"Some desires end with time." Elva spoke looking out is the window.

It's Monsoon.

Elva stood up and walk to the refrigerator. Took out a bottle of red wine and gulped a few times. It tasted sweet. She wanted to taste bitter though.

Her long white night dress dragged behind her as she slowly stepped on the sofa. She curled up, drank the wine, and watched the news.

"The rain is expected to be over in a day of time. In such periods citizens are said to stay indoors...."

Elva felt dizzy and slowly placed the wine bottle in the glass table before her. She sighed again and again. Her phone lit up and rang at that time.

She glanced at it once. It is the manager of the company she works in. She can guess the reason of her phone call, so she didn't pick up.

The cute cellphone ranged again a few times. It fell silent for a bit, and soon few messages came. After that everything fell silent. The room appeared cold and unfeeling.

Elva looked around, her eyes soulless. As if trying to see something, but she couldn't. She grabbed her brown blanket wobbly and covered herself. Her breathing even out, and she fell asleep on the couch.

The next day. When she woke up, it was still raining.

The whole room was death except for the news still playing on the screen. She frowned and felt the headache. Her calm eyes were confused, and she remembered that she drank wine last night.

She sighed and got freshen up. Made breakfast for herself and cleaned the room afterwards. A bit of relief washed over her after she was done with the chores. The phone lit up several times in between though.

When she was finally done and sat down it was already past lunch. She grabbed her phone for the first time today. Their came a bunch of messages. The manager telling her about the new project. It is dealt by Jasmine since Elva was absent. Elva just glanced at it and looked at others.

She saw her doctor's message with medical receipt file. He messaged, "Elva, I have sent the medical report. Just do attend the session in time."

She typed back, "Thank you doctor. I will."

After looking at the file she changed the news channel. The weather report is good for successive days. Nothing major seems to have happen.

Elva turned off the TV and went to her bedroom. Cleaned every corner of the room. She packed all her luggage and called her friend.

"Hello, Rene."

"Hello! Elva! How are your doing??!" An excited voice rush through the phone call.

Elva was a bit stunned. She took a moment and replied, "I'm fine and what about you?"

"I'm super fine. And I'm waiting for you to come here!!!"

Elva smiled, "I will return tomorrow afternoon."

Rene was stunned, "Are you sure? Really!!"

"Yeah." Elva replied.

Rene laughed, "I will come to pick you up from the airport. Don't go back on your words."

"I won't. Don't worry."

"How can I not? You were so determined to stay there. What if you suddenly changed your mind again??"

Elva sighed and said, "Rene, I have a session with Doctor Karl."

Rene calmed down instantly, "Did he said that you need another surgery??"

Elva shook her head, "No. Just a check up. But I will resign here and come to city X for new job. Doctor James has already issued a medical report for me."

Rene encouraged her, "That's right my girl! Just leave those heartless beings and come here to me! I will show you the life you can live!"

"You want to pollute my mind." Elva said blankly.

"Don't talk as if you are any saint." Rene retorted.

"I'm very simple and pure lady, Rene." Elva laughed lightly.

"Haha, who says, just look! Weren't you being the one who used to think all dirty when we were at our college time??!" Rene's voice raised passionately.

Elva felt embarrassed for a moment, "Aye, those were just immature act. It doesn't count."

"Damn, Elva you haven't changed!" Rene roared like. Small cat. Angry but still adorable.

"Neither did you."

"Okay I lost. I will treat you a delicious meal once you reach here. I will be waiting for you!!"

"Alright. It's been a long time since I have tasted your food." Elva reminisced.

Rene replied instantly, "I always ask you to come but you won't. But let's meet tomorrow at morning. You will taste my handmade special food if you come sooner."

"Okay, I will."

"Yeah bye, we will meet soon."

"Yeah."

The call ended. But Elva still had a smile on her face. She really is happy to have such a friend. Rene is one of the best friends she has since college times. Her innocence, positivity, and all excited personality makes Elva feel the thrill of life. The life doesn't seem unbearable like it did before.

The moment is a bit beautiful now.

We became friends at first year of our college. It was sunny and beautiful day of course for others. But I was listless and exhausted the moment I stepped into our college gate. I was always insecure and dull person.

