gives you any trouble, okay? I’ll talk to him one-on-one if I have to,” Yoongi held up a fist in the air and sent a small wink in Jimin’s direction. “Sorry for waking you up again. I’ll leave you to your sleep,” Yoongi started back towards the door and could have sworn he heard a small “ Don’t worry about it ,” but he was already out the door....
...–––...
...It was now a little past ten, and Jimin was standing in front of Jungkook and Hoseok’s dorm room, knocking furiously on the door. He held his phone in his free hand, still with an iron grip. “Jeon Jungkook, I know you don’t have class ‘till eleven thirty, open this door!” He continued knocking on the door until he heard grumbles and muffled footsteps from the other side of it. His face was hot with anger and he was just about fed up with everything at the moment, though he really hoped he wouldn’t direct any of it at the other boys....
...The door opened to reveal a disheveled-looking Jungkook; his hair was a mess and his loose tank top hung off of one shoulder precariously. Jimin looked him over once and grunted a greeting; he shoved past the taller and walked straight into the room. Hoseok was laying on his bed, probably half-asleep, with one arm slung over his eyes to block out the sunlight. “Hoseok hyung, get up, you need to listen to this too,” Jimin grabbed a pillow off of Jungkook’s bed and threw it at Hoseok’s stomach, hitting the mark indefinitely. The older jerked up at the unexpected contact and grumbled in protest....
...“Hyung, what the hell is going on? Aren’t you usually asleep now?” Jungkook shut the door and quickly padded back over to his bed to sit on it before Jimin invaded even more of his space. “It’s only ten-something–”...
...“My RA came and woke me up, that’s why I’m awake so early,” Jimin unintentionally snapped at the younger boy. He immediately realized it and softened his tone before he continued. “He woke me up ‘cause some other kids on my floor complained to him last night about Tae’s… smoking habit .”...
...Hoseok perked up at this and sat up in bed, the sheets still clinging to his torso. “Yo, what? That little brat said he didn’t have any more left– I swear to God.”...
...“Hyung, not important. You can deal with your weed inequality later but just listen to my story,” Jimin held a hand up in Hoseok’s face as he stepped over and plopped down on the older’s bed. “As I was saying, my RA woke me up super fucking early and told me about the complaint – mind you, he kinda blamed me at first–”...
...“But Jimin, you smoke too, it’s not like he was making shit up–” Hoseok interrupted from beside him. He pulled his face into an extremely confused expression and leaned back on one arm to support himself....
...“Okay, yeah, but I definitely haven’t done that since like, the first night back.” Jimin could feel his cheeks getting hotter by the second; he played it off in his head as a result of his frustration and willed it to subside. “My point is , he’s like, getting on my *** because of Taehyung’s troublemaking and– I don’t know why I’m so annoyed by this. Like the guy actually turned out to be pretty understanding in the end but I think he’s still a little peeved at us– I mean, at Taehyung.” He trailed off his words and forgot where he was going with all of this pointless complaining. He had taken to playing with his fingers subconsciously, trying to crack the knuckles that just wouldn’t crack. He glanced between Hoseok and Jungkook; they both were looking at each other and exchanging Cheshire grins. “Oh my god, what now ?”...
...“Hyung’s got a crush!” Jungkook sing-songed and Jimin nearly flew off the bed as he raised a fist at the younger....
...“Oh, **** no! Jeon Jungkook, where did you get that idea from?!”...
...“Jimin, your cheeks are literally the color of a ripe tomato. Please reconsider punching the child,” Hoseok laughed from behind Jimin, having collapsed back onto his pillow from the hilarity of the situation. Jimin whipped back around to look at the older male. The redness in his face had calmed down a bit and his expression expressed an emotion of pure, unadulterated annoyance....
...“I don’t even know my RA that well; why in the world would I have a crush on him ?” Jimin spoke through his teeth and the other two simply giggled along together. He sighed and carded his fingers through his unkempt hair. Jimin refused to believe that anything was changing his opinion about the RA he knew no more about than his name. He wasn’t even exactly sure what year he was in, to be quite honest. Jimin stood up and sucked on his teeth judgmentally before turning on his heel and walking to the door. “You guys are assholes.”...
