Rain and Regret
Night had swallowed the world. The sky poured down rain in thick, heavy sheets. Every drop beat on the car’s metal roof like a drum, loud and unkind. Wind rattled windows as if trying to break in. Namjoon’s small sedan creaked under the storm’s pressure.
Inside the car, he drove slowly down a dark, empty road. The windshield wipers moved fast, but they could not keep up. Water hid everything, the road’s edge, the trees, even the yellow line in the center. Streetlights were distant glows, hopeless and faint
The rain smelled of earth. It was warm, deep, and wet like everything was breathing. That smell after a long dry spell, **petrichor**, filled the air. It made him think of fresh, clean beginnings, but his mind was far from fresh ... He felt stuck, drowning in what-ifs.
Namjoon gripped the wheel so tightly that his fingers hurt. He buried his face in his hands and let his shoulders shake. Hot tears mixed with cold rain that had seeped in. He cried for what he had lost.
Memories flashed inside his mind
Jin’s soft smile, hiding deep sadness
Jin’s eyes are growing distant and cold

Lightning flashed, bright and quick. Thunder roared. Namjoon sat frozen for a moment. He closed his eyes and let it crash ...