Even though boring, it wasn't bad. But it did help me meet new people. New friends who are simple but crazy.

It never crossed me, that three years of the college will pass in a blink of an eye. Like it happened in a flash. I missed it. But more importantly, I missed my girls. The friends who made me laugh and be happy during confused period of my life.

Rene is one of them. I wonder how others are though. I hope fine. We haven't met each other for so long. Since that day, after our last examination day, we haven't met. I really miss them.

The sun is shining too bright today. Maybe this is a sign of meeting this time. Elva smiled awkwardly at her thoughts.

The next day, Elva returned to her office. She went straight to the office with her resignation. It passed without much effort. She farewell to every one she knew. Returned to her apartment and went straight to the airport.

From boarding the plane to landing, all she did was sleep. All night and reached during the morning time at 5 AM. Adjusting her hair and look, she had just arrived before the waiting sector. She looked around and didn't see Rene, she fished out her phone to call her.

"Elva!"

Someone called.

Elva looked at the source of the sound. She instantly saw her adorable friend, jumping happily at the side. With a smile Elva walked to her. Rene was so happy, even her signboard has a big smiley face, with "Welcome home ELVA" written on it.

It is such warmth that drove Elva to smile every time she remembered her friends. 'I'm so blessed.'

Rene hurriedly approached her, "Elva, I almost couldn't recognize you! What have you been doing? Do you even eat??" her face shocked.

Elva shook her head affectionately, "Don't worry, it's just side effect of the surgery I had last month. I will recover soon."

"That's the case." Rene smiled, "It's okay, I will fatten you up! Now you are here, we shall return home to eat my delicious food!"

Elva responded, "Yeah, I know."

Rene took her to her car, and they drove straight to her apartment. She said while driving, "I had brought all the ingredients for you just yesterday. I know you are hungry, since you don't eat on flights. But you should try to eat even a little bit. Just to be safe. What if you faint?"

Elva took out a small box and handed her, "Here, a gift for you."

Rene's eyes sparkled, "What's in it????"

Elva Smiled but didn't say anything else.

Rene said mischievously, "What's wrong? Is there diamond inside?" she laughed.

Elva couldn't help but say, "You don't like diamonds. You fear losing them, don't you?"

Rene said sighing, "Ah, really. I had lost one when Shawn gave me last time. I thought I lost it. But it was on the shower shelf. I had forgotten about it." She added, "He is still angry."

"I have explained it many times and return it to him though. But he is so persistent. He gave the ring back again. I'm very tired about it." she sighed.

Elva nodded. Relationships are complicated, so she won't say anything. It's good that her reserve nature doesn't affect her friendship with Rene and others.

But wait!

"Is he still there?" Elva asked just remembered that Shawn and Rene lived together. She instantly regretted and blamed herself. Atleast she should have asked Rene before.

Rene shook her head hurriedly, "I sent him away knowing you won't like it. After all, our Elva is a shy but naughty girl!"

Elva relaxed and said, "I think it's you who is naughty." She added after some thoughts, "I'm actually surprised he left really."

Rene laughed, "He has to if I say so."

However he is such a clingy guy. Elva still remember last time she had video called Rene, this guy interrupted every few seconds. And they couldn't talk properly until Rene closed the bedroom door on his face. It served him right though. This guy plays games in every free time and ignores Rene. But if Rene is busy he will ruin it. Elva actually doesn't like this kind of guy. But it's Rene who is in love. So she won't say anything bad about him.

Elva nodded, "How is the work here?"

"It is good. I hope you join one of the company here. The situation is better than your old place."

"I really planned to search for one here."

"That's great! Why not I recommend some companies to you?"

"It will be very helpful." Elva smiled.

Rene turning the steering wheel smiled, "Anything for my love."

Elva laughed.

Rene played a song. Different from her favorite, it is actually a calm one. Not new, it is Elva's favorite song. The song she used to listen when she was still in the college.

Elva looked outside and muttered, "It will rain, maybe."

Rene chuckled, "Well, who knows. The season is rainy. We shall go out with others for trekking during next summer."