...The door to Jimin’s dorm room swung open, pushed by a tired and flustered redhead. His day had been long, no thanks to the RA down the hall. With the unexpected early start, Jimin had lost about two and a half hours of precious sleep that he couldn’t get back – especially not after his visit to Jungkook and Hoseok’s room. It was only a little more than a week into the new year and Jimin was already stressed to the max. His eyes landed almost habitually on Taehyung’s bed as he stepped farther into the room. The taller male laid on his bed with his phone held over his face; the blue light shone over his facial features and created unnatural shadows. It was about nine at night; truth be told it was out of character for both boys to be getting settled in this early....
...Jimin kicked off his sneakers and threw his book bag next to his desk. His last drama class had just ended at eight thirty; he had taken his time walking back in the dark, enjoying the cooling autumn air. The window of their room was cracked ever so slightly, allowing for the same crisp air to flow into their surroundings. The night would have been perfect, if not for the noise going on in Jimin’s head....
...“Tae, you conscious enough to talk to me?” Jimin flopped down onto Taehyung’s bed, nearly missing the other’s legs. It was normal for them to convene on one bed together; it usually happened when one had to have a serious talk with the other. Taehyung grunted in affirmation and Jimin took that as his cue to continue. “I’m so fucking tired, holy shit. You know what time I woke up today? At like nine thirty or ten. And you wanna know why?– Tae, you listening?”...
...Taehyung’s nose was buried in his phone. He dropped it onto his stomach and blinked twice at the redhead. “Huh? Yeah, you woke up hella early; what else is up?” His voice was raspy from not having used it in a while, though his tone grew more sincere the more he talked....
...Jimin stared blankly at the other before leaning his head against the wall and continuing. “The RA from down the hall came into our room and physically shook me awake. Are RAs even allowed to do that? ...Whatever, doesn’t matter,” he looked over at Taehyung who was, thankfully, still paying attention. “You’re not allowed to get upset with me for what I’m gonna tell you next, okay?”...
...“Yeah, okay,” Taehyung rolled his eyes and smirked. “Lay it on me.”...
...“Yoongi-ssi said that you basically need to chill it with the smoking, at least for a little while.”...
...“What? Why would I do that? It’s not hurting anyone. Plus he like, literally can’t make me,” The smirk on Taehyung’s lips only widened, forming a teasing smile. The chuckle that emerged from his lips was deviant in every way possible. “And you like joining in sometimes, Jiminie. Aren’t you a little ticked off that he asked that of us?”...
...Jimin exhaled through his nose in order to gather his thoughts before replying, “First of all, he knew it was you. I told him that it wasn’t me last night and he believed me. Second of all, there were other guys in the hall that complained to him about the smell, so just try and chill for a while, okay? Yoongi-ssi said he’d get in trouble if it continued.” He spoke quickly and his wordes managed to slur together in his haste....
...“Oh, look at you defending him! You like him!”...
...Jimin reached over and shoved Taehyung in the side. All the other could do was laugh at Jimin’s feeble attempt at self defense. “Can everyone please stop thinking I have a crush on a guy I barely know? God ,” his fingers swept through his fringe in frustration. “If you don’t wanna stop smoking then go downstairs and do it with Hoseok hyung; he said you’ve been stingy with yours recently anyways.” A smirk manifested on Jimin’s lips as he looked down at Taehyung, who was back to hiding his face in his phone; he could see that the other was embarrassed from a mile away, but not because of what he did to Hoseok. “Oh, and Yoongi-ssi said that if I told him you were resisting that he would come and talk some sense into you himself, and I’m sure you don’t want that.”...
...Taehyung dropped his phone onto his stomach once again, this time his eyes were wide and his lips stretched into a flat line. “The Legend can’t die. Nope. Not today,” He brought his hands up to rub at his eyes. “I guess I’ll have to go pay Hoseok hyung and Jungkook a visit sometime soon, then.” Jimin could see the light dusting of pink on the brunet’s cheeks forming at the idea of visiting the two roommates....
...“Maybe Jungkook would join you; who knows what kinds of things that kid has or hasn’t experienced,” Jimin teased as he scrambled to get off of Taehyung’s bed, nearly missing the slap Taehyung aimed for his back. His feet reached solid ground and he stuck his tongue out at his lethargic roommate before hopping up onto his own bed....
