The Guide to Capturing a Black Lotus

chapter no. 1

A girl clothed in red sat in front of the makeup station.

Her full head of soft hair was held in place with a sparkling phoenix head ornament. Its mouth held a pearl, which dangled on her bright and clean forehead.

A red camellia was inserted next to her temple. The petals were somewhat withered. It wasn't freshly picked from the garden, rather, it had been picked from a flower pot that afternoon.

The garden was already devoid of flowers.

The night was as dark as ink. The sound of thunder was akin to the roar of a beast. Lightning, thunder and heavy rain all amalgamated into a deafening symphony of raindrops crashing onto the ground. She knew even without thinking, that the flowers that weren't under a cover would be struck onto the ground by the rain and the ground would soon be covered by torn and tattered petals.

.............

Jutting joints on thin fingers touched the wilted petals. She thought, No matter how much of a hurry I'm in, I should still be somewhat merry.

The person in the mirror smiled weakly.

I'm getting married today.

Her smile widened but her snow white complexion suddenly froze. In the blink of an eye, her expression turned into a lifeless mask. In the next moment, her facial muscles started moving again and her smile started to fade away.

Foolish eyes revealed a curious yet calm light.

Ling Miaomiao slouched into her chair as she carefully examined the face in the mirror: Pale-white skin, slender eyebrows, large round eyes, thin lips and a sharp but thin chin.

They had the appearance of a jade beauty from a humble household. If those glistening, lustrous eyes were a little closer together, she could have become a fox-like beauty with eyes that could electrify people, and even walk the path of becoming a country-toppling beauty. It was unfortunate that Ling Yu's eyes were a little too far apart.

They gave people a sense of warmth and an illusion of harmlessness. Even if she glared and narrowed her eyes, it only made her look pitifully cute.

Ling Miaomiao sighed, I don't have the fate of becoming a female lead, I can see it just from this face.

She lightly stroked her chin as she knit her brows.

Ling Yu was too skinny. So skinny that it made people feel discomfited just bylooking at her. Since time immemorial, full-bodied women were considered to have good fortune. According to what the old generations say, this face of hers meant she had a miniscule amount of fortune and a short-lived existence.

Ling Miaomiao stood up, allowing the red marriage dress to cascade down the ground. The bronze mirror in front of her, blurrily reflected her figure.

Her marriage had been set up in a hurry, and she'd no idea where this wedding dress came from. It didn't fit her at all. Silver needles were used to compartmentalize her waist and the cuffs were much too big, it went past her hands. Wearing the dress on herself, the golden embroidery was hidden in the folds and couldn't be seen clearly.

Ling Yu was skinny like a bean sprout. She had been used to lowering her head and slouching her shoulders forward, so she looked very cowardly.

Miaomiao forcefully straightened her back, and looked at the mirror through the corner of her eye. Seeing a frowning, impatient face staring right back at her, she became startled and immediately tried to smoothen her eyebrows. Perhaps her first impression of Ling Yu was so bad, she also naturally moved this dislike onto her body. She definitely couldn't let this go on.

In this day and age, humans traveling to parallel universes was already a commonly seen phenomenon. Any random occurrence in a person's life could cause a person to travel to another dimension. As for why Ling Miaomiao transmigrated into this world, she had stayed up till midnight writing a review for a novel.

This novel was written by the melodrama romance queen Floating Boat, titling it as her gorgeous transformation piece and 10 year comeback. It was a Xuanhuan novel called .

When she was an ignorant youth, Ling Miaomiao had been tricked into letting out countless tears for the 'even death cannot break our love' melodramatic stories. After ten years, for the sake of reminiscence, she stayed up all night reading Floating Boat's work. Yet what she got in return was waking up in the middle of night in her room and a "WTF!?"

What gorgeous transformation?! Under the shallow surface of the world of , it was all completely the same! The three women that loved the male lead fought with their might and their wits, and the second male lead that liked the femalelead only had unrequited love. Several series of misunderstandings cropped up between the male and female lead. They were a pair of mandarin ducks that had an inseparable love that lasted through countless conspiracies and ploys, their feelings becoming as tangled as a ball of wool.

