Ashes Between The Rain
The Rain Never Ends
Chapter 1 – The Rain Never Ends
The city never slept. It drowned.
Neon lights bled into the rain-slick streets, painting puddles with colors that didn’t belong to the night. Every corner hummed with secrets, and every secret waited to be washed away.
Detective Seo Min-jun stood at the yellow tape, hood pulled up over his head. Water dripped off his coat, running down his cheek like sweat.
The corpse lay in the middle of the alley, staged too neatly. An umbrella clutched in the dead man’s hand, even though the ground was slick beneath him.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Detective Seo Min-jun?
Seo Min-jun( mc)
That depends. Who's asking?
Han Jiwon(mc)
Detective Han Ji-won. Violent Crimes.
We’re supposed to “cooperate” on the new case.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Cooperate?
So the rumors were true. They’re forcing us into a tag-team.
Han Jiwon(mc)
You say it like we’re about to wrestle.
Han Jiwon(mc)
🙄
Anyway, the victim was found last night in Mapo. My team’s already on scene
Min-jun crouched, eyes narrowing at a strange smear on the victim’s wrist. A symbol, faint but carved into the skin.
Han Jiwon(mc)
“Well? What do you think, genius?”
Seo Min-jun( mc)
“It’s not robbery. Too careful. Whoever did this wanted him found.”
Han Jiwon(mc)
“Or maybe you’re just overthinking again.”
Seo Min-jun( mc)
“That’s literally the job. Thinking more than you.”
Han Jiwon(mc)
“Wow. Didn’t realize sarcasm was a detective tool.”
Yoo Sae-jin(reporter)
“Or maybe you two are too busy flirting to notice the obvious.”
They turned. Reporter Yoo Hye-rin leaned just beyond the tape, camera in hand, auburn hair glinting under the streetlight. Smirk sharp enough to cut.
Han Jiwon(mc)
You’ve got to be kidding me.”
Seo Min-jun( mc)
“What are you doing here, Hye-rin?”
Yoo Sae-jin(reporter)
“Same as you. Chasing stories in the rain. Difference is, I actually find them.”
The flash from her camera lit the alley for half a second, capturing the body, the rain, and their faces frozen between annoyance and suspicion.
And in that flash, the city seemed to whisper: This is only the beginning.

Echoes in the Rain
Chapter 2: Echoes in the Rain
[Scene: 1:03 a.m. The alley is empty now. Only Ji-won remains, crouched beside the bloodstained concrete. The rain has softened to a drizzle.]
Han Jiwon(mc)
…Same spot. Same smell.
(She traces a faint scratch mark on the ground with her glove.)
Han Jiwon(mc)
You never really leave these places behind, do you?
[Flashback — five years earlier, a different crime scene.]
Captain Ryu
Rookie Han Ji-won, stop staring. Take the photo.
Han Jiwon(mc)
**young jiwon**
She was my age… sir.
Captain Ryu
That’s what makes this job cruel. You’ll learn.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Guess I never did.
[She stands, looks toward the end of the alley where the rain hides the city lights.]
Time skip
1:27 a.m. The rain has turned into a mist. Police lights fade as most officers clear the area.]
Han Jiwon(mc)
(checking her watch) It’s already past one.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Guess the city never sleeps… neither do we.
Han Jiwon(mc)
I could use coffee more than sleep right now.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
(steps closer to the body) Forensics should’ve been here fifteen minutes ago
Han Jiwon(mc)
They’ll show. Dae-hyun never misses a scene — he just enjoys the entrance.
[Footsteps echo through the alley. A man in a black forensic coat appears, holding a flashlight.]
Officer Lee
Speak of the devil, huh?
Seo Min-jun( mc)
you are late..again
Dae-hyun
No, I’m fashionable. There’s a difference.
Han Jiwon(mc)
(shakes her head) You and your timing.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Female, early twenties. Single wound to the neck. Drag marks toward the wall. We found this—
[She holds out the torn silver badge chain.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Yeah. Possibly police-issued.
Dae-hyun
(raises a brow) So this could be one of us?
Han Jiwon(mc)
We’re not jumping to conclusions. But… the serial engraving is faded — only “Unit—” is visible.
Dae-hyun
I’ll run it through the lab, see if it matches any missing equipment reports.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Do that. And check the blood splatter pattern near the bricks — it looks like she turned to face her killer.
