The Life Equation – Episode 1
John and Sharon welcomed their newborn into the world, but unlike most parents, they chose not to name him—at least, not yet. To them, a name was more than just a label; it was a destiny, a path carved in letters. Until they understood who he truly was, he would remain unnamed.
For the first few days, their home in Lagos was filled with the soft cries of the newborn, the rhythmic hushes of a mother soothing her child, and the protective gazes of his older siblings.
Day 1 – The Arrival
The baby arrived healthy, his tiny fingers curling around Sharon’s as she held him close. John, exhausted but proud, watched as his wife breastfed their son for the first time. Their home was alive with joy, yet an unspoken mystery lingered—what name would eventually define him?
Day 2 – Meeting the Family
His three older sisters and one brother eagerly surrounded him, each reacting differently:
Damilola (Dami) – The eldest at 14, she took on a motherly role, gently cradling him and whispering Yoruba lullabies.
Tami – At 11, she was fascinated but slightly hesitant, afraid to hold him at first but later giggling at his tiny yawns.
Adebisi (Bisi) – 9 years old, the most playful, kept poking his tiny feet, amused by his small size.
David – 6 years old, the only boy before the baby’s arrival, eyed him curiously, already feeling a sense of responsibility.
Day 3 – Sleepless Nights
Sharon barely slept as the baby woke every two hours, demanding to be fed. John tried his best to help, rocking the baby when he cried, though he knew only his mother’s warmth could truly calm him.
Day 4 – The Silent Bond
The siblings became more involved, each claiming their own special connection with him. Dami would hum soft songs, Bisi would tell him stories, and David declared that, nameless or not, he had a new best friend.
Day 5 – The Decision Looms
John and Sharon sat together, watching their child sleep peacefully. They knew the time would come to give him a name—but not yet. For now, he was simply theirs, a blank slate in the grand equation of life.

The Naming Ceremony
A week after his birth, John and Sharon decided it was time. The house filled with relatives, neighbors, and friends, all gathered to celebrate the life of the newborn who had, until now, remained unnamed. The air carried the rich aroma of jollof rice and fried chicken, and Yoruba talking drums echoed in the background.
Damilola, Tami, Bisi, and David dressed in matching traditional outfits, excited to finally call their baby brother by a name. The elders of the family prayed over the child, blessing him with wisdom, strength, and prosperity.
Finally, John stood before the crowd, holding his son.
“Awa ti gba akoko lati mọ omo wa. Lati oni lo, a o ma pe e ni Osun Remilekun Adedayo.”
(We have taken time to know our child. From today, we will call him Osun Remilekun Adedayo.)
The crowd erupted in cheers, clapping and celebrating. Sharon smiled, holding back tears. The baby now had a name—Osun, symbolizing purity and strength, and Remilekun, meaning wipe away my tears.
A Year Later – Tragedy Strikes
Osun grew up surrounded by love, with David always by his side. They were inseparable—David would sit by his cradle, talk to him, and promise to teach him football when he got older.
But then, tragedy struck.
David fell sick suddenly. It started with a fever, then weakness, and within days, he was in the hospital. The family prayed, hoping for a miracle, but fate had other plans.
One quiet night, David took his last breath.
The house that once echoed with laughter now drowned in sorrow. Sharon collapsed in tears, unable to accept the loss of her son. John, usually the strong one, sat silently, his hands shaking. Dami, Tami, and Bisi cried together, struggling to process the loss of their little brother.
Osun, too young to understand, kept looking around for David, babbling his name.
Registering Osun’s Birth Certificate
Amidst the grief, John and Sharon had to complete the official paperwork.
At the local government office, they signed the forms, registering Osun’s existence in the world.

