The Devil’S Roommate
Chapter 1 – The Ad for Apartment 3B
The rain had been falling all afternoon, the kind that turned the sidewalks into tiny rivers and soaked you to the bone no matter how fast you ran.
Eliot Cruz hunched over his phone in the corner of the bus stop, scrolling through the rental listings for the tenth time today. Every decent apartment near campus was either “already taken” or “slightly above” his budget—which usually meant three times what he could afford.
Then one ad caught his eye.
Room for rent – $150/month. Utilities included. No background check. Must be okay with noise.
Eliot frowned. That was… ridiculously cheap. Either the place was a health hazard, or the landlord was desperate.
Still, his wallet was desperate too.
The contact number was handwritten at the bottom of the ad. He sent a quick text, expecting no reply. Instead, he got one almost instantly.
[3B’s available. Move in anytime. No questions asked.]
Twenty minutes later, Eliot was standing in front of an old, brick building at the edge of town.
The hallway smelled faintly like cinnamon and something… smoky. Not cigarette smoke—something warmer, spicier, almost like burning incense.
Apartment 3B’s door was half open.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Hello?” he called out, knocking lightly.
Lucien- Ml
“Come in,” a smooth voice replied.
Eliot stepped inside and stopped.
The place was nice. Too nice for the price. Warm lighting, neat furniture, even a faint jazz tune playing from somewhere. And in the middle of the room, lounging on the couch like he owned the building, was a man.
A ridiculously handsome man.
Tall, lean, black hair messy in a perfect kind of way, golden eyes that seemed to glow faintly in the lamplight. There was something… not entirely human about him, though Eliot couldn’t place it at first.
Then he noticed the horns. Small, curved, black.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Uh,” Eliot started, “are those… part of a cosplay, or…?”
Lucien- Ml
The man smirked. “You can call them whatever makes you feel safe, sugar. Name’s Lucien. Your new roommate—if you want the room.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
Something in Eliot’s gut told him to turn around and run. Instead, he found himself asking, “So… why so cheap?”
Lucien leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees.
Lucien- Ml
“Let’s just say I like having company. Human company.”
There was a weight to the word human that made Eliot’s skin prickle.
Lucien- Ml
Lucien’s smile widened. “You seem fun. Move in, and I’ll even throw in… certain perks.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
“What kind of perks?”
Lucien’s gaze dropped, lingering a moment too long before he met Eliot’s eyes again.
Lucien- Ml
“The kind you’ll thank me for later.”

Chapter 2 – The Key to Trouble
Eliot’s common sense screamed no.
His wallet whispered yes.
In the end, his wallet won.
Anyways back to the story
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Fine,” he said, trying to sound casual. “When can I move in?”
Lucien’s grin was slow and deliberate, like a cat who’d just caught a mouse.
Before Eliot could process that, Lucien reached into his pocket and tossed him a small silver key. Eliot caught it—warm to the touch, as if it had been sitting in sunlight.
Lucien- Ml
“Your room’s down the hall, second door on the left. I’ll help you with your bags.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
“I don’t have bags,” Eliot admitted.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Just a backpack.”
Lucien raised an eyebrow.
Lucien- Ml
“Traveling light… I like that.”
The hallway was cozy, with warm wooden floors and walls lined with faintly glowing candles. Eliot paused.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Do you, uh, leave candles burning all the time? Isn’t that… dangerous?”
Lucien smirked over his shoulder.
Lucien- Ml
“They don’t burn out. Perks of having me around.”
Eliot didn’t ask what that meant.
His new room was surprisingly neat—queen-sized bed, desk, wardrobe, and a big window overlooking the street. It smelled faintly of cinnamon, like the hallway.
Lucien- Ml
“You can unpack,” Lucien said, leaning on the doorframe.
Lucien- Ml
“Or… we could get to know each other first.”
Eliot eyed him suspiciously.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“What does that mean?”
Lucien tilted his head, those golden eyes gleaming.
Lucien- Ml
“I’m good at… breaking the ice.”
Lucien took a slow step forward, his voice dropping low.
Lucien- Ml
“Most people take weeks to feel comfortable around a stranger. But with me… it usually takes minutes.”
Eliot backed up slightly until the back of his legs hit the bed.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“You’re really bad at personal space.”
Lucien countered, standing just close enough that Eliot could see the faint scar above his eyebrow.
Lucien- Ml
“Or really good at it,”
A tense beat passed—then Lucien reached up, brushing a raindrop from Eliot’s hair. His touch was warm.
Lucien- Ml
“You’re shivering,” Lucien murmured.
Lucien- Ml
“We should fix that.”
Chapter 3 – Too Close for Comfort
Eliot froze, staring at Lucien’s hand still lingering in his hair.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“I’m fine,” he said quickly, stepping to the side.
Eliot Cruz- MC
“Seriously, you don’t need to—”
Lucien didn’t move back. Instead, he followed him, casual but purposeful.
Lucien- Ml
“Humans get cold easily. I could warm you up in a second.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
“You’re not… planning to set me on fire, right?” Eliot half-joked.
Before Eliot could roll his eyes, Lucien closed the small gap between them. His body radiated heat—not just the warmth of skin, but something deeper, like standing near a fireplace on a winter night.
Lucien- Ml
“See? Better already.” His voice was soft, teasing, but there was something dangerous under it.
Eliot Cruz- MC
Eliot’s pulse jumped. “You’re… really close.”
Lucien- Ml
“That’s the point, sugar.”
Lucien’s fingers brushed down from Eliot’s hair to his jaw, his thumb grazing the corner of Eliot’s lips. The touch was light, almost testing.
Lucien- Ml
“You have this look,” Lucien murmured,
Lucien- Ml
“like you’re pretending not to want to know what I’m thinking.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
“And what are you thinking?” Eliot asked before he could stop himself.
Lucien- Ml
Lucien’s smirk deepened. “That you’d taste good.”
For a second, Eliot thought he was going to kiss him.
Instead, Lucien chuckled low and stepped back, leaving a wave of heat in the space between them.
Lucien- Ml
“Relax,” he said, turning toward the door.
Lucien- Ml
“I’m not going to rush you. Half the fun is watching you squirm.”
Eliot Cruz- MC
“You’re enjoying this way too much.”
Lucien- Ml
“Of course I am.” Lucien shot him a glance over his shoulder.
Lucien- Ml
“You’re my new favorite game.”
And with that, he left the room—like nothing had happened.
Eliot sat on the bed, trying to calm his heartbeat.
Maybe moving in here had been a terrible idea.
But somewhere in the back of his mind, a voice whispered: Or maybe the best one you’ve ever had.
