The city was cruel in summer — dry heat rising off concrete, mixing with the buzz of traffic and impatient footsteps.
Inside a tiny café tucked between steel skyscrapers, the air smelled like cheap espresso, vanilla syrup, and exhaustion.
Aisha Khan tugged her apron down, wiping sweat from her forehead as she placed two cups on a tray. Her hands ached.
Her manager barked an order from behind the counter.
“Table 9! Go, go!”
Aisha, twenty-three, with warm brown eyes and oil-smudged sneakers, didn’t complain. She needed this job. Every tip counted — for her little sister’s school fees, for rent, for keeping the lights on.
She never noticed the man watching her from the doorway.
Until everything went still.
The café’s door swung open, and in stepped a man who didn’t belong. Not here.
He wore a jet-black suit, perfectly fitted. His dark hair was slicked back, and he moved like he owned the air around him.
People noticed. Conversations paused. Even the barista dropped a spoon.
He walked forward with silent command.
And stopped directly in front of her.

The man’s voice was smooth but icy. Like velvet hiding a blade.

Before she could speak, he turned and walked out, the café door swinging behind him.

As the doors slid open, the air itself felt richer — laced with silence and power. The kind that didn’t need to be spoken.
She walked nervously behind a sharply dressed assistant, heels echoing down a hallway lined with gold-framed abstract art.

What am I doing here?
I’m just a waitress. This is a mistake. A sick joke.
The assistant pushed open a massive door, and there he was — seated behind a glass desk, backlit by floor-to-ceiling windows.
Rafael Morgan- The same cold eyes. The same unreadable expression.

(Calmly) Sit.
Aisha hesitated, then obeyed.

I assume you read the letter.

(Whispers) I don’t understand it.

He slid a thick file across the desk.

Aisha stared at the contract.

Your sister’s tuition. Your mother’s medical bills. All handled. Sign it… and you never have to struggle again.
She felt her chest tighten.
