Haylee-
I was on my way to the dorm room trying to remember the number. How could I possibly forget what the assistant just told me? I went to the check in desk looking for someone so I could figure out what the room number was. Just then a young woman walked out from around the corner coming up to the desk. “Yes, how may I help you?” She asked looking up at me expectedly. “Oh, uh right, sorry, was looking for my dorm room but I forgot my room number, is there a way you could”- before I could finish I was cut off, “Oh yes! I can help you with that, no problem. Can you give me your first and last name, and your age please?”
“Okay, my first name is Haylee and my last name is Brooks, and I’m currently only 17.” I said while slouching a little. “Okay let me just pull you up..and..oh yes I found you! Your room number is 409.” She said smiling. I feel my face scrunch up, wasn’t that the boys dorms? Yeah 400-425 was the boys and 300-325 was the girls dorms. “Uhm excuse me isn’t that the boys dorms?” I say raising a eyebrow in confusion.
“Ah yes, there was a slight delay in the girls dorm rooms so we had to put you in with the boys dorms. I hope you understand, we’ll let you know when there’s a free dorm open. But it’s unlikely one will just randomly open up.” I sigh, “Okay whatever, thanks.” I say and start walking towards the boys dormitory.
“Ugh what a pain in the ass..” I was trying to make my way through tons of people through this tiny hallway. Couldn’t they make a hallway that wasn’t so damn small? As I was walking dragging my suitcase along with me, I tripped falling into something, something hard, something big. Then out of no where I feel someone’s arms drape around me. This is a person. Relation dawned on me. I pulled away looking up at a man who looked about in his twenty’s, dark brown hair, and a body I could stare at all day. What muscles this guy has, he must work out. And those eyes there so..so mesmerizing, but yet there so dark almost like a black hole swirling around, but somehow I can’t stop staring into them.
“Are you just gonna keep staring at me kid or what? I mean I know I’m handsome so I don’t blame you.” He said while smirking. Ugh this guy. “I wasn’t staring at you I was just...analyzing your face.” He gives a harsh laugh. “Analyzing? Good one kid good one.” I roll my eyes, who does this guy think he is?
“Anyway what are you doing in the boys dormitory area? It’s not safe for a small girl like you. I mean look at this hallway.” I huff, “First of all I’m not small, second I got put in with the boys dorms..not that it’s any of your business.” He crosses his arms, “Damn I almost feel bad, a kid like you would get fucked around with for sure. How old are you anyway, you don’t look like your old enough to be in college.”
“Yeah well my grades helped me get here, I actually worked to get where I am unlike some people. Now would you move, I’m trying to get to my dorm.” I say practically shoving him. “Damn and yet I almost felt bad for you, I feel bad for whoever has to share a room with you.” I scoff, “Oh whatever, I’m leaving now.” I said while pushing past him.
He grabbed my arm pulling me into him. My stomach flipped at his touch. Somehow as much I didn’t like this guy my body was betraying me. “You never answered my question love.” He said while staring at me intently. “Which..was...?” I said while stammering. Damn it this guy has some type of influence on me and there is nothing I can do about it. He leaned in close whispering in my ear. “Your age is?” He said lips brushing the brim of my ear.
“I’m 17. Now would you let me go now?” I said my heart pounding. “Mm...interesting indeed. Okay see ya around kid.” He said while realizing my arm. Finally. I walked away trying to find my dorm. 409..409 where is it? I turned down the hall heading up the stairs reading the sign the says 400-415. Ah this is the section where my room is. I climbed the stairs which lead me to another hallway. I studied each number looking for mine. I stopped at the door. 409 I found it.
I knocked on the door waiting for someone to open it. The door flung open and to my surprise it was the same dude who wouldn’t leave me alone. “You’ve got to be kidding.” I said while my jaw was practically hanging. “You again? Are you following me or something?” He asked leaning on the door frame.
“No, sadly this is my dorm.” I said while shoving past him walking into the room. “Your fucking with me right?” He said pushing off the door walking over to me. “I wish.” I said throwing my suitcase onto the empty bed.
“Well you better figure something out cause there’s no way I’m sharing a room with you.” I roll my eyes. “Well you better get over it because I’m staying here whether you like it or not. It’s not like I want to, don’t get the wrong idea. I just need a place to stay. So stop acting like a baby and just deal with it like an actual adult.”
“Yeah coming from you that sounds pretty fucking funny.” When will this guy just shut up? “Listen dude I don’t give a fuck if you don’t want me here just deal with it. You think I want to be in the boys dormitory, let alone share a room with you, because I don’t. So just mind your business and I’ll mind mine.” He flops down on his bed. “Okay smart ass. Sure I’ll play by your rules. But I’ll give you a warning if you touch or fuck with any of my stuff then I won’t hesitate to kick you out.” I laugh, “I’d like to see you try.” I said testing him. He rises from his bed and corners me into a wall. “Wanna test that?” I pause looking away, he was close too close. “I’ll take that as a no. Correct me if I’m wrong.” I stay silent.