Elva nodded, but shook her head soon, "I can't. It's been only a month after my heart surgery. The doctor said, no heavy activities. Not even running."

Rene sighed, "I'm actually super confuse, how did your heart condition got worse all of a sudden??"

Her eyes instantly enraged, "Did that cousin sister of yours did something? I had that hunch before! She did it right!!"

Elva smiled, "Well, it was an accident. Focus on the road Rene."

Rene sighed. As if it was an accident!! Elva has always been an eyesore for her aunt and uncle. She is more beautiful than their daughter so she was treated poorly by them since childhood. If Elva's parents had not died back then. Things would have been different.

Ah, forget it. She doesn't want Elva to be unhappy. She changed the subject, "There are several companies which had announced for the post of secretary. You should try them."

Elva nodded, "I will search after a week. Since a rest is well deserved after the session."

Rene asked, "Oh when is it? I will accompany you."

Elva denied, "Just go to work. I can handle it. I have already troubled you with my presence. Even your lover had to go away."

Rene rolled her eyes, "Oh please, don't say any of that. You are my friend. How can my work compared to you, although that so called lover could be a bit. Only a bit though."

Elva chuckled, "Okay, i understand. But I will go myself. You focus on your work."

Rene laughed, "Alright. Here we are." She stopped the car and winked at Elva, "Let's go in."

Elva nodded.

Rene's apartment is at tenth floor. Elva didn't bring many things, so her luggage was pretty light. Rene even complained," I didn't noticed before but what happened to your luggage? Have you also starved your luggage??"

Elva was speechless as she replied, "I tend to buy other things from the market today after the session."

Rene nodded reluctantly. She thought, 'Still, it is so little!'

That day, Rene cooked all she could cook. Elva ate her fill. It's been so long, tasting her food made Elva very happy. Rene is still the best cook she ever knew.

It was a shame that she had to leave for her office work. Elva stayed alone in the apartment till 3 in the afternoon. It was her session time.

She took a taxi and reached the hospital in the given time. It didn't take long to find the specific room either. The session lasted for half an hour. Her heart condition is okay. She is glad for that.

But she is prohibited to drink. Elva was a bit sad. Ahh!! She wanted to try a drink. The doctor repeated strictly again and again. She will be death in the next session if she actually did drink.

Elva returned to Rene's apartment at 5. She and Rene had their dinner and watched series together. They always used to when they were in the college. For some day, the chips packets were thrown in bundles. Even Rene's neighbor was shocked.

Elva went to the mall to buy fresh clothes. Her frame has changed. She also wanted to wear more fresh color clothes to feel refreshing. It helps heal her mental health and makes her feel light.

She brought some for Rene too. When she reached the apartment it was a bit late. Just when she stepped inside the living room, some noises came from the Rene's bedroom.

Elva called, "Rene!?"

She replied instantly and came out of her room, "Ah, you are back, Elva."

Smiling a bit awkwardly, she said, "Surprisingly Shawn came to collect his stuff for some journey too. I was just talking to him."

Elva was stunned but understood, "I will rest for a while. Go on, spend some time with him instead. I'm tired after the session. Oh and take these. it's for you."

Gave Rene the clothes and left. Elva has no desire to meet this guy. He doesn't gives good vibes.

Rene, returned to her bedroom.

Actually this was the sole reason why Elva wanted to ensure Shawn wasn't at home. He is a weird one. Elva is already looking for an apartment though. Since she has been working for many years, she doesn't lack money to rent a nice apartment.

After searching for so long she found one. It is in the main district. The cost is a bit high, but the security and environment is very good. Elva just needed such apartment. She called the owner and decided to rent it after negotiating the price properly.

It was around 10, Rene shouted to come for dinner. Elva hurriedly freshened up and went downstairs. Shawn wasn't there. Rene was looking at the dishes absent-minded. Elva had a bad feeling. It is actually stuffy.

Elva smiled and teased, "What happened Rene? Did your lover left without a kiss?"

Rene smiled slowly, her eyes were dull, "No. Why are you asking?"

Elva frowned, "What happened?"

Rene just shook her head.

Elva said slowly, "Oh, I have already found an apartment. I will leave tomorrow morning. You have been taking care of me these days. Thanks."

