his good friends call him Billy the Whizz.
Ladies and Gentlemen let join our
hands together and welcome Billy Monger!!
Hey Billy, welcome to channel X podcast
Thanks for having me here
I hope your doing good Billy
I’m doing good Victor. It’s good to see
you all again
To all those who don’t know, it’s a podcast
for some of the special sportsmen and women who made their comeback into the
sport after a horrifying incident There is only a few people who made a comeback into Formula One and they are the great Niki Lauda, Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica, Mika Hakkinen, Alex Zanardi and you Billy
Rob Monger. Today we will get to understand Billy Monger and we are going to ask him some questions and a lot
about his motor racing career Billy Rob Monger, how
did you start your karting career and what made you fall in love with
motorsport..??
My dad Rob Monger was a former go-kart racer and I think that racing was in my blood because I
used to watch my dad construct karts do my neighbours and my dad used to help
them in their Strategy and used to give them some good racing advice and he was
my mentor. He used to take me near the tracks that he was once a part of and
show me all the trophies that he won. My mom used to say to me that my dad used to
take his Mar in front of her house and he used to show his trophies to her
neighbours. And she even said to me that, my dad took her for a date on a
racing track the place where he won his first karting championship. My dad
arranged the date on a cockpit and it was a bit weird for my mom and the first
gift my dad gave her was a front wing.
Who gifts a front wing as a gift? Lol, man!!
I asked my dad
about the gift, he gave to my mom and he said that he wanted to give a costly
gift so he gave her a front wing which is $300,000.
Your dad is just
insane man!!
Let’s come back to you Billy, at the age of 6 you got your first kart in guess
It was 3 then, where my dad brought me a go-kart. Not on my 6th birthday. My dad
used to say me a lot about Senna and his driving style and how he won his 3
drivers championships. I used to fight with my dad saying Michael Schumacher
and Fernando Alonso were better than Ayrton Senna. But deep down we all know
that Ayrton Senna was, is and will be the best driver of all the generation.
He’s a GOAT. And you shouldn’t expect our generation to say Senna was good. We
will say, Schumacher was best because he has won 7 championships Lewis Hamilton has
won 7 championships.
Got to call Sir Lewis Hamilton.
At the age of 6,
you started participating in your local karting events and you have a record
over there you never finished below P3 in your entire local karting career. The
way you go wheel to wheel with your rivals is just brilliant and you like to
take the inside line and overtake him on your right side. There was not a
single guy near you on Saturday’s and we shouldn’t speak about Sunday’s if you
are on pole and you got a nickname Billy Whizz. The way you overtake your
opponent or squeeze past them in any race is pretty good.
In 2009 you made your debut at the highest level of British Honda Cadet Karting. There were 19 participants; they are Jamie Caroline, Daniel Ticktum, Callum Ilott, Aaron Drusy, Joshua Cornwill, Dave Wooder, Jake Bartholomew, Peter Griffin, Billy Chaplin, Kyle Petrica, Robert Forsythe, Liam Murray, Jack Mitchel, Simon Carr, Tristan Charpentier, Jack Partidge, Piers Hickin and Billy Monger.
In the like of these drivers you finished P5 overall and it was your debut season. P1 Jamie Caroline, Red bull Racing Academy’s Daniel Ticktum finished P2, P3 Luke Knott, Callum Ilott Ferrari’s reserve driver Finished P4 and P5 Billy Monger. Wow!!
Did you imagine, at your debut season that you are going to Finish P5? It might have increased your confidence
Ya, in 2008 when Sir Lewis Hamilton won his first drivers championship and I got some confidence by watching my idol win
In 2010, you participated again in the Honda Cadet super one British Karting championship with ambition motorsport and what a way to win the championship. You dominated the whole championship
with your unique driving style. What would you like to say about the British karting championship?
It was a great championship to participate in. The 2009 championship where I finished P5 It increased my confidence and my dad helped me in developing my kart from fast to super fast and they used to call me Billy Whizz, my dad’s support was always with me and some good strategies from my dad and team principal helped me in dominating the whole season.
Dave Wooder, who finished P2 in 2010 has said that it ewes impossible to overtake you in straights and even said that you were 10 times quicker than others at turns and they were unable to cover the gap between you and others and it was impossible to stop you when it’s raining and Billy completely deserved to win the championship. Congrats Billy our next Lewis Hamilton. These were his words.
I read them in an article and he’s a great guy to be around, he has a positive attitude with a lot of his background. Thank you, Dave