“Good, now be a good girl and sit the fuck down.” I sit down on the plain and empty bed that was on the other side of his, just enough room to keep the distance. “Gladly.” I open my suitcase and begin sorting my things. Once I finish I realize I hadn’t packed a blanket but instead just a sheet to go over my bed. Ugh I’m so stupid. I guess I’ll have to go buy a blanket. I stand up and grab my wallet and head for the door.
“Where are you going this late at night?” I turn around to see this guy again. I totally forgot he was there. He was just so quiet. “I’m going to go buy myself a blanket I forgot to pack one.” He stands up and walks over towards me. “I’ll come with you.” I look up at him confused. “I’ll be fine by myself, I can handle myself perfectly fine.” He grumbles, “I’m not gonna let a young girl like you go out at night alone. I at least have some dignity, what type of person would I be if I didn’t go with you?”
“How about this, for tonight I’ll let you use on of my blankets, and tomorrow we’ll go get you a new blanket. Sound good?” Reluctantly I agree. “Good. Now go to bed.” He tossed me a blanket and I watched as he got in his bed and covered up with another one of his blankets. “You gonna sleep or what?” He asked meeting my gaze, “Oh yeah.” I covered myself up and rolled onto my side facing the wall. “Goodnight.” He said, “Night stranger.” I said slowly drifting off to sleep.
Drew-
I open my eyes, and the first thing I wake up to is seeing my new roommate one the other bed across from mine sleeping. She sleeps so soundly, just so peaceful. Now that I’ve taken a good look at her she’s actually pretty cute. Her hair was long and a light-strawberry brown color. She had long lashes and her body was close to incredibly perfect. I mean she was slim, and had the right curves exactly where you would want them. She was the definition of beautiful.
Drew what are you thinking? She’s seventeen and your twenty, get yourself together. She’s just a kid. I mean sure she was young, but she sure didn’t look or act that way. I’m gonna have to get use to this, I mean not that I want to. I sit up and get out of bed. I slip on some jeans and a black tee-shirt. I head into the kitchen and decide to make breakfast.
I grab a pan and put it on the stove, I whip up some pancake batter, then I pour it onto the pan. I turn on the oven and wait till I can flip it. While I was waiting I grab another pan and put it on the other side of the oven. I crack a few eggs and put it on the pan. I turn towards the pancakes and give it a flip. After I finish cooking I grab a few plates and put them on there.
I make myself some coffee, and decide to make my new roommate some too. It’s funny I don’t even know her name yet. I lean against the counter taking a sip of my coffee. As I’m taking I sip I notice that she’s up, and she’s walking towards me. She’s right next to me what is she doing? Then she reaches around me and grabs the other cup of coffee. Oh.
“Thanks for the coffee.” She said while taking a sip of it. “Ah sure no problem.” She turns around and her face lights up. “You made all this?! I didn’t know you could cook!” I chuckle, “Well I mean we just met yesterday, there’s probably tons of stuff you don’t know.” She makes herself a plate acting like she owns the place. “So what’s your name kid?” I ask. She turns toward me, “And how is that any of your business? Does it concern you? I didn’t think so.” She said while turning away taking a seat at the table.
“Well since we’re roommates now I think I should at least know your name.” She turns toward me once again. “Haylee, Haylee Brooks.” I smile, “Suits you, I’m Drew Hendricks.” She raises a brow, “Your mom name you?” I look down and then back up at her. “No, my uncle did actually.” Then there was silence. “Oh. Sorry.” Then she began to change the subject.
“So you gonna eat or what?” I make myself a plate, “Well yeah duh I didn’t make this all for you. And also this is not an everyday thing, so don’t get use to it.” She rolls her eyes, “I don’t plan on it.” Once we finish our food I watch as Haylee begins to clean up the dishes. “What are you staring at you old man.” I glare at her, “Old man? Really? I’m only twenty, that’s not that old.” She sighs, “Old enough.”
“Okay how about old hag? I like that much better, I think I’ll stick with it.” I choke mid sip on my coffee, “Smart ass.” She gives me a sarcastic smile, “Got one thing right.” I give her one good look and then walk away.
Haylee-
As I’m washing dishes I notice a necklace laying on the counter. Who’s is this? I know it definitely isn’t Drew’s and I know for a fact it isn’t mine. I pick it up and look at it, it was a small gold pendant. It had a infinity sign on it. Is this his girlfriends? I set it back down and continue with the dishes.
I finish drying the dishes and start to put them in the cabinet, as I was reaching up to put a plate up on the top shelf I drop it and it shatters on the floor beneath me. I gasp and crouch down to pick up the mess I had just created. Oh no Drew’s gonna be so pissed if he sees this. Just then I hear Drew’s footsteps and I hear him coming this way. Shit!