With this frustration in tow, Ling Miaomiao brought out her keyboard to write a review. Before she wrote it though, she carefully picked out a representative character to use as a point with which to cut in through.

If one could consider causing anger in readers as a success, female number three, Ling Yu, would've been considered a smashing success.

Because she was bad.

But her 'badness' wasn't exactly

Stereotypical. She was used to acting as a victim, biting the hand that fed her, backstabbing, and putting on a poor, pitiful act.

This character was completely timid and gloomy. She loved the male lead yet didn't dare to compete with the female lead directly. Other than pervertedly fantasizing about obtaining the male lead, all she did was insidiously plot, harm and drive wedges between the female and male lead.

If villainess woman number two was a proud and powerful tigress, she could be said to be akin to a rat that sneakily bit ankles or the insects that eat through rice buckets.1

..........

On one hand, she enjoyed the protection of the main leads, but at the same time, she tried to undermine them. She was like wet and moist mold that grew in the walls, gloomy and difficult to peel off.

This kind of 'fantastic' personality caused Ling Miaomiao to feel disgusted. In comparison, she felt that the arrogant, pampered and spoiled woman number two, Duanyang Diji's straightforwardness was extremely cute.

As cannon fodder, Ling Yu's destiny naturally didn't look too great. Her road to affection was especially rocky.

She was married off twice in her life. The first time, she put on a play with the man she loved with all her heart, Liu Fuyi, to pretend to get married. But before she could revel in her situation, her dream was abruptly crushed.

The second time, she was married to the female lead, Mu Yao's younger brother, Mu Sheng.

The door creaked as it was pushed open.

A servant girl stood by the door as she folded up her umbrella, the corners of her clothes dripping with rainwater. She spoke shakily, like a little chick, "Young Miss, the time has arrived."

The servant girl's face was ashen and her hand shook slightly. It was evident that she was extremely terrified.

Miaomiao made a sound in agreement before hurriedly wiping a smear of lipstick carelessly onto her lips. Then, she held onto the servant girl's dripping wet sleeves and walked out.

The oil paper umbrella was nearly unable to bear the fierce rain. The rainwater converged into a line and little rivulets of water flowed down from the umbrella. The hand with which the little servant girl was holding the umbrella with, was trembling. And with every tremble she made, some of the rain water splashed onto Miaomiao's thin and flimsy wedding dress. Very soon, her shoulder was completely drenched.

Miaomiao was unhappy and took the umbrella from the servant girl. The big umbrella securely covered the little servant girl's head.

They followed the winding path with no words spoken, until Miaomiao broke the silence, "Can you see it?"

.............

"...mhm." The servant girl closely stuck herself onto Miaomiao's side. Her tone was full of grief as she spoke, "Young Miss... Young Miss you aren't scared...? That 'thing'... is so scary...."

Apart from the widowed, there wouldn't be anyone else who'd have their marriage ceremony at night. Perhaps even if they were a widow, they still wouldn't choose such a thunderous and raining night.

It was because this marriage was, from the beginning, just a play.

This should be the time when Liu Fuyi invited Ling Yu as a bride, with the goal of drawing out a Great Demon.

Mu Yao and Liu Fuyi had both been staying at Taicang for a month now.

Even though Taicang County was small, it was very affluent. The number of rich and wealthy people there were aplenty. Outsiders racked their heads trying to find a way to settle down there.

However, starting from a month ago, several newly wedded couples disappeared before they could enter the bridal chamber. Rumors say that people saw a demon appear and leave. The rumors permeated everywhere and panic quickly settled into this little town.

For a time, nobody in Taicang County dared to conduct a marriage ceremony.

Marriage was, however, a common matter and putting it off constantly was not a solution. The County Mayor, Ling Lushan, who originally didn't believe in the supernatural, stuck out his potbelly in worry for three days. In the end, he had no other choice but to make an announcement to start recruiting capable exorcists.

.........

The original book's male lead Liu Fuyi and female lead Mu Yao reached this place while traveling. They were unwilling to let others take on the responsibility so they stayed behind to help the people eliminate the danger.

