Cursed?

Same blood, different worth

Jungkook woke to the sting of cold water splashing across his face. His eyes flew open, heart lurching, but he barely had a second to breathe before a voice sliced through the damp chill.

“Get up, you useless thing! You think chores will do themselves?”
Maid stood over him, empty bucket in hand, her lips twisted in disdain. The flickering bulb overhead cast her shadow long and sharp against the cracked walls of the servant quarters. Jungkook’s thin blanket was already soaked through, icy against his skin. He bit the inside of his cheek and forced himself not to shiver. Showing weakness never ended well.
His joints ached as he sat up, the straw mattress beneath him groaning in protest. The room was barely wide enough to stretch his legs, its corners damp with mold and neglect. He’d long stopped wondering if they’d ever fix the leaks. The Jeons wouldn’t waste money on someone they wished had never been born.
There were better rooms in the servant quarters—ones with proper beds and heaters for winter nights—but Jungkook was given the worst. The smallest, coldest space at the far end of the hall, where drafts seeped through cracked windows and rats scratched behind the walls. Even the other servants, who never dared to meet his eyes, seemed to pity him sometimes. But not enough to speak up. No one ever did.

“I-I’ll get started,”
Jungkook replied- hisVoice raw with sleep, but the Maid’s hand snapped out, fingers digging into his arm with bruising force.

“Make sure you stay out of sight today,” she hissed, nails biting through the thin fabric of his sleeve. “Young master Jeongguk is back, and no one wants to see your miserable face ruining things.”
Jeongguk. The name struck like ice down Jungkook’s spine. The golden twin—the blessing, adored by all. His brother. The one who never had to hide in shadows or scrub floors until his hands bled. The one who lived in the warmth of the main house, never sparing a glance for the brother cast aside.
It had been months since Jeongguk last came home, off to some academy for the gifted where the world seemed to bend at his feet. Jungkook’s memories of him were sharp with cruelty—the way Jeongguk’s gaze would slide past him as if he were a ghost, the way his words would cut deeper than any slap.
“Why don’t you just disappear already?” Jeongguk had once said, eyes cold and bored. “You’re nothing but a stain on this family.”
Those words still rang in Jungkook’s ears, even now.
Once, when they were children, Jungkook had stumbled through his lessons, letters twisting and doubling on the page. No matter how hard he tried, the words wouldn’t stay still. He had stuttered and fumbled, cheeks burning with shame as the tutor sneered. But no one had listened when he tried to explain—how the letters never made sense, how they blurred and danced until his head throbbed.
The more jungkook thought the more he recalled

They never brought in a specialist, never asked if something was wrong. The word “dyslexic” was never uttered, not even in whispers. It was easier to believe he was just stupid, just defective—another flaw in a child who was never meant to exist
Even now, years later, Jungkook’s hands trembled when he picked up a book. He avoided writing, avoided any task that might betray him, keeping his head down and eyes lower. It was better to stay invisible. Better to be a shadow.
Obidience was all Jungkook knew. He never complained and always listened without refute. but that too didn't guarantee his safety.
Once, on the rare occasion when laughter had escaped him, light and startled, the sound had drawn eyes—disgusted and hateful. A passing maid had slapped the smile right off his face on the ordeal of his parents, her expression too was twisted. It was as if they couldn't bear it. Couldn't bear to see him smile even the tiniest bit.
“Don’t you dare,” she’d spat, voice dripping venom. “Someone like you has no right to be happy.”
Since then, Jungkook learned to school his expressions, to smooth away smiles before they could bloom, to keep his head bowed and his voice soft. Happiness was a luxury for blessings, not curses.
The door creaked open without warning, snapping Jungkook from the memory. He flinched back instinctively, eyes dropping to the floorboards.

“Still here?”
The voice was light, almost amused. Footsteps echoed in the cramped room, polished shoes stopping just short of the sodden mattress
Jungkook didn’t need to look up to know who it was. The scent of cologne, expensive and cold, was enough.

The door slammed shut, the finality of it ringing loud and hollow in the silence left behind. Jungkook stayed where he was, head bowed, breath shallow and shuddering. His chest ached with something raw and bitter—anger, maybe, or something dangerously close to hopelessness.
He stayed like that for a long time, the cold seeping in deep, until the chill felt like it was part of him. Until he couldn’t tell where it ended and he began.