Rene was stunned, "Why are you going away suddenly?"

Elva confused asked, "What do you mean?"

Rene pouted, "I thought you will be living with me from now on. At least for a month."

Elva was stunned. She isn't sure how Rene came up with that idea. They are friends, that's right. But living with someone who has boyfriend isn't right. Moreover Shawn will soon come to her for some "serious" conversation afterwards.

"Hey, are you bothered by something? Rene?" Asked Elva slowly.

Rene's smiling face disappeared slowly. She pursed her lips. Like she will cry right away. Elva felt she was stabbed at the moment. She stood you instantly and hugged Rene.

"Shh, calm down. Take a deep breath and exhale slowly." Patting Rene's back slowly, "Tell me what happened?"

Rene's eyes reddened a bit. She slowly replied, "Shawn came today to break up with me."

Elva was stunned.

"What!?"

Rene cried silently as she continued to say, "He said he is in love with someone else. She is beautiful, talented and also makes him happy. He said, he realized that he never loved me."

"Who is that lady?" Elva couldn't believe it and added, "Maybe It's a prank. How can he just suddenly -"

"No." Rene added, "No, it isn't suddenly. He said it's been a year now."

Elva's mind blew with anger. Her eyes widened, "That damn bastard actually cheated! And he has the nerve to act like that?"

Rene nodded like a small child.

Her small innocent face full of grief. Elva can't take it. This is not what Rene deserves. No way, she can't shed her precious tears for that scumbag. She patiently calmed Rene down and herself too.

It took a long time. The dinner turned cold. Elva hugged Rene to help her sleep in her room.

The next day, both woke up late.

Rene was in low spirit for few weeks. It went on, day after day. When the end of the month came, Elva finally couldn't take it anymore. Like a walking doll, Rene appeared have lost all her will to smile and do anything she likes.

Elva decided to just do what she thought to do. She wanted to give Rene time to digest the heartache and overcome it slowly. But she apparently can't do it.

The first thing Elva did was after waking up was to dragged Rene out for a wonderful lunch. Booked special private room too. It is her favorite restaurant about which Rene always used to tell Elva.

But now she is just looking at the delicious steak before her as if she will do autopsy on it.

Elva asked slowly, "Rene, what happened? Is this not your liking? Should we go somewhere else?"

Rene snapped out, "ah? Oh, no no. it's nice here." She stuttered, "I, I'm happy to come here Elva. Thanks."

Elva felt awful for her. She shook her head and slowly said putting the fork and knife down, "Rene listen carefully, okay?"

Rene nodded attentively.

"Answer me, what have you been thinking this whole month?"

"I just... I don't know."

Elva felt very difficult to say, but she has to, "Rene, you can't live with memories."

Rene looked at Elva as she listened to her.

"I remembered you telling me something during our college days." Elva said slowly, "You said, you wanted someone handsome, hardworking, kind, and understanding partner for you. Can you think of how many can Shawn fulfill?"

Rene recalled saying that, and she said smiling sadly, "It was just a wishful thinking Elva. There is not such person."

Elva shook her head. She said gently, "Rene, were you not the person who won the college beauty contest back then from among three thousand students? Were you not the one who tried for that one job which was so hard, repeatedly three times and got that, right? You helped me, when I was at my lowest, helped those children in the orphanage too, you are kind aren't it? You tried to understand Shawn in every situation too, didn't you?"

"If so, when you can fulfill all of these requirements, the person you date shouldn't be someone less isn't it? Rene have you realize you settled for a worthless person?"

'WORTHLESS'

The word echoed in Rene's mind repeatedly. It hit so hard in her heart that she realized maybe 'I knew it. I knew how worthless he was, and maybe I was tired of him too. I actually can't think of any reason to love him, now that I think about it properly.'

"If you abandoned logic, you will be in that endless loop of past memories and the pain Shawn left behind. And I know you have been thinking about just these two for the whole month."

"Eat now." Elva smiled a bit.

Rene drank some water and smiled slowly. Eyes teary, she ate her food this time. She enjoyed it fully.

Elva knew, all Rene have to do is realize her own worth. She was always a reasonable person.