On the day they were to capture the demon, the two stayed in the Mayor's residence, which was also the family of the host's body, Ling Yu.

On the third day after the group of protagonists arrived, the demon took the initiative to send themselves to the front door.

It possessed the body of the Mayor's beloved daughter, Ling Yu.

The sixteen year old Ling Yu was unwilling to get a husband. During the day, she acted normally, but when night came around, she would always dress herself up and act as if she was about to be married off. She'd worship heaven and earth in the empty hall, appearing as though she was possessed.

With Liu Fuyi guarding at the side, the moment Ling Yu "entered the bridal room", he took out a Nine Mysterious Demon Restraining Pagoda and quickly forced the Fox Demon that possessed Ling Yu's body to show its true form.

The Fox Demon had originally planned to suck away their life force but was forced to show its true body. Its expression wasmalevolent and its claws fully outstretched. It hissed loudly before it charged at the unarmed Mu Yao.

Mu Yao, an experienced and trained Demon Hunter, had been calm and patient. At that moment, Liu Fuyi had picked up the victim lying on the ground, Ling Yu. He was just like an immortal stepping down from the clouds, saving her from the illusion she was in.

As Ling Yu laid in his arms, she had the first taste of her heart beating fast.

"Creak--" A crack appeared from the door.

The servant girl jumped back a few steps out of fear. Miaomiao watched her quivering appearance and felt it a bit unbearable, "You can go first. I'll enter by myself..."

The servant girl retreated a step, before collapsing onto a puddle of water butt-first.

Ling Miaomiao couldn't remember the details in the book. She pumped herself up as she pushed open the door empty-handed.

Liu Fuyi's jade-like back figure faced her and he clearly looked very relaxed. Underneath his marriage robes, the corners of his usual white clothes stuck out. It was apparent that he merely casually found a random set of marriage robes.

Sigh, the other party only treated this as an insignificant play yet the pitiful original host was so excited she couldn't sleep all night.

Liu Fuyi heard the sound of her entrance

And turned around. His countenance appeared truly breathtaking.

The original book had written that Liu Fuyi's body was weak, and as a result, he was thin and his complexion was always pale. Yet, for this same reason, he had a thread of immortal-like aura around him.

He was warm and gentle, but his expression couldn't hide a streak of melancholy.

Liu Fuyi was just like the description in the book, both affable yet untouchable. He truly was the type of person to cause girls to get distracted. However, after taking two glances at Liu Fuyi, she had lost all interest. The author was the one who created the world of , and she had it set in stone that Liu Fuyi belonged to Mu Yao. No matter how warmly he treated someone else, in this world, there wouldn't be any sort of story development down that road.

Liu Fuyi broke the silence, "Miaomiao."

Miaomiao trembled from shock, "What did you just call me?"

Liu Fuyi knit his brows and spoke with a little hesitation, "If I remember correctly, your childhood name was Miaomiao...."

"Oh......" Ling Miaomiao stretched out the word. She was a bit unhappy that she and Ling Yu both shared the same name. "It is Miaomiao, Miaomiao is right... you said it all of a sudden, I couldn't react in time."

Liu Fuyi gave a faint smile, "Today is our wedding day, we should call each other more intimately.

With the male lead saying such endearing words, it really caused one's bones to soften.

Miaomiao looked into Liu Fuyi's eyes and could see clear expectations within.

Good, the male lead had taken the lead, reminding her to completely act out this play.

"Fuyi." She cleverly called his name and saw gratification flash through his eyes before he walked over to her.

However, a thread of doubt suddenly appeared in her heart, "Wait!"

chapter no. 2

Liu Fuyi paused in confusion.

Miaomiao searched around her waist before taking out a walnut-sized embroidered red ball. She rolled it up before tossing it over. The ball crashed into his abdomen before it fell to the ground next to his feet.

Liu Fuyi was stunned by this action of hers.

"Throw it back to me, quickly." She urged him as a layer of thin sweat surfaced on her forehead.