Jungkook stayed on the floor for a long moment, knees pressed against the icy tiles, breath shallow and trembling. His fingers were still curled tight around the soaked fabric, knuckles bloodless and stiff. The chill seeped deep, numbing skin and bone, but he barely felt it—couldn’t feel much past the dull ache spreading heavy in his chest.
“Your existence is apology enough.”
"fag."
words from earlier rang sharp and bitter, each syllable digging deeper, reopening wounds that never seemed to heal. The memory hung heavy, a weight pressing him lower, and for a heartbeat, Jungkook couldn’t move—couldn’t do anything but stare at the dark stains creeping into the cloth clutched between his fingers.
But the world didn’t pause for curses, and neither could he. Not if he wanted to avoid another beating.
With a breath that shuddered all the way through, Jungkook forced himself to his feet. His legs trembled, raw palms stinging as he gripped the counter for support. The flickering light overhead buzzed loud and sharp, a cruel reminder that silence was never safe. He bit the inside of his cheek hard enough to taste copper and blinked back the sting behind his eyes. There was no time to fall apart. No one would care even if he did.
He worked quickly, hands fumbling with wet fabric,as he undressed himself. gathering each soaked piece and wringing them out until water pooled at his feet. While putting them aside he hissed as The cuts on his fingers screamed with every twist, but pain was a familiar companion—constant, unremarkable. It was better to focus on that than the cold emptiness curling in his gut, the whispers that clawed at the edges of his mind.

Jungkook’s fingers trembled as he pulled on a threadbare shirt, the fabric rough and frayed at the edges.
It was the least worn-out pair he had, but the sleeves still stopped above his wrists, too short and stretched thin with age. His pants weren’t much better—faded and loose, dragging over bare feet that had long since grown used to the chill of cracked tiles and icy floors. The small mirror hanging crookedly on the wall reflected a pale face, dark eyes dull and rimmed with shadows.
His hands moved slowly, smoothing the wrinkles, though it made little difference. Nothing could hide the bruises blooming dark and painful along his arms, the thinness of his frame or the way his shoulders curled inward, instinctive and defensive.

The Maid stood in the doorway, eyes narrowed with impatience and disgust. The moment he stepped out, head ducked low, her hand shot out, palm cracking sharp against his cheek. The sting bloomed instantly, hot and searing, and his head snapped to the side, eyes squeezing shut.

“Don’t stand there like an idiot,” she snapped, voice carrying down the hallway. “The dishes won’t clean themselves, freak.”
His legs felt heavy, the ache from yesterday’s chores still clinging stubbornly, but he forced them to move, each step slow and careful. The hallway stretched long and dim, the cracked wallpaper peeling in strips. The servant quarters were dark and cold, the narrow windows fogged with grime and frost, but the main mansion loomed ahead—warm and blinding, a palace of marble and glass.
Jungkook hesitated at the back entrance, fingers hovering over the brass handle, breath misting in the cold. The light spilling through the glass was too bright, too warm, a stark reminder of everything he didn’t belong to. But the thought of Maid’s resentful glare, her pressing a sleek heated iron rod on his wrist last time he’d been late,The fear of those burns, forced him forward.
The warmth inside was suffocating after the icy air outside, heavy with the scent of lavender polish and roasting meat. Voices drifted down the corridor—maids chattering lightly, laughter careless and bright. Jungkook kept his head down, eyes fixed on the marble floor, heart thundering painfully against his ribs.
It didn’t take long for the whispers to start.

“Maybe he’s here to curse the food,” another snickered, lips twisting cruelly. “Isn’t that all he’s good for?”
Jungkook’s shoulders tensed instinctively, steps faltering, but he forced them forward—hands clutching the hem of his shirt tight enough for the seams to strain. The kitchen doors loomed ahead, warmth spilling through the gap, and he slipped inside quickly, fingers trembling with every step.
But safety was a luxury he’d never had.

