It was a quiet afternoon on Taehyung’s street. The sun was warm, and the air smelled like flowers from the small garden in front of his house.
Taehyung sat on his porch, sipping iced tea. He had no special plans for the day, just relaxing after a long morning at work. Then he heard the sound of a truck. A moving truck.
He looked up and saw it stopping in front of the empty house next door. A moment later, a young man stepped out. He was tall, with black hair that caught the sunlight. His white T-shirt looked simple, but it made him seem fresh and bright.
Taehyung didn’t know why, but his heart suddenly skipped a beat. The young man walked toward the truck, talking politely to the movers. He laughed at something they said, and Taehyung thought that laugh sounded like the kind you don’t forget.
When the young man turned toward him, Taehyung quickly looked away. But it was too late the feeling had already started.
Kim Taehyung
💭 Why am I acting like this?
After a while, the young man carried a box to the porch of the new house. Then he glanced over and smiled. Taehyung felt his chest tighten.
The young man said with a little bow. Taehyung stood up, trying not to look nervous.
Jeon Jungkook
~I'm Jungkook, I just moved in.
Kim Taehyung
~I'm Taehyung, Welcome to the neighborhood.
There was a little pause in between, Taehyung didn't know what else to say, so he asked.
Kim Taehyung
~ Do you… need any help with the boxes?
Jungkook shook his head with a small smile.
Jeon Jungkook
~ I'm ok but..... maybe you can tell me where's the grocery store later.
Taehyung felt a smile grow on his lips.
Kim Taehyung
~ Sure. I can show you everything around here.
Jungkook tilted his head.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Everything?
Kim Taehyung
~ Everything's worth seeing here.
Taehyung replied, his voice a little lower.
For a second, their eyes met. There was something warm there, something neither of them spoke out loud. The movers called Jungkook, and he waved before going back to carry more boxes.
Taehyung sat down again, but his heart was still racing. The street felt different now brighter, warmer. And without meaning to, Taehyung whispered to himself, Welcome home… Jungkook.

The next morning, Taehyung woke up earlier than usual. He told himself it was just because of the sunlight, but deep down, he knew it was because of his new neighbor. He started thinking.
Kim Taehyung
💭 Should I say hello? Or would that seem too much?
He went to kitchen. After a moment, he decided to bake. Baking was safe. Baking was friendly. And it gave him a reason to knock on Jungkook’s door without looking suspicious.
By noon, Taehyung had a small plate of warm cookies. He wrapped them in clear paper and tied them with a soft ribbon. It looked nice maybe too nice. He stood in front of Jungkook’s door for a few seconds before knocking. The door opened, and there he was Jungkook, with slightly messy hair and a loose hoodie. His eyes looked soft, like he had just woken up from a nap.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Taehyung!?
Jungkook said, little surprised.
Taehyung said, suddenly feeling shy.
Kim Taehyung
~ I, um made these. Welcome to the neighborhood.
Kim Taehyung
~ Yeah, they're still warm.
Jungkook smiled and it wasn’t just polite, it was warm, thankful.
Jeon Jungkook
~ That’s really nice of you. I didn’t think anyone would… you know, do something like this.
Taehyung shrugged, pretending it was no big deal.
Kim Taehyung
~ Well… you’re my neighbor now. And… I wanted to.
For a second, Jungkook didn’t say anything. Then he opened the door wider.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Do you… want to come in? Just for a little while.
Taehyung’s heart jumped. He stepped inside, trying not to look too happy. The house was still half-filled with boxes, but it already felt cozy. Jungkook put the cookies on the table and poured them both some iced tea.
They sat together, talking about small things where Jungkook had lived before, what he liked to eat, and the quiet nature of the neighborhood. At one point, Jungkook picked up a cookie and took a bite. His eyes widened.
Jeon Jungkook
~ This is.... So good.
Kim Taehyung
~ I'm glad you like them.
Taehyung laughed softly. Jungkook looked at him for a moment, his gaze steady.
Jeon Jungkook
~ It’s been a long time since someone made me something like this.
Kim Taehyung
~ Then I'll have to do it more often.
Taehyung’s smile softened. Jungkook blinked, as if a little surprised, and then smiled again.
They talked until the tea glasses were empty and the cookies were almost gone. When Taehyung finally left, the afternoon sun was warm on his face, and his chest felt light. He didn’t know if Jungkook felt the same. But for Taehyung, the small distance between their houses now felt like the shortest distance in the world.

A few days later, Taehyung kept his promise. The afternoon sun was gentle, and the air smelled faintly of rain from the night before.
He knocked on Jungkook’s door. When Jungkook opened it, he was wearing a soft grey T-shirt and jeans, his hair slightly ruffled like he’d just run his hand through it.
Kim Taehyung
~ Ready for the grocery store?
Taehyung asked, smiling. Jungkook nodded.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Yeah. I made a list, but I’m not sure if I’ll find everything.
Kim Taehyung
~ That’s why you’ve got me. Your personal guide.
Taehyung said playfully. They started walking down the quiet street. Taehyung pointed out little things as they passed the bakery on the corner, the small park with a single bench, the shortcut to the bus stop. Jungkook listened carefully, sometimes asking small questions, sometimes just smiling at Taehyung’s words.
Halfway there, a breeze blew past them, and Jungkook reached up to fix his hair. The motion was simple, but Taehyung’s eyes followed without meaning to. He quickly looked away before Jungkook noticed.
Jeon Jungkook
~ You've lived here long?
Kim Taehyung
~ Since I was sixteen. It’s quiet… sometimes too quiet.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Guess it won’t be that quiet anymore.
The words made Taehyung’s heart jump. He wanted to say something back, but the moment felt too warm to break. When they reached the grocery store, Taehyung grabbed a basket and followed Jungkook inside. It was nothing special just the local shop but walking the aisles together felt strangely intimate.
Jungkook kept leaning toward Taehyung to show him the items on his list. Sometimes their shoulders brushed. Each time, Taehyung felt a spark. At one point, Jungkook reached for something on the top shelf and almost dropped it. Taehyung caught it just in time. Their hands touched just for a second but it was enough for both of them to glance away with shy smiles.
By the time they left the store, the sun was setting. The sky was painted with soft pink and gold.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Thanks for today. I feel like I know this place a lot better now.
Jungkook said as they walked back. Taehyung smiled.
Kim Taehyung
~ I’m glad. And… if you ever get bored, you know where to find me.
Jungkook looked at him for a moment longer than necessary, then nodded.
Jeon Jungkook
~ Yeah.... I do.
The walk back felt quieter, but not in a bad way. It was the kind of quiet where hearts spoke louder than words.