Liu Fuyi bent his waist to pick up that small embroidered ball, the red tassels on the ball dragging against his pale hand. He carefully scrutinized it before his expression grew more serious.

"Quickly!" Ling Miaomiao's ears perked up as she tried to listen for any movement inside the room.

He lightly tossed it up and the embroidered ball flew towards Ling Miaomiao. While in the air, it seemed to hit something and rebounded back to the ground near Liu Fuyi's feet.

Liu Fuyi's expression immediately changed, there was an invisible barrier separating the two!

One could enter but not leave. If any of the two were to walk towards the other, who would know if they would be like the embroidered ball: Unknowingly getting pulled into the invisible boundary.

Miaomiao spoke deliberately, "Fuyi... we might not be in the same place at all."

The original book's setting here was truly complicated.

As a pragmatic Mathematics major, when Ling Miaomiao read up to this point she tried to consider all the possibilities.

However, no matter how she thought about it, she couldn't figure it out. When she drew out the scene and seriously considered all possible factors, she finally came to the conclusion that: Floating Boat didn't properly learn physics.

She had tried to describe the invisible

'boundary' yet only used: a strange swallowing force to describe it.

As a faithful reader, Ling Miaomiao tried her best to find a reasonable explanation: She and Liu Fuyi could both see each other because they were in two spaces that had been merged together.

In truth, they could possibly just be on two ends of the same room. Their backs could be facing each other.

There was a force that twisted the space around them. The invisible barrier between them was the twisted boundary between the two spaces.

As soon as someone passed through, the boundary would quickly turn into a wall-like existence, locking both people in one space.

Ling Miaomiao suddenly heard eerie noises coming from inside the room. It sounded like a burst of water coming from the north vents.

Liu Fuyi was sharp, instantly reacting to Miaomiao's single sentence.

He listened intently, becoming extremely serious when he heard her say with a low voice, "It's coming!"

The space in-between Miaomiao and Liu Fuyi suddenly started to quiver then slowly start to tremble. It was just like rainwater sliding down a glass window. Shapes started to appear on it and surprisingly it was a scene of her and Liu Fuyi standing near each other with the exception of an empty background, as if fog had consumed everything.

Opposite her, Liu Fuyi opened his mouth but his voice sounded blunted, as if something was separating them. His calm voice brought with it some bewilderment, "Miaomiao, I can't see you anymore."

Can't see? In front of her, she could see that she and Liu Fuyi were standing shoulder to shoulder. Ling Miaomiao raised her head and the girl in the scene before her raised her head slightly. Miaomiao smiled and the Miaomiao in the scene also smiled. Next to her however, Liu Fuyi's eyes were dark and his expression was full of wariness, just like a tightly drawn bow.

"Fuyi, I'm right here. I can see myself and I can see you too."

Miaomiao saw that Liu Fuyi contemplated for a moment before his expression relaxed. A light flashed through his eyes as he said, "Do you know what 'it' is?"

The water curtain in front of Miaomiao shook and ripples started to appear. Miaomiao snickered mentally. You old demon, I'm smarter than you, you mad?

A hint of laughter appeared in Liu Fuyi's eyes. A face that originally held a sense of untouchable holiness somehow put on a fresh proud expression. He then took out the Nine Mysterious Demon Restraining Pagoda and held it in the palm of his right hand. Then, with his left hand, he started to draw several inscriptions in the air with rapid succession.

Ling Miaomiao stared unblinkingly at that pagoda. So the male lead's golden finger was so small, it was just about the size of his palm. It had about seven layers and it looked like a toy some kid had made by piling some leftover pieces of wood atop each other.

Can this toy really restrain this supernatural demon?

Liu Fuyi then rapidly chanted a string of mnemonic chants in a low yet rapid voice. She couldn't clearly hear what he was saying except for the last two words when he raised his voice at the end: "... Water mirror!"

Ah, this genius male lead Liu Fuyi really wasn't your average guy!

This 'invisible barrier' really was in truth, just a mirror.

All those newlyweds of Taicang County lost their lives to this mirror.

According to the original book, this water mirror was the work of an ancient demon king. After having been immersed in demonic Qi for a long time, it gained spiritual cognition. Thus, possessing the ability to move.