Jungkook’s legs trembled, eyes stinging, but he didn’t hesitate—couldn’t. He turned quickly, stumbling over his own feet, steps uneven and rushed. The hallway was empty, shadows stretching long and cold, and he hurried through it, breaths coming short and shallow, pulse drumming painfully loud in his ears.
The laundry room was colder, the draft biting through the thin fabric of his shirt, but it was quiet—blessedly, painfully quiet. His hands moved on instinct, gathering linens and uniforms, the pile seeming to grow heavier with every load. By the time the first basket was done, his arms ached, palms stinging with tiny cuts and scrapes.
The laundry for the family came first—silks and velvet, soft and delicate. Then the servants’ uniforms—stiff, dark, smelling of starch and sweat. Hours blurred, the sun crawling higher through barred windows, feet sore from standing. The washing machine rattled and groaned, but he moved mechanically, scrubbing collars and cuffs until his fingers turned numb.
His hands stilled only when the last shirt was wrung out, water pooling dark at his feet. The ache in his chest pulsed sharp and hollow, exhaustion weighing down heavy and relentless. His eyes stung with fatigue, limbs trembling, but there was no time to pause.
There never was.
His eyes burned, lips parting to draw shallow breaths as he blinked back the tears that threatened to spill. Crying would only make it worse. Weakness was a sin in this house, and he had no more room for sin.
Somewhere, beyond the thin walls, laughter echoed—bright and carefree. Jeongguk’s voice among them, ringing clear and light, a melody in a world Jungkook could never reach.
And as he dipped his hands back into the soapy water, scrubbing at a stubborn stain, he whispered the only truth he knew, a mantra to fill the hollow silence.
“A mistake in flesh, a burden by name.”
This wasn't the only one he knew
"Not fit to live, only fit to obey."
"Cursed in blood, worthless in flesh."
There were many more.
There were many..

Grandma's Will?

By the time Jungkook finished the laundry, the sun hung high, marking noon. His fingers were raw and bleeding from hours of scrubbing, knuckles cracked and stinging with every movement. But he couldn't afford resting.
His stomach ached with hunger, a hollow pain he was used to ignoring. Breakfast had been a stale piece of bread—thrown at him by a sneering servant who made sure it landed on the dusty floor. Jungkook hadn’t dared complain, instead mumbling a timid thank you before swallowing the dry crumbs quickly, mindful not to be seen.
He glanced at the neat rows of clothes fluttering on the line, exhaustion dragging at his limbs. For a moment, a small, tired smile tugged at his lips—until the door swung open with a bang, and Maid’s voice cut through the silence like a knife.

And he continued scrubbing the floors, knuckles raw and vision blurred, until the sun dipped below the horizon and the hallways lay in shadow.
Days blurred into each other, marked by endless chores and muffled cries that echoed within the cold walls of the servant quarters. Jungkook's world was a constant whirl of scrubbing, washing, and hurried whispers of apologies that went unheard. His fingers stayed red and raw, his back ached from bending for hours, and his eyes stung with exhaustion that never faded.
His meals were stale scraps, if any at all, eaten hastily and in secret. Rest was brief, haunted by nightmares that left him gasping awake, a hand clutched over his mouth to muffle the sobs. The bruises never got a chance to fade, each layer covered by new ones.
But even worse than the pain was the loneliness—the suffocating isolation of being unseen, unloved, unwanted. Every smile he tried to muster died before it could bloom, smothered by harsh words and mocking sneers.
...
It was morning when the door was thrown open with a bang, jarring Jungkook awake. He scrambled up, heart pounding, hands trembling as he fumbled to stand.
The maids stormed in, eyes glinting with disdain.

They didn’t slow down. The moment they crossed the threshold, one of the maids yanked him forward and threw him to the floor, the hard marble slamming into his knees with a sickening thud. Pain shot up his legs, white-hot and dizzying, but Jungkook barely had time to catch his breath before a sharp kick landed on his side, sending him sprawling with a choked cry.

Tears slipped down Jungkook’s cheeks before he could stop them, shame flooding his senses. He tried to stifle the sobs, tried to muffle the pathetic noises that slipped past his lips, but it only seemed to amuse them more.
Just then, the heavy doors swung open, and a flurry of footsteps filled the hall. A team of men in dark suits rushed in, their expressions tense and uncertain. The family turned, irritation flaring at the interruption.