Han Jiwon(mc)
(quietly) Brave or desperate.
Dae-hyun
You’re getting poetic again, Ji-won.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Maybe the city’s rubbing off on me.
[A pause. The rain drips down the gutter, steady and hollow.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Let’s wrap for now. We’ll regroup in the morning — precinct meeting at nine.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Fine. But Min-jun—
[ Her eye catches something.
She crouches, shining her flashlight over the wet ground. Something metallic glints near the trash bins.]
She picks it up — a silver lighter, slick with rain. The initials J.K.R. are engraved at the bottom.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Expensive brand. Not your usual street find.
Han Jiwon(mc)
I know this model. Limited edition. Only released in Busan two years ago.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
You’ve got a weird memory for lighters.
Han Jiwon(mc)
(chuckles lightly)
[She turns it in her hand, thumb tracing the small scratch on one side.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Think it’s our killer’s?
Han Jiwon(mc)
Maybe. Or someone wanted us to think that.
The rain quiets. Ji-won’s reflection blurs in a puddle as thunder rolls far off.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
You ever stop to wonder why it’s always raining when we find a body?
Han Jiwon(mc)
Maybe the city’s trying to confess.
[They exchange a long look — part challenge, part understanding.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Fine. Bag it. I’ll run it through forensics first thing.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Already done.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
You really don’t need a partner, do you?
Han Jiwon(mc)
No. But I’m stuck with one anyway.
[They walk off into the mist, the lighter’s reflection catching one last spark of the streetlight.]
The city stayed silent, but the lighter burned in her thoughts — because three years ago, she’d seen those same initials on a police badge

Sparks In The Station
[Scene: Seoul Metropolitan Police, 9:02 a.m. The rain’s gone, but the sky still hangs low and gray. Ji-won walks in, her hair still damp from the drizzle.]
Officer Lee
(yawns) You look like you wrestled with the weather.
Han Jiwon(mc)
The weather won.
[She drops her folder on her desk. Min-jun’s already there, leaning over the case board with his coffee half-empty.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
you're late
Han Jiwon(mc)
you are early
Seo Min-jun( mc)
I don't sleep much
Han Jiwon(mc)
that makes two of us
[Their eyes meet briefly. A quiet beat passes before Park Dae-hyun — the forensic officer — bursts in, holding a sealed evidence file.]
Dae-hyun
Okay, you two rain-soaked heroes, listen up. You’re going to love this.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
That tone means I won’t.
Dae-hyun
you're right. u won't
[He tosses the report on the table.]
Dae-hyun
That lighter you found? It’s registered.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Registered? To who?
Dae-hyun
Captain Jung Ki-rok.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
(pauses) He’s one of ours.
Han Jiwon(mc)
He retired last year after that warehouse fire.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Don’t say it.
Dae-hyun
he went missing three weeks ago
[Silence. The hum of fluorescent lights fills the room.]
Han Jiwon(mc)
You’re saying this lighter belonged to a missing cop.
Han Jiwon(mc)
Or someone who wanted us to think so.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
[Min-jun clenches his jaw, glancing at the whiteboard where the photo of last night’s victim stares back at him.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Pull all his old case files. Every unsolved from the last five years.
[A notification pings on the monitor — old records loading. One file blinks red: “CLASSIFIED.”]
Officer Lee
One of his cases is restricted access. Even with detective clearance.
Dae-hyun
That’s weird. Only Internal Affairs can lock a file that deep.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Then we ask them
Han Jiwon(mc)
You know how that goes — they’ll stall, then deny.
Han Jiwon(mc)
[She leans back, eyes narrowing at the red “CLASSIFIED” mark.]
Han Jiwon(mc)
He was investigating something someone didn’t want found.
Seo Min-jun( mc)
And now someone’s killing to bury it.
[A phone rings sharply across the office. Everyone goes quiet.]
receptionist
Detective Han, call for you. Says it’s urgent.
Han Jiwon(mc)
(takes the phone) Han Ji-won speaking.
Park
Voice (distorted): You shouldn’t have picked that lighter up.
[Static. The line dies. The room falls silent.]
Seo Min-jun( mc)
Who was that?
Han Jiwon(mc)
…No idea. But they knew my name.
[Cut to outside: a shadowed figure watching the station from across the street. A glint of silver in his hand.]
In a city washed clean by rain, the dirt always finds a way back.