It didn't have a human form but it was evil. It continuously swallowed humans to satisfy its desires.

A hundred years ago, it had pretended to be a vanity mirror. It swallowed up many women that used it before it was sealed by a daoist who was passing through..

The daoist that sealed it didn't have a way to completely exterminate this dangerous mirror so after racking his brains for a solution, he settled on sealing it instead.

The daoist was an egotistical priest who liked to delve into mathematical conundrums in his free time. After struggling against the mirror for half a day, he finally came up with this rule: Only if a person takes a step that measures three meters, and faces the mirror, will they have a chance to be swallowed.

The daoist was immensely proud of himself, which normal person would take a three meter long step? No matter how capable the water mirror was, it was only an one-sided mirror. When they passed through the mirror, they would be behind the mirror, how could they possibly see their reflection? How could it possibly swallow anyone?

"Double insurance, I'm a genius." As he thought all this, he mounted his donkey feeling quite proud of himself and left.

After Ling Miaomiao had read this, she thought to herself:

As long as the mirror bends itself down, turning itself into a double sided mirror, and gets people to pass through it... wouldn't everything be over?

She only dared to silently ponder. As readers, one should be more lenient on the struggling authors' mess ups. In any case, the mainstay of this novel was focused on love, hate and drama. There was no need to pay any particular heed to these details.

After the water mirror passed through a hundred years of earnest experimentation, it finally discovered a way to swallow people.

It chose the moment the couple would enter the bridal room, when the two people were standing more than 3 meters away from it, to instantly move the space, creating the false scene of two people standing face to face, and it itself will hide in the crevice between the two spaces.

Just like what had happened to her and Fuyi a moment ago, if something had passed through the mirror in a 3 meter long step, the water mirror would've twisted the space back to its original state.

The edges of the space were very ambiguous, to the point that if you were to say that it was one, you could also say that it was two. As long as the water mirror bent around the side with nobody in it, once a person passes through the mirror and looks at one of the mirror's faces, they will be sucked in by the mirror. Those who try to save the lovers will have space twisted once again by the water mirror. It will shrink the three meter long distance into a single step and these people will step through the mirror in one smooth motion. It won't even let go of those trying to rescue them.

The water mirror was only a low ranked monster yet it was able to think of such a remarkable method. Ling Miaomiao couldn't help but feel impressed by it. She was even somewhat reluctant to think of killing it.

The wood pagoda suddenly flew out of Fuyi's palm and rapidly enlarged, casting a huge shadow from atop their heads.

In the next instant, the water mirror in front of Miaomiao shattered, rapidly turning into a tornado of glass shards. It headed towards the door in a bid to escape from the chasing wooden pagoda.

The twisted space returned to normal and she saw Liu Fuyi's shadow. He was only 3 meters away from her, with his back faced towards her. Liu Fuyi turned around and looked her in the eyes. There was a hint of astonishment in his eyes, "Miaomiao, you're much more intelligent and courageous than I'd thought."

"I don't dare." Miaomiao pondered for a moment, thinking about what Ling Yu's reaction might've been. Then, according to the original host's personality, she lowered her head and replied in a shy and bashful tone, "Brother Liu, you're praising me wrongly."

Liu Fuyi was somewhat astonished but he immediately smiled, "Did you get injured?"

Miaomiao shyly shook her head before looking at him coquettishly, making Liu Fuyi at a loss for words.

After a while, he deliberated before saying, "Miss Ling, can you dispel my confusion? Just now we didn't pass through the water mirror and reasonably, we should've been on the front and back sides of the mirror. Why could you still see the scene of the both of us standing close together?"

"I guess it's because the old monster cut itself in half, exposing your silhouette. What I saw was my inverted image and the real you. Over on your side, I was blocked by the water mirror..."

Liu Fuyi's eyebrows leapt up as he naturally continued her words: "What I saw was the back of the water mirror so I couldn't see you. It pieced the scene together to entice you into checking out the mirror..." He couldn't help but reveal another slight smile, "So that's how it is. It was extremely clever."