Mrs. Jeon scoffed, fingers tapping irritably against her glass. “That woman was always soft-hearted and foolish. As if the Kims would actually go through with this farce,” she sneered, gaze flicking to Jungkook with open revulsion. “I doubt they’ll even accept once they see who they’re supposed to marry.”

Jeongguk’s fist crashed into Jungkook’s face suddenly, making him cry out in shock and pain. His vision went white, ears ringing with the force of it. Blood dripped slowly from his split lip, warm and metallic on his tongue.

“You can’t even do that right,” Jeongguk spat, shoving him back down with enough force to slam his knees against the marble, raw and aching. “You’re a curse. You always have been. You should’ve died with her—maybe then we wouldn’t have to deal with your disgusting existence.”

The lawyers shifted nervously, eyes darting between the scene unfolding and the enraged faces of the Jeons. “T-The will,” one of them stammered hesitantly. “If it isn’t honored… both families will suffer severe financial and political losses. Jungkook’s hands trembled as he buttoned the crisp white shirt, fingers fumbling over the delicate fabric. The outfit felt unfamiliar, almost too refined for him, but when Jeongguk had thrown it at him with a sneer, his heart had fluttered with the faintest spark of hope.

“Maybe… maybe he’s finally… being kind?”
Jungkook thought, smoothing the fabric down with careful hands. His chest fluttered with nervous anticipation, cheeks flushed with hope.
But the car ride to the Kims shattered that illusion quickly.
The journey to the Kim estate was silent and tense, Jeongguk’s gaze fixed pointedly out the window, lips curled with disdain. Jungkook, meanwhile, was mesmerized, eyes wide and sparkling as he stared out at the passing scenery.
It was his first time in a car, and he couldn’t help but marvel at the way the world seemed to blur by, sunlight glinting through the glass. His hands clenched nervously in his lap, but his lips curved with the softest, most genuine smile.

But Jeongguk had already looked away, jaw clenched tight with rage he couldn’t quite swallow. His fingers drummed irritably against his knee, eyes dark with something twisted and venomous.
As soon as they reached the entrance, Jeongguk’s patience snapped entirely. His hand shot out, fingers digging painfully into Jungkook’s arm as he yanked him out of the car.

“M-Maybe… I-I’ll just…yeah! Walk- It's so beautiful around here t-too” he mumbled, taking a hesitant step forward.
The wind was harsh, cutting through him with cruel indifference, and soon his fingers were numb, cheeks raw and pink from the cold. His vision blurred with tears, but he blinked them back, breaths shivering in the silence.
And then, a car slowed beside him, sleek and black, the tinted windows glinting ominously. The door clicked open, and a figure stepped out, all sharp lines and refined elegance.
Taehyung’s eyes narrowed slightly at the sight of him, but the disdain smoothed over into polite indifference almost instantly. His gaze flickered, briefly puzzled.

Soon the car stopped at the main entrance.
Taehyung got out first opening the door for jungkook who blushed helplessly at the action.
The entrance hall of the Kim mansion was nothing short of intimidating. High ceilings stretched above, adorned with glistening chandeliers, and the walls were lined with portraits of the Kim ancestors, their gazes cold and watchful. Jungkook shrank into himself instinctively, fingers tightening on the coat draped around his shoulders.
Beside him, Taehyung’s expression was unreadable, eyes fixed forward as he led the way with long, confident strides.
Jungkook stumbled slightly, trying to match Taehyung’s pace, but the exhaustion in his limbs made every step heavier than the last. His gaze darted nervously to the towering marble pillars and the grand staircase that spiraled upward, mouth dry with unease.

The meeting was brutal. The will was read out by the head lawyer, each word driving nails into Jungkook’s chest. Terms and conditions, assets and shares—none of it made sense to him, too complicated and businesslike for his exhausted mind to grasp.
All he understood was the conclusion: marriage. His and Taehyung’s.

As the meeting concluded, Jeongguk’s eyes were fixed on Jungkook with murderous hatred.
As soon as they left the Kim estate, Jeongguk’s grip on Jungkook’s wrist was bruising. He dragged him to the car, eyes dark and jaw clenched. The second the doors slammed shut, Jeongguk’s hand lashed out without warning. A sharp slap cracked through the air, snapping Jungkook’s head to the side.