...–––...
...Soft snores sounded from the lump of Taehyung that was curled into a ball on his bed. His phone was abandoned and had fallen on the floor within the time he had been tossing and turning. The blankets that had once covered his body were now tangled in a mess around his ankles. Jimin lay awake, though, his phone casting a soft light onto his face. He didn’t want to sleep, nor was he going to try. It was the time of night where one usually decided to crash or to say, “ **** it, I’ll just wait ‘till I see the sun and then sleep.” In this case, Jimin chose the latter....
...In all reality, Jimin couldn’t clear his mind enough to start thinking about sleeping. He was worried about whether his roommate would really follow through with his – Yoongi’s – request, and whether the RA would keep his cool manner with the two of them if Taehyung continued to make problems. It wasn’t exactly Jimin’s place to worry about these things, since they didn’t have anything to do directly with him. However, he was the worrying type and tended to look out for his worrisome friend. Something was jabbing him in his brain to go do something about it if it was bothering him so much; locking his phone, Jimin sighed and rolled out of his bed. The best he could do at this point, he thought, was deal with the person who’d decide his and Taehyung’s fate in the end....
...He made sure he had his phone with him (in case the sleeping Taehyung were to wake up and wonder where he went off to) before walking quietly out of the dorm room. The hallway was quiet this late at night, and Jimin felt a shiver run down his spine when he realised just how quiet it was. He shuffled down the hallway towards the RA’s room with his hands shoved into his hoodie’s front pocket. His heart was beating rather quickly, though he couldn’t exactly put a pin on why....
...As Jimin faced the door to Yoongi’s room, he found himself unable to knock on it. It was really late, and one part of him didn’t want to disturb the other if he happened to be sleeping. The other part of him, though, wanted to get this over with. His hand subconsciously found its way up to the wood of the door and Jimin knocked briskly on it – once, and then a second time. He stepped back from the door and played with the rings on his finger waiting for the RA to answer....
...At the sound of the door opening, Jimin jumped a little and forced his hands to stick by his sides. The blue-haired RA popped his head out of the door; his eyes squinted in the light of the hallway and his hair was tousled, though he didn’t exactly look like he had been asleep. Before the other could speak, Jimin found himself stammering a small introduction, “Uh, hi again. I’m Jimin from room 309, as I’m sure you remember. Or, maybe you don’t,” his voice wavered before he sucked in another breath and continued. “I wanted to talk to you about something, but if you were asleep it can wait, I think?” It came out as a question rather than a statement; Jimin mentally pinched himself for being so underconfident. It was a stark difference from the demeanor he had presented himself in the last time he and the RA had met, and Yoongi definitely took note of it....
...A small smile appeared on Yoongi’s lips and he opened the door wider. “It’s no problem. Come on in, Jimin,” Jimin nodded and shuffled past the other into his room. His palms were slightly clammy and he wondered why he was getting so worked up over a simple conversation....
...The room seemed much larger than it was; it was the same size as Jimin’s own room, though the want of a second bed made it look a lot bigger. There was a loveseat sofa in the corner where a second bed would have been, and the standard twin size bed in the other. Various posters and polaroids hung on the walls, and an area rug protected his feet from the otherwise cold linoleum floor. “You can take a seat anywhere,” Yoongi spoke softly as he closed the door once again. Jimin’s eyes instinctively landed on the bed and he chose to sit there. His hands lay restlessly in his lap; he played continuously with his rings and his fingers out of pure nervousness....
...Yoongi took a seat on the loveseat and peered over at the jittery redhead. “So what was it that you wanted to talk to me about, Jimin?” He tried his best to sound as much like a mentor as he could, though his voice came out a little more awkward than planned. He was new to all of this, having just become an RA this year. He had entertained the idea in his past years at the university, but always came to the conclusion that he was too socially inept to deal with a whole hallway of students....
...Jimin straightened his back almost immediately and piped up, “Oh! I just wanted to apologize on behalf of my roommate,” He forced his hands to find purchase on the mattress, gripping to it firmly. “He’s really a handful and I can usually keep him in line, but I guess I just wasn’t paying enough attention this time around.”...