Miaomiao smiled at him, Liu Fuyi's IQ was very high. If he were to undergo modern education, he would definitely become a prodigy. Much more impressive than her, who struggled to pass her exams.

"Oh yeah, where's Mu Yao?" Miaomiao followed Liu Fuyi out as she yawned and showed a bit of concern.

The heavy rain outside had already stopped, only leaving behind puddles of mirror-like water.

"Yao'er?" Liu Fuyi's expression was a little strange, "Yao'er was heavily injured and hasn't woken up yet. Isn't she currently resting in the east sideroom?"

East sideroom!

Ling Miaomiao buzzed for a second, as if she was struck in the head with a bat. In just a moment, the blurry memories came rushing back in like a tsunami, immediately filling up all of her missing memories.

Oh my god! Even though she only just entered the book's world and her mind still hadn't wrapped itself around this fact... how could she possibly forget about this point in the plot!

to be continue...

chapter no. 3

The parallel world's 'system' had informed her that if she wanted to return home, she had to complete two missions in the world:

Mission 1: Follow the original Ling Yu's plotline and create obstacles in between the feelings of the male and female lead.

Mission 2: Get the female lead's brother, Mu Sheng, who's infatuated with the female lead, to fall in love with Ling Yu.

She didn't even want to mention how these two missions were so vehement about -- Wait. The system suddenly sent her a message in it's mechanical voice: "Mission Reminder: Mission 1. One-fourth complete. This time, the rest of the mission will be given as an example gift to the

host. Mission complete."

Example gift? Miaomiao was momentarily dumbfounded.

Mission 1? Oh right, it's to bully the female lead... which is to say that before she even needed to create any trouble, the system already helped her do it. The blame was still on her though.

Ling Miaomiao wanted to cry but didn't have any tears to shed.

The book's entire plot went something like this:

That day, Liu Fuyi used the Nine Mysterious Demon Restraining Pagoda to force out the fox demon in Ling Yu's body and then picked up the unconscious Ling Yu. The utterly discomfited fox demon then threw itself at Mu Yao, who then restrained the fox demon. It was in this fight that she had gotten heavily injured.

The fox demon had already died, yet more new people still went missing. It was then that the protagonist's squad discovered that the true culprit was something else.

The true culprit preferred to act when couples got married. For the sake of drawing out the true culprit, which was that shattered water mirror just now, Liu Fuyi put on this play of a fake marriage ceremony. Which then led to everything that happened just now.

As for the reason why Liu Fuyi could only find another girl to put on this show, it was entirely because Mu Yao was heavily injured and couldn't get out of the bed!

The night they were making their attempt, Fuyi settled the unconscious Mu Yao properly before tightly closing the doors and windows of the west sideroom. Only after drawing a sealing talisman did he feel at ease leaving his beloved woman alone in the room.

But what did Ling Yu do? After Liu Fuyi left, she sneakily wiped away the talisman runes on the walls and ripped the talisman on the door into pieces.

She left the unconscious Mu Yao laying in the unprotected west sideroom!

Miaomiao's expression turned bitter: Ling Yu was borrowing a knife to kill Mu Yao!

Sigh, she was secretly in love with Liu Fuyi but there was already a beautiful and outstanding Mu Yao beside him. If Mu Yao were to die after being heavily injured by that demon...

...if Mu Yao were to die... this marriage ceremony wouldn't be so fake anymore and she would become his bride...

"Miaomiao?" Fuyi grabbed ahold of her arm, and moved slightly closer. His face was full of concern, "Are you ok? Do you feel unwell?" Ling Miaomiao subconsciously maintained a distance between them but remembered all the things that would occur later on and immediately stuck herself closer to him. Her face was pale as she grabbed Liu Fuyi's hand.

Liu Fuyi felt uncomfortable and naturally dodged backwards.

"Mu Yao..." The emotion in her eyes almost completely changed from fright to pleading, "Go take a look at Mu Yao!"

Liu Fuyi's expression eased somewhat. Then, like he was trying to placate a frightened child, he assuaged: "Mu Yao is fine. I drew a talisman on her door..."