The streets were dark and empty, the chill of the night seeping deep into his bones. He wrapped his arms around himself, lips quivering, but forced one foot in front of the other, breaths coming in uneven gasps.
The road to the Kim mansion stretched long and winding. Each step sent sharp pains through his battered body, feet bleeding from the rough gravel. But he kept going, driven by the flickering hope that
Maybe—just maybe—Taehyung wouldn’t turn him away.
It was nearly dawn when he reached the Kim estate, body swaying with exhaustion, clothes torn and bloodstained. The guards sneered, blocking the entrance with cruel eyes.

With nowhere else to go, Jungkook stumbled towards the bushes, curling in on himself as the wind howled through the silence. His limbs trembled, exhaustion dragging his eyelids heavy, but he couldn’t sleep—couldn’t risk closing his eyes.
...
Taehyung’s feet hit the pavement in a steady rhythm, breaths clouding in the chilly morning air. His usual jog route wound back towards the Kim estate, where guards whispered among themselves, eyes flickering to a cluster of bushes.

Taehyung without a word got into car with Jungkook. Ordered his personal driver to take them to his private villa.
Warmth enveloped them as Taehyung shouldered open the doors of his private villa. He barked orders at the maids, voice curt and commanding.

He didn’t see the cold calculation beneath the warmth, the way Taehyung’s eyes never softened.

“I-I…” Jungkook’s lips trembled, but he nodded, breath hitching. “Okay. I trust you.”
Soon Taehyung took Jungkook along with him to the courthouse.
The courthouse was empty, the vows mechanical.
Kim Taehyung

Taehyung’s fingers were cold where they pressed the pen into Jungkook’s hand, guiding him to sign the contract papers.

Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jungkook didn’t read them—didn’t even think to. He just smiled softly, fingers trembling but eyes bright.

“Thank you,” he whispered. “For being so… kind.”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s lips thinned. “Save it,” he muttered, eyes flickering with something dark.
...
Evening draped shadows over the Kim estate as they returned, Taehyung’s voice slicing through the silence.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“We’re married”
He announced flatly, watching as the room collectively stilled.
His mother’s eyes flashed with something triumphant , his father’s mouth curling at the edges. Jimin’s eyes narrowed, fingers drumming against his thigh.
Kim Namjoon/taehyung
Kim Namjoon/taehyung's eldest brother
“This is sudden” Namjoon said slowly, voice smooth but eyes calculating.

“It’s done,” Taehyung cut in.

Jungkook hovered behind him, fingers twisting nervously. A servant stepped forward to lead him away, and Taehyung barely spared him a glance.
Kim Taehyung

“Take him to my room,” he ordered, voice dismissive.
Kim Taehyung

As soon as the door closed behind Jungkook, Taehyung turned back, eyes cold. “It’s just to keep him quiet,” he explained flatly.

“This way, it’ll be easier to end it when I’m done.”

His father smirked approvingly. “Smart move,” he said smoothly.

After chatting for awhile and answering their questions taehyung left to his room.

When Taehyung entered the bedroom later, the sight that met him was not at all what he’d expected.
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jungkook sat curled on the floor by the door, knees drawn to his chest, eyes lifting at the sound of footsteps.

Taehyung’s brow furrowed. “What the hell are you doing?”

“I… didn’t know where to sleep,” he admitted, voice small. “Or what I’m allowed to touch.”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes narrowed, disgust curling low in his gut. “You’re kidding,” he scoffed.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung recalled Jeongguk telling him that Jungkook refused to sleep anywhere but the best beds. His gaze turned colder.

Jungkook’s eyes widened. “B-But… can’t we… share it?”
Kim Taehyung

Taehyung’s gaze sharpened, a sneer curling his lip. “So desperate already?” he bit out, voice cold.

“I don’t think you will be comfortable sharing the bed with me and neither am I without knowing each other."

