chapter 1

Germany, present day The streets of Berlin were always alive, but for Lena, they felt empty. She walked alone, her feet carrying her through the familiar paths she'd taken countless times before. Her mind, however, was elsewhere, fixated on the letter she'd received just that morning. It was from him, Alexander—the one person she could always count on, the one person who understood her in ways no one else did. But Alexander was more than just a friend; he was a vampire, and she was the only human who knew his secret. The letter was brief, as Alexander's messages usually were. He had to leave, return to his family's realm in another world due to some "unavoidable matters," as he put it. Lena felt a pang of desperation wash over her. Without Alexander, she was truly alone in this city. Her parents had passed away when she was young, and she'd been shuffled from one foster home to another, never quite finding her place. Alexander had been her rock, her confidant, her protector. The thought of facing life without him, even temporarily, was daunting.

Determined, Lena quickened her pace, heading towards the old café where she and Alexander often met. She knew he would be there, preparing to leave. She had to convince him to take her with him. For Lena, there was no other option. Alexander was her only family now, and the vampire world, though mysterious and fraught with danger, seemed safer than facing the loneliness of this world without him.

As she pushed open the door to the café, the bell above it rang out, and she scanned the room. Alexander sat in their usual corner, his eyes fixed on her as she entered. Even in the dim light, his features stood out—chiseled, ethereal, and impossibly beautiful. To anyone else, he was just a handsome stranger, but to Lena, he was so much more.

With that, Lena's journey into the unknown began, a path shrouded in mystery, danger, and the eternal night that Alexander inhabited. Little did she know, her life would never be the same again, and the shadows that followed Alexander would soon become her own.

Lena stepped through the portal with Alexander, feeling a strange sensation as they transitioned from the human world to the vampire realm. The air seemed to thicken around her, and the sky took on a deep, rich purple hue. Alexander's home, a grand estate with carved stone, loomed before them.

As they entered, Alexander's family Lena saw a handsome and elegant couple, with piercing eyes and skin that seemed to glow in the soft light of the estate.

Lena got ready, dressing in attire that would allow her to blend in, and slipped out of the house.

As Lena walked through the streets of the vampire world, she couldn't help but feel a thrill of excitement mixed with a dash of fear. The moon cast an ethereal glow over the cobblestone streets, and the sound of laughter and music drifted from the shadows.

As she passed through a group of vampires, she caught their attention. Their eyes, like cold, calculating stones, locked onto hers.