It was useless... by the time Ling Miaomiao entered the book world, the original Ling Yu had already destroyed them.

As the water mirror was chased till it had nowhere else to go, it charged towards the seemingly defenseless west sideroom. Mu Yao would wake up from her unconscious state, feeling a heavy demonic aura beside her, then she would force her weak body to fight with the water mirror as her strength grew weaker and weaker.

And when she was on the verge of life and death, Mu Sheng, who'd gone out to pick herbs would return...

Thinking of her second mission's target, Mu Sheng, Miaomiao's heart shuddered.

That was the original Ling Yu's second husband, but was also her eternal nightmare.

"I feel extremely panicked, I'm afraid that Mu Yao is in danger. Can we go over right now?" Miaomiao nearly cried.

As an outsider, the system stipulated that she must enter her role and couldn't expose herself. She could only do two things: Try to patch things up or pass the blame to someone else.

Liu Fuyi felt that this mayor's young miss's temperament was quite strange. However, he maintained a warm character as always and only tried to advise her: "It's late. You should go back and sleep. I'll go take a look at Yao'er."

"You should go now." Miaomiao still stubbornly continued.

Fuyi helplessly smiled, "I'll first go take a look and see if the Demon Restraining Pagoda has captured the water mirror yet."

This man wasn't listening to her! Miaomiao roared in her mind.

"Then tell Mu Sheng to quicken his return, Mu Yao is a woman and she's currently injured. You guys can't leave her by herself!"

Liu Fuyi was stunned for a moment before smiling and patting her head, "Alright."

This seemingly intimate action nearly blew Ling Miaomiao's top. Ling Yu was 16 this year yet he was this conceited! He completely treated her earnest advice like the words of a child!

Liu Fuyi saw Miaomiao give him a death glare and could only helplessly tear apart a communication talisman under her eyes. "A' Sheng, where are you? I'm going to deal with the demon, you should hurry back and look after Yao'er."

After he finished talking, he put the talisman into Miaomiao's palm, a helpless expression on his face. It was as if his face said: Is this good enough?

This won't work. Miaomiao sighed. If she were to calculate the time they've wasted already, by the time Mu Sheng rushes back, Mu Yao would have already fought the water mirror.

"It's late. Miss Ling, you've done a lot already. I'll send you back to sleep." Liu Fuyi warmly proposed.

She wrapped her clothes tighter: "Let's go take a look first..."

Her palm grew warm all of a sudden, the talisman combusting into flames. Under the purple lights, the yellowish talisman paper turned into black ash in the blink of an eye.

Liu Fuyi's expression immediately changed, and in the next moment, both of them heard the sound of thunder shattering through the sky.

Thunder lingered in the horizon, and dark clouds started to drift over.

Immediately following that was the intense sounds of fighting. In the distance, the sounds of the water mirror on its death throes mixed with the delicate shouts of a girl.

The sound had come from the West Sideroom. From Ling Miaomiao's trembling teeth came a sentence: "It's Mu... Mu Yao!"

Liu Fuyi didn't say anything further and merely turned around, flying over rapidly.

Ling Miaomiao picked up the ends of the dress and tried to follow but the host's body was really just too delicate and weak. Before she had even taken two steps, her breath started to waver. The ill-form fitting wedding dress was trampled under her feet. She was just slightly careless and caused herself to trip over, falling with a splash into a puddle.

Ling Miaomiao felt dreadful as she wiped off the muddy water. She crawled up in one motion, picked up her dress and started walking towards the west sideroom again.

According to the plot, Ling Yu who was delighted and full of expectations of getting married to Fuyi would see him toss her to the side and dash towards Mu Yao. It was like she fell from heaven to hell in an instant. Dazed, she chased themto the west sideroom only to see the male lead embracing the female lead and repeatedly comforting her. The bitterness and jealousy in her heart nearly reached the horizons.

Everytime Ling Yu appeared in a scene, she couldn't miss out on being present either.

Under the pitch black night sky, the west sideroom's surroundings were as bright as day. From far away, one could see a gigantic pagoda floating in the air with countless rays of glimmering light shooting out from the bottom.