Jungkook’s cheeks flushed, shame and hurt warring in his eyes. “O-Okay,” he mumbled. naively believing taehyung respected his opinions, comfort and boundaries

“Then… I’ll take the couch. You can have the bed, Taehyung-ssi.”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
The innocence in his tone was grating, too soft for someone Jeongguk had painted as a cunning brat. Taehyung scoffed but didn’t argue, sliding beneath the sheets with a dismissive wave.
...
Taehyung silently waited for jungkook to fret, toss and turn or complain. but as he turned to take a look. He saw Jungkook sleeping peacefully with a smile on his face.
In the end he fell asleep without anything.
...
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung descended the grand staircase with the ease of a man who owned everything he walked on. Fingers adjusted his cufflinks absently, the cool fabric of his suit settling comfortably against his shoulders. He hadn’t planned to skip his morning jog, but the absence of a certain tiny figure on the couch had altered his course.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
The first thing that struck him was the silence. No soft murmur of conversation, no clatter of dishes or the low buzz of servants exchanging morning greetings. Instead, there was a strange, heavy stillness—punctuated only by the faint rustling of fabric and hurried footsteps.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
His eyes narrowed, steps slowing as he took in the scene unfolding in the dining hall. His entire family sat frozen, chopsticks poised mid-air, eyes wide and mouths parted in undisguised shock. A cluster of servants hovered uncertainly near the entrance, eyes darting nervously between the table and the kitchen.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
A delicious aroma wafted through the air—galbijjim, jeon, kimchi-jjigae, tteokguk—each dish painstakingly arranged on the table. Traditional and intricate, the kind of breakfast even their seasoned chef took hours to perfect. Taehyung’s brows knit together. This didn’t add up.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
His gaze moved, almost instinctively, to the tiny figure flitting between the kitchen and the dining room. Jungkook—in an apron far too big for him, sleeves slipping past delicate wrists and hair a messy halo around his face. He looked impossibly small, eyes glimmering with a mixture of hope and terror as he placed another dish with trembling hands.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s lips pressed into a thin line.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“What… is going on here?” His voice sliced through the silence, low and commanding.

Jungkook flinched, nearly dropping the serving spoon. Wide doe eyes snapped to Taehyung, face paling.

Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
“T-Taehyung-ssi!” he stammered, hands twisting into the apron’s hem. “I-I just did the chores and… m-made breakfast…”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes narrowed further, crossing his arms over his chest. “You made all this?” he demanded flatly, disbelief heavy in his tone.

Jungkook bit his lip, teeth pressing white into soft flesh. “Y-Yes,” he admitted, voice barely above a whisper.

“I woke up early to… to clean and cook. I-I wanted to repay you for yesterday…”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“Repay me?” Taehyung scoffed, a cold smirk playing at the corners of his lips. “For what, exactly?”
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jungkook’s eyes flitted down, lashes casting shadows over his cheeks. His fingers fumbled with the hem of the apron, twisting and wringing nervously.

" For letting me s-stay,” he mumbled softly. “And… and for being so kind. Letting me sleep on the couch…” His voice grew even softer, cheeks tinting faintly pink.

"Is that all it takes for you to start playing housewife? Or is this another one of your acts?”

Jungkook’s breath hitched, lashes fluttering. “N-No! I just— I wanted to help,” he rushed out, eyes wide and pleading.

“I can… I can keep doing it. All the chores and cooking, I mean. I’ll try not to be a burden…”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes glinted with something cold and sharp. “How generous,” he sneered.
Kim Taehyung

💭'Is this the same Jungkook who wouldn’t lift a finger at home?'
Kim Taehyung

"Stop pretending."

Jungkook’s shoulders caved in, fingers curling tighter. His voice came softer, almost a murmur. “I… I’m not pretending,” he whispered.

"I just… I wanted to make you happy.”
The dining table remained deathly silent, Taehyung’s family watching with thinly veiled disdain. His mother’s lips curled faintly, Jimin’s eyes sharp and mocking.

Namjoon scoffed, breaking the silence. “Well, we’re certainly not eating that,” he said dryly, chopsticks clinking against the table.

Jungkook’s shoulders trembled, a soft apology slipping past his lips. “I’m… I’m sorry,” he mumbled, head bowing.

Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
“I-I’ll take it away if—”
The sound of chopsticks tapping against porcelain cut him off. Taehyung’s movements were smooth, almost indifferent, as he picked up a piece of galbijjim and brought it to his lips. The silence stretched taut, the room collectively holding its breath.