“Oh shit, what happened?” Drew asks. “I’m sorry I kinda dropped it. Don’t worry as soon as I get a job I’ll pay for it, but I don’t have any money right now.” He crouches down beside me. “Hey no don’t do that, you’ll cut yourself.”
I pick up another piece and he grabs my wrist making me drop it. Ow fuck I just cut myself. I flinch at the slight stinging pain in my finger. I look down at it to see the blood slowly rising to the surface. “Ah, see I told you. Stand up let’s get you cleaned up.” I rise from the crouching position I was in. “It was your fault...” I mumble under my breath.
He guides me to the bathroom and he tells me to sit down, so I do. I watch him as he grabs the first aid from under the sink. “What about the mess in the kitchen?” I ask. “That can wait.” He said and he grabs my hand gently, then he turn over my hand to adjust the position of my finger. I flinch.
“Sit still otherwise I might mess up. Okay?” I nod. I watch him closely as he applies gauze to my cut. It stings but I can handle it, after all it is just a small cut. “Sorry if this hurts, it might sting a little.” Then he wraps a bandaid around my finger.
“There, see all better.” I stand up, “By the way there’s a small gold pendant on the kitchen counter, I’m assuming it’s your girlfriends. Just thought I’d let you know.” He laughs, “Ah I was looking for that, and it’s not my girlfriends. To tell you the truth I don’t got one. It’s actually my sisters.” I look down embarrassed, “Oh.”
“No worries, thanks for letting me know.” I exit the bathroom and begging heading into the bedroom. “Oh and yeah, thanks for the help.” He follows after me. “Yeah sure no problem.” I grab some clothes and stare at Drew waiting for him to leave. He looks at me for a second then I watch as he realizes. “Oh shit sorry.” He said while exiting and shutting the door behind him.
“You’re pretty slow ya know.” I say while changing into some leggings and some sweatshirt from my closet. Eh whatever it’ll work. “You done yet?” He said through the door. I open the door, “Why are you just standing at the door you creep.” I say annoyed.
“I’ll take that as a yes, and sorry I wasn’t meaning to..do anything like that.” I glare at him. “I swear! Really I wasn’t!” I slip on some shoes and head towards the door. “Yeah sure you weren’t.” He walks towards me. “Where you going?” I turn towards him. “I’m gonna go buy a blanket.” He raises a brow. “You have the money for a blanket but not a plate?” He says skeptically.
“Damn it, I forgot I don’t have any money. Whatever I guess I’ll just use some of my clothes to cover me up.” I said while shrugging. “Here I’ll cover it, but you still owe me a plate.” He said grabbing his wallet and his shoes. “It’s okay I’m fine I can wait.” I said while looking up at him.
“No come on, I’m not gonna have you catch a cold and then I’ll have to take care of your sorry ass. So just stop refusing and come on already.” Damn this guy, he’s so irritating. “Your a real pain in the ass you know that?” He laughs, “Damn already been two days and I’m already a pain in the ass, I must be real good to already be on the level.”
“Yeah well I guess your just a ‘natural’.” I say while rolling my eyes. “I guess I am, now come on I don’t got all day.” He said while slipping on his shoes. I open the door and step outside into the hallway. “Yeah well me either.” We get through the hallway and make our way outside the campus. “Guess we got one thing in common.”
“Hurry up and get in the car.” He said while staring the engine. I hop in and the first thing I feel is the nice warm air. “Okay okay. I’m in.” He stepped on the gas and we began heading to the store. “So what type of blanket you looking for exactly?” I turn to face him, “I guess one that can keep me warm. Whatever works I guess.”
I look out the window and I feel his stare, and it makes the hairs on my neck stand up. “Okay.” I turn to look but he had already turned away. Or was it just me imagining things? I was probably jumping to conclusions like always.
“We’re here, come on let’s go.” He said shutting off the car and then we both got out. We went inside and headed towards the decor and the living area. We were looking and I hadn’t realized it but Drew had left me. I sighed. I continued looking and then I seen what looked like Drew...and a young women? Seriously he’s flirting with some girl when he’s suppose to be helping me pick out a blanket.
Whatever it’s not like I need his help anyway. I can pick out a blanket by myself. Why was I even thinking about this? Was I mad? Why would I be mad. Whatever I just need to focus on finding myself a blanket.
After a couple of minutes I finally found one that was suitable for me and went to go find Drew so I could check out. I found him in the same spot as he was thirty minutes ago, still talking with the same girl. I roll my eyes. I tap his arm trying to get his attention. And right as I did I was given the nastiest look I’ve ever seen from the girl he was talking with. Ugh what a bitch. I can just tell by the first few seconds. How annoying.
“Ah ready to check out already? Here take my wallet I’ll be with you in a couple of minutes.” I watch as he turns back towards the bitch and she gives him a big bright smile. Wow she’s good at being two-faced for sure. I head to the check out and buy my blanket. I was gonna wait but instead I decide to head out to the car. I get in and wait for Drew to return.