The windows on every floor glowed with a golden light. The delicate pagoda before had become this flying machine-like colossus. It was quite astonishing.

Liu Fuyi's silhouette flashed and he entered the courtyard.

Miaomiao immediately followed up. The west sideroom was brightly lit up by the countless rays of light. The roof was broken and broken tiles and rain fell down through.

The water mirror's shattered pieces were like a current, congealing into a water dragon. It was very pleased with itself as the rays of light reflected off of it, showing a weak and delicate silhouette.

That silhouette was Mu Yao. Her appearance made it clear that she was completely spent, shaking and swaying with countless wounds all over her body.

With how she shook, Mu Yao's situation looked dire.

Liu Fuyi had not moved, a calm expression covered his face as he drew runes. In an instant, the Nine Mysterious Demon Restraining Pagoda spun and descended, brilliant flames burning the water mirror as the air was rend with an increasingly mournful screech.

Mu Yao didn't have enough strength. She supported her arm as the water mirror threw itself around with its life on the life. In a blink, she was about to make a heavy attack.

In that instant, a goose yellow shadow flew through the air like a whirlwind as it barged over.

That person's wrists spun and twisted and dazzled one's eyes. Suddenly, several sparks exploded on the shattered water mirror. Loud crackling noises erupted as the water mirror instantly blew apart, meteor-like streams of smoke falling towards the earth.

This was the Demon Hunter world's Mu family's most iconic exploding sparks. It didn't require talismans or runes to use and its power was tremendous.

Ling Miaomiao scampered about as she dodged the pieces of glass falling from the sky. Looking up at the sky-using Exploding Sparks as soon as they arrived, that goose yellow figure must have been Mu Sheng.

He was nominally Mu Yao's younger brother yet he had a perverse infatuation with Mu Yao, acting naive and kind hearted only in front of her. He simply was just putting on a white lily act to attract others' pity. When in truth, his personality was dark, vicious and extremely vindictive.

In other words, he was a very deeply hidden scheming 'Two-faced' person. He pretended to be naive but actually concealed a 'Black Lotus' on the inside. Other than his non-blood-related sister, he couldn't care less about anyone else.

Miaomiao felt that this somewhat yandere personality brought with it some tension. It could be considered a breakthrough of sorts for the old hand at romantic fiction, the author, Floating Boat.

However, admiring this character was far different from liking this gloomy youngster in real life.

Especially since that black-hearted author paired the black lotus Mu Sheng up with Ling Yu. Mu Sheng obviously didn't care for Ling Yu. Being rejected after showing his true emotions to his sister, Mu Sheng turned completely blackened and vented all of his anger and resentment onto Ling Yu who had been tripping Mu Yao up in the dark.

He hypocritically got close to Ling Yu and after their marriage, started to torment and torture her unbridledly. He was completely unscrupulous and even poisoned her with a love gu, causing her to be unable to tell anyone else.

Ling Yu, who was trapped in a helpless situation, was quickly tormented to the point that her hair turned grey. She was always in a dazed state. She had reaped what she sowed, she was guilty and earned her punishment.

Ling Miaomiao couldn't help but shiver, her back feeling cold. She subconsciously straightened her neck and looked up.

That smear of goose yellow was like lightning, scattering apart the dark and gloomy clouds. Both fast and severe. His entrance wasn't dark nor was it bright. It was a fresh and beautiful goose yellow.

This Mu Sheng was someone whose outside was akin to sweet frosting. Yet on the inside, a blade lay.

[1] Borrowing a knife to kill: Basically means she's setting up/causing someone to lose greatly/die indirectly. As in, she uses someone/something else to accomplish her own goals. Sorry... bad explanation.

[2] A' Sheng: Similar to Yao-chan or Yao'er. Basically an endearing way of saying someone's name.

[3] Love Gu: Gu is an ancient chinese art/skill that uses all sorts of bizarre bugs and organisms to control/poison/kill/threaten victims. >.> I don't think I should put example pictures here, y'all go google if you're that interested.
