Title: Cherry Blossoms in Autumn
Pairing: Ray Kon x Mariah Wong
Setting: After the BEGA arc, back in China
The wind rustled through the golden leaves of the White Tiger temple grounds, scattering petals from the late-blooming cherry blossoms Mariah had planted last spring. It wasn’t the right season for them, but somehow, a few still clung to the branches—defying nature. Just like her feelings.
Ray stood near the training grounds, the sunset outlining his silhouette. He hadn’t changed much—still calm, still graceful, still focused. But there was something different in his eyes. Something that made Mariah’s heart flutter and ache all at once.
She walked toward him, pretending not to notice the way he turned ever so slightly, always aware of her presence.
“You’re leaving again,” she said, not as a question, but a quiet accusation.
Ray nodded, a soft sigh escaping his lips. “Just for a few weeks. Mr. Dickenson wants me to help with a new tournament overseas.”
“Of course he does,” she muttered, folding her arms. “You’re Ray Kon. Leader of the White Tigers. Bladebreaker champion. Global beyblading hero.”
He turned to face her now, eyes narrowing slightly. “Is that how you see me?”
Mariah hesitated, unsure whether to tease or confess. “No,” she finally said, voice gentler. “I see the boy who taught me how to braid a tiger’s tail. The boy who used to sneak dumplings with me during Grandfather’s lectures. The boy who—”
She cut herself off.
Ray stepped closer, the distance between them evaporating like mist.
“I see you too, Mariah,” he said softly. “Not just the fierce White Tiger. I see the girl who stayed behind, who held this team together while I chased tournaments. I see the one who smiled for everyone, even when you didn’t feel like it.”
Mariah blinked rapidly. “You always know what to say.”
“I never know what to say,” he corrected. “I just—feel it. Especially when it comes to you.”
A cherry blossom petal drifted down between them, landing in Mariah’s hair. Without thinking, Ray reached out and brushed it away, his fingers lingering just a second too long.
“You’re not just leaving again, are you?” she asked.
Ray hesitated. “No,” he whispered. “I’m asking you to come with me.”
Mariah’s breath caught.
“Not because I want a teammate,” he said. “Not because you’re a great blader. Not even because I miss you when you’re not around.”
He took her hand, holding it between his.
“But because I’m tired of walking this path without you.”
The sun dipped below the mountains, casting them in gold.
Mariah smiled, eyes glassy with emotion. “Then stop asking, Ray Kon. You already had me.”
End.
