Lost Soul's

Introduction

Hello, my name is Andrew im a 17 year old boy and I guess you could call me the protagonist of this little pet project and im here to explain to you the settings of the story so here we go. For the most part the cities are medieval in style. The world is split into four countries, Brelan to the north, Alafore to the east, Calmite to the west, and my country Marxis to the south. I live in a small unnamed village to the far south of the capital city Belmoth, we're a mostly farming village but some choose to be adventurers, they're very rare here and don't last long but all us kids admire them non the less. Adventurers are split into categories Bronze, Iron, Gold, Cobalt, Ruby, Platinum, and the rarest, Titanium currently there is only 4 registered Titanium class adventurers. Brelan is known for its incredibly strong and resilient citizens but also its sheer cold winters. Alafore is small country that's relatively centralized on the map and has turned into more of a hub for caravans to travel through. Calmite, the country of iron, its a mostly dwarven country and is known for mining and having the most advanced military in the world. And Marxis, it isn't known for much except its a magical superpower, you see, magic is very rare in this world however Marxis has about 15 recorded magicians (the other country's only have 4-6). Magicians are treated with extreme respect, admiration, and fear, the art of magic is extremely powerful and even a novice can rival an experienced soldier. Technically every person in the world can learn magic but it's so excruciatingly difficult most stop before they get even the most basic things down, unless you have a natural affinity for an element (fire, water, earth, wind, holy, demonic) its almost impossible to learn magic. And each element has subcategories, as an example, water/illusion, fire/reinforcing. Fire is usually offence/enforcement magic, water is support and earth is the most defensive type of magic and wind is neutral it doesn't specialize in anything, demonic and holy are the most rare magic with demonic being the most offensive but hard to control while holy is offensive/support and is the hardest to learn, non of these are set in stone but these are just the average guidelines. Druids are the only race that can learn healing magic. Ah! I guess I should also explain the different races, the main races consist of elves, dwarves, and humans, there are a few more minor races like druids but most aren't worth mentioning quite yet. Every country has a royal family/ bloodline and also nobles, but nobility is given not by bloodline but by money and influence, say an adventurer becomes very famous and loved its possible for the royal family to anoint him a noble (This is very uncommon) or if you acquire and give enough money to the royal family you will also be anoint you a noble (But this is frowned upon by the general public) 1 gold is 100 silver and 1 silver is 100 bronze. You see in my world many people sign up to be an adventurer through a guild (though its pretty much a sword for hire but alot more loyal than that sounds) in seek of fame or fortune though some do it for fun or for a more personal reason, they are usually hired to clear area's of monster's, hunt certain people (Though it costs a small fortune and a special type of adventurer to make that kinda request) or guard caravans, whatever monsters the adventures miss the city guards usually take care of. Being so far from any major city, no guards or adventurers clear the roads and area's around the village so monster's are very common. But I think that's all the major stuff out of the way so I guess I'll see you soon! -Andrew

(Hi author here, I know kinda a boring first chapter but everything here is common knowledge in the world I really wanted to get all this stuff out of the way so not to bog down and slow the story later on so, sorry about that and if you could leave comments to tell me what you think of the series and how you think I can make it better that would be great but anyway I hope you enjoy the story and the world im creating)

Peace

"....ke up.....ake up... WAKE UP!!" I jolted awake and looked around for someone but no one's there... Hm, that's strange maybe it was a dream, I thought and shrugged it off. "Well im awake now I might as well get up" I got out of bed and made my way to the kitchen for breakfast.

"Good morning!" my mom said smiling at me "don't you look worse for wear".

"Good morning" I sat down to eat "Did you call me a second ago?"

"Yell for you? No, I've been fixing breakfast for you and your brother, he's due back any time now, why?" she says.

"Oh its nothing must be my imagination..." It seemed to vivid to be a dream.... my thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a horse walking outside.