“T-Taehyung-ssi?”
Kim Taehyung

"Quiet."
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung muttered, not looking at him. His eyes stayed fixed on his plate, but his movements didn’t falter—chewing, swallowing, and then reaching for more.
Namjoon’s eyes narrowed, suspicion creeping in, but he took another bite regardless. Even Jimin’s scowl faltered, replaced by a faint flicker of surprise.

Jungkook stood frozen, fingers twisting nervously. His eyes glimmered with a mixture of relief and hesitant hope, cheeks flushing faintly as he watched Taehyung eat.

“D-Do you… like it?” he asked softly, voice tremulous.

Taehyung didn’t respond immediately, taking a measured sip of water before finally glancing up.

“It’s passable,” he said coolly, but the chopsticks lifting for another bite betrayed him.

“I’m… I’m glad,” he whispered, voice barely audible.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s chopsticks paused mid-air, eyes flicking briefly to the empty space near the kitchen entrance where Jungkook stood—small and hesitant, fingers still tangled in the apron’s hem. The boy's eyes shone with a mixture of relief and lingering fear, lips bitten red and raw.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
He caught himself staring a second too long and clicked his tongue quietly, annoyance flaring. He cleared his throat, voice deceptively casual.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“Have you eaten?” Taehyung asked flatly, not looking up from his plate. His tone was indifferent, almost bored.
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin
Jungkook startled, eyes widening slightly at the question. The faint pink on his cheeks deepened, and he fiddled nervously with the apron’s edge. His stomach gave an involuntary twist at the reminder—empty, aching, a dull pain he’d been ignoring since last night.

But the thought of burdening Taehyung, of making him worry even a little, made his hands tremble with dread. He forced a smile, small and reassuring, and willed his voice not to waver.

“Y-Yes!” Jungkook replied quickly, too quickly. “I-I ate earlier, don’t worry!” His eyes darted to the floor, a flicker of guilt passing through them.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes narrowed a fraction, suspicion pricking at the back of his mind. But he merely hummed, dismissing it with a shrug as he returned to his meal. If Jungkook wanted to lie, then so be it. It wasn’t his concern.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“Suit yourself,” he muttered coolly, taking another bite.
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin

Jungkook’s shoulders sagged imperceptibly in relief, a breath he hadn’t realized he was holding slipping past his lips. His smile wavered, faint but genuine, and he clasped his hands together, watching Taehyung eat with a sort of quiet delight.

Across the table, Jimin scoffed, rolling his eyes. “Pathetic,” he muttered under his breath, just loud enough for Jungkook to hear.

“I-I’m sorry,” he mumbled instinctively, fingers curling into the apron’s fabric until his knuckles turned white.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung didn’t bother to intervene, too busy draining the last of his water and wiping his mouth with deliberate nonchalance. As soon as the meal was finished, he rose smoothly, chair scraping against the marble with a muted sound.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
“I’m leaving,” he announced curtly, already turning on his heel. “Don’t cause any trouble while I’m gone.”
Jeon Jungkook/Cursed twin

Jungkook’s eyes snapped up, a soft gasp slipping past his lips. “W-Wait!” he blurted, hastily untying the apron and stumbling forward a few steps. “I-I’ll see you off!”
Kim Taehyung

Taehyung huffed, irritation flickering at the edges of his gaze. “That’s not necessary,” he muttered, strides long and impatient as he crossed the foyer.