...Yoongi lowered his head and chuckled softly. “ That’s what you wanted to talk to me about?” His tone came off as judgemental, though as he continued his intentions became clearer to Jimin. “Jimin, it’s no big deal. I’m your RA, and even if I’m new I would have had to deal with something like this in the future. Don’t think too much of it,” Yoongi clasped his hands together as if he had deemed the conversation over; Jimin panicked a bit and words began to tumble out of his mouth before he could even register it....
...“Well, I also kinda wanted to apologize in advance for any other shit he might pull,” At his words Yoongi’s gaze softened and he relaxed back into the loveseat, signaling for Jimin to continue. “So… I wanted to maybe invite you out for dinner? Just to, like, pay in advance for any headaches you might get in the future, courtesy of Kim Taehyung.”...
...“But Jimin, this isn’t even your fault. Why are you doing this?” Yoongi leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees and cupped his chin in his hands. Jimin could feel the other’s gaze upon him, as if he were trying to decode some kind of cryptic message, and the redhead couldn’t help but lower his eyes....
...His voice was soft when he spoke, though it only showed an ounce of the nervousness he felt inside. “Just because I know how annoying it is to be bothered by Taehyung, and you shouldn’t have to deal with it as much as I do,” he looked up to see a smile grow on the other male’s face; at least Jimin’s intentions were being taken the right way....
...Yoongi stood up from the loveseat and paced a few steps over towards Jimin and held out his hand. “Okay, I believe you. Friday night in the dining hall sound good to you?” Jimin looked up at the RA with a puzzled look but nodded his head; he could feel his cheeks growing hotter and thanked the gods above for the dim lighting in Yoongi’s room. “Great. Give me your phone so I can add my number,” as the words left Yoongi’s mouth Jimin scrambled to locate his phone; all sense had left his brain and he reasoned that it was because of the late hour at which he was still up on a Tuesday night....
...Once the redhead found his phone, Yoongi punched in his number and sent himself a text message in order to have Jimin’s number as well. He handed the cold metal device back to Jimin and started towards the door. “I’ll see you around, Jimin. Have a good night,” a tired smile resurfaced on the RA’s mouth and Jimin took that as his cue to leave. He muttered a small goodnight to the other as he shuffled out of the single dorm room and into the barren hallway. The door shut behind him quietly and Jimin let out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding. I’m only like this because I’ve never talked to him like that before, he thought to himself as he walked back towards his own room. He breathed slowly through his nose in an attempt to get his heart rate to slow down again....
...When he entered his room again, the first thing he noticed was a now very awake Kim Taehyung sitting cross-legged in his bed with his nose buried in a game console. Great, one more obstacle before he could fall into bed and sleep for the next eternity. Taehyung poked his head up at the sound of the door opening and squinted at the other. “Where have you been?” It wasn’t accusatory or even laced with worry; it was merely a casual inquiry from a roommate that had been unexpectedly left alone while he was asleep. Jimin kicked off his shoes and peeled off his socks before answering....
...“I just needed some fresh air, is all,” Jimin shrugged and rolled into bed. He drew his phone out of his pocket and unlocked it; it opened immediately to the one-message text conversation between him and Yoongi. The constriction of his chest peaked again for a moment before he willed it to go down by heaving a tired sigh. He stared at the blue message bubble and grinned at the identifier Yoongi had chosen for him, “ kid .” The name would have otherwise been interpreted as offensive, but Jimin knew from the way Yoongi had reacted to his rambling that it was anything but offensive....
...Taehyung tossed his game console to the side and turned to face a concentrated Jimin. “Bullshit, you were with someone,” a corner of his mouth twitched upwards and the brunet swore he could see right through his roommate’s façade....
...“No, I wasn’t,” Jimin didn’t spare the other a second glance as he locked his phone – only after changing Yoongi’s contact name to “Yoongi-ssi ” – and turned quickly to shut off the single lamp that illuminated the room. “Now shut up and go to sleep, Lord knows you need it. Your sleep schedule is so fucked up these days.” A grumble emerged from Taehyung’s throat and Jimin scoffed affectionately in the dark. He placed his phone on the bedside table and burrowed into his sheets; he couldn’t repress the smile that played on his lips as he succumbed to sleep....