A New Beginning
Months had passed since David’s death, but the pain still lingered in the Adedayo household. Sharon often found herself staring at David’s old toys, and John buried himself in work to avoid facing the emptiness. Dami, Tami, and Bisi tried to stay strong, but the house didn’t feel the same without their little brother’s laughter.
Osun, still too young to understand grief, continued growing, taking his first steps and babbling new words. His presence was a small light in the darkness that had fallen over the family.
One afternoon, Sharon decided to take Osun for a walk to clear her mind. She passed by the local hospital—the same place where she had given birth to Osun and where David had taken his last breath. A strange feeling pulled her inside.
A Familiar Sound
As Sharon walked through the maternity ward, she heard the unmistakable sound of a newborn crying. She turned toward the sound and saw a couple sitting in a hospital room, holding a tiny baby wrapped in a soft blue blanket. The mother, exhausted but glowing with happiness, looked at her husband with teary eyes.
"Benjamin," she whispered. "His name is Benjamin."
The father smiled proudly. "Welcome to the world, Benjamin Ayomide Daniels."
Sharon watched silently, her heart aching and healing at the same time. The sight of a new life, fresh and untouched by sorrow, reminded her that even after loss, life continued.
The mother noticed Sharon standing at the door and smiled. "Would you like to see him?"
Sharon hesitated, then stepped forward, looking at the tiny baby in the woman’s arms. Benjamin. A name filled with strength. A name full of promise.
For the first time in months, Sharon felt warmth in her heart. She reached out, gently touching Benjamin’s tiny fingers as he gripped her hand. Life moves on, she thought. And so will we.

The Year 10 Football Match
It was a hot afternoon, and the school football field was buzzing with energy. Year 10 had a big match against another class, and Osun was right in the middle of it. The game was intense—tackles flying, shouts echoing, and sweat dripping. Osun, playing in midfield, controlled the game with skill, passing, dribbling, and setting up goals.
The match ended with a 2-1 victory for Osun’s class, and the celebrations were wild. Benjamin scored the winning goal, and everyone lifted him up like a champion.
After the match, Osun, Mercy, Wealth, and Roxanne packed their bags and left school together.
The Walk Home
Their house wasn’t far, but the road wasn’t smooth either.
The first part of the journey had proper streets with houses built close together, but as they walked further, the road became rougher.
The area still had that village feeling, with sand roads, small kiosks selling snacks, and old houses that hadn’t changed in years.
People sat outside their homes, fanning themselves in the heat, and some kids ran around playing football with a worn-out ball.
Roxanne wiped sweat from her forehead.
"This sun no get mercy at all," she muttered.
Mercy laughed, "Na why dem call me Mercy, make I help you carry bag?"
Osun chuckled, shaking his head. "Make una hurry abeg, I no wan hear mummy wahala today."
After about 15 minutes of walking, they finally reached their estate—not a big one, but it had a strong black gate that separated it from the rest of the area. It used to be a proper village, but the rich people started buying land and building houses, changing the look of the place.
Osun’s House
Their house was big, modern, and classy—a two-story mansion painted white and grey with large glass windows. The compound was spacious, with a well-trimmed lawn, a garage for two cars, and a small garden at the side.
The road outside still had some sand and patches of grass, a reminder of the village it used to be, but inside the estate, everything was developed.
At the front gate, a tall, muscular man stood, wearing a security uniform. His name was Baba Tunde, the family’s gatekeeper.
"Una don come back," Baba Tunde greeted them, opening the gate. His deep voice always carried authority.
"Yes sir!" Osun replied, grinning.
"How match be?" Baba Tunde asked, nodding.
"We win!" Mercy shouted, doing a small dance.
"Ah! Una try. Make una enter, your papa don come back since."
Osun’s smile dropped slightly. If their dad was home, that meant no nonsense. He straightened his posture and walked inside.
Inside the House
The house had a massive living room with white sofas, a big flat-screen TV, and a glass dining table. Their mom’s perfume always filled the air, giving the place a fresh, expensive smell.
Their dad’s car keys were already on the table—a sign that he was upstairs in his office.
Osun dropped his school bag and sighed. "Abeg, make I find something chop before wahala start."
Mercy and Roxanne laughed, while Wealth just shook her head, heading to her room.