But Jungkook followed regardless, tiny footsteps almost inaudible against the polished floor.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
The butler held the door open, bowing respectfully as Taehyung approached. He didn’t spare a glance back, barely registering Jungkook’s soft “Be safe!” as he slipped into the car.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
The door closed with a quiet click, sealing the cold silence inside. Taehyung’s fingers flexed absently against his phone, irritation simmering low in his chest. The memory of Jungkook’s wide eyes and trembling smile lingered unbidden—too bright, too innocent. It made his teeth grit.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
He exhaled sharply, forcing the thoughts away, and swiped his phone screen open with a smooth motion. The butler’s number was already in his recent contacts. The line picked up on the second ring.
? ? ?
? ? ?
“Yes, Young Master?” the butler’s voice came crisp and polite through the speaker.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes darkened, tone clipped and commanding. “I need the CCTV footage of the mansion,” he ordered flatly. “From 2 AM until now.”
? ? ?
? ? ?
There was a beat of silence, barely a pause. “Understood,” the butler replied promptly. “I’ll send it immediately.”
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
The phone beeped, ending the call. Taehyung leaned back against the leather seat, fingers drumming impatiently against the armrest. His eyes flicked out the window, watching the mansion shrink into the distance.
...
His phone chimed a moment later, screen lighting up with a notification. The footage file loaded quickly, a grainy black-and-white feed of the kitchen entrance at 2 AM.
Deciding to watch it upon reaching his cabin. he put away his mobile and sighed.
...
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
Taehyung’s eyes narrowed, thumb tapping to play. The screen flickered, and then—
In his office, Taehyung's jaw tightened, molars grinding with each passing second, eyes glued to the phone screen. The dim light from the device cast harsh shadows across his face, accentuating the cold fury simmering beneath his composed exterior. The CCTV footage played in eerie silence—grainy but disturbingly clear. Every frame seemed to stretch endlessly, capturing Jungkook shuffling from room to room with weary limbs and a persistence that made something twist uncomfortably in Taehyung's chest.
His fingers flexed against the polished surface of his desk, the muted hum of the city outside a stark contrast to the stillness suffocating the room. Taehyung’s eyes narrowed, tracking every tremble, every hesitant step Jungkook took. The boy moved hurriedly but cautiously, as if terrified of making even the smallest mistake.
Jungkook’s figure on the screen was painfully small, barefoot and clad in thin, wrinkled clothes that hung loose over his delicate frame. He scrubbed the floors with a kind of frantic determination, knees pressing against the cold marble until they wobbled. His fingers, raw and red, gripped the brush tightly, knuckles white from exertion. Once, the brush slipped from his grasp, clattering against the tiles with a hollow sound that made Jungkook flinch violently, eyes darting toward the hallway as if expecting someone to storm in.
Taehyung’s eyes darkened, fingers pausing in their restless tapping. His heart gave an uncomfortable lurch when the footage caught the faint quiver in Jungkook’s shoulders, the way his head bowed lower each time a shadow passed the doorway. He moved quickly, almost mechanically—dusting the corners, rearranging vases with hands that trembled, wiping windows until they gleamed without a single streak. There were no breaks, no pauses for rest. Even when Jungkook swayed slightly, his legs buckling for a fraction of a second, he caught himself with a sharp intake of breath and continued.
Kim Taehyung
Kim Taehyung
A faint line appeared between Taehyung's brows, irritation simmering beneath the surface. But the source of that irritation was murky, tangled between the lies Jeongguk had fed him and the reality playing out on the screen. His jaw clenched tighter, muscles ticking in barely restrained frustration.
But what made Taehyung's blood turn cold—what made his fingers dig into the edges of his phone, grip almost bruising—was the end of the footage. The screen flickered, shifting to the kitchen.
Jungkook’s tiny figure sank to the cold tiles, cross-legged and exhausted, shoulders curling inwards. He moved slowly, almost hesitantly, scraping leftovers from everyone’s plates onto a single one. His hands shook, grip fumbling with the chopsticks for a moment before he steadied them with a soft inhale. But his eyes—wide, dark, and too bright—held a kind of gratitude that sent a chill down Taehyung’s spine.
Jungkook ate slowly, small bites, chewing with deliberate care as if each mouthful was the finest delicacy rather than scraps picked clean from plates barely touched. His lashes fluttered shut briefly, a soft smile ghosting over his lips, raw fingers curled protectively around the plate. The way his shoulders relaxed fractionally with every bite, as if he hadn’t tasted warm food in days, made Taehyung’s stomach twist with something sharp and unfamiliar.
His heart stumbled painfully against his ribs, a dull ache settling low in his gut. This couldn’t be right. This couldn’t be the same Jungkook Jeongguk had described—the spoiled brat who threw tantrums at the slightest inconvenience, who refused to lift a finger and basked in luxury without a second thought.