"Sounds like Isaac's home, I know you admire him but try not to tackle him this time" she says with a grin

I stopped eating and immediately ran out the door to greet my brother. I could see him riding towards the house on his horse, as he climbed off I ran to him "Isaac!" I shouted, but once he got off the horse I noticed him wincing in pain, "What happend?!" I put my arm around him to help stabilize him.

"Oh, just some monster's" after he said that I realized his arms where covered in bandages. "C'mon let's get back to the house" I said concerned.

Once we arrived at the house Isaac told us about what happened. Apparently a large group of monsters ambushed him.

"The monsters have become more active lately it's starting to worry me... Anyway I guess I'm lucky I got off with only this" he exclaimed.

"That is a little worrisome, you need to be extra careful from now on ok?" mom said.

"Alright mom, but somebody's gotta go out there and make sure that they don't attack the village and most of the people here are too young, old, or weak to do it, so that just leaves me" he looked over at me and saw my obvious annoyance "What are you so angry about pip squeak?"

"Starting today I want you to train me to be an adventurer, then I can go with you on your excursions and we'll protect each other so things like this don't happen again"

"It might be a good idea but I don't know if you'll be able to keep up" he teases.

"Hey give me a little credit I am your brother after all"

"Well I suppose it wouldn't hurt, it wont be anything fancy, but at least you'll be able to defend yourself."

"Yes! I'll grab my sword and head to the training area" in reality your "sword" was a sharpened stick that was more of a spear than anything. "I'll meet you at the training grounds" you run out the door.

Calamity

After I left Mom and Isaac continued to talk.

"What do you think?" Mom asked.

"To be honest I don't know what to think" Issac began "about a week ago they started moving in small packs and as time passes they just seem to be getting more and more organized. With only me defending, if they attack the village in earnest we wont stand a chance."

"Is that why your going to start training him?"

"Yeah. Try as I might I can't hold all of them back, they will overwhelm me eventually. To be frank I need him."

"Do you think it's Him?"

"God I hope not. If He actually escaped the world would burn and we would be first to go." Isaac said before leaving the house. The village is composed of about 7 houses each made of logs from the nearby forest with thatch roofs. the houses are made in a circle pattern around a large open area and a well in the center and a small area off to the side with DIY training dummies made from potato sacks and large branches for the almost nonexistent adventurers and soldiers that pass through.

"Are you sure about this? I wont go easy on you just because your my brother."

"C'mon lets start already!!" He's always rejected your requests before, I wonder what changed his mind?

He sigh's "Well alright, might as well get started" Isaac spends the rest of the day showing me the basics of swordplay as well as some exercise regimes I should follow "There you go your a natural!"

"Just you watch I'll surpass you in no time!"

"Hmph, I look forward to it" he says with a smirk "alright serious time, come here" I walked over to him "With the monsters getting more active I'm gonna need you soon. No pressure but without you, this village might fall, so I need you to take this training seriously, okay?"

"...Alright. I'll make sure to take it seriously, if you need help don't hesitate to come to me alright?"

He smiles and relaxed a bit "Alright. Thank you, its starting to get late we should head back before mom gets worried, you know how she is."

As we head back to the village we were talking about the future when we were interrupted by an ear splitting explosion in the village that engulfed it in flames while smoke blackened the little light that was left in the sky.

"What the hell!?" Isaac yells. We start to run but I stupidly begin to rush ahead of him "Andrew wait!" he called out but I ignored him. As I approached the village I notice giant monsters unlike anything I've ever seen. Spiders the size of buildings, dogs that eye's and mouths glowed with a crimson red, what seemed to be a tree that was twisted and grotesque with an agonized face carved into the bark, even nature has turned its back on this village. It was like hell on earth. Just then I began to hear a low rumble, at first I thought it might be my imagination or caused by the monsters rampaging, but slowly it got louder and louder, and then suddenly the very ground beneath me gave way and before I had a chance to react I fell, deep into the abyss.

I could hear Isaac call my name in desperation only to be snuffed out by the darkness. As I fell for what seems to be an eternity my life began to flash before my eye's, everything I knew, friends, your family gone, in the blink of an eye, leaving everyone to fend for themselves. You begin to cry.
