Okay, Elle, don’t overthink this. Just write your wish and tie it to the tree. Nothing magical about it… or is there?

(She takes a small step closer to the Wish Tree, looking at the colorful ribbons fluttering in the wind. Just as she ties her wish, another hand brushes hers.)

Alex

Oh! Sorry, I didn’t mean to—uh—interrupt.

Elle

Oh, no, it’s fine! I didn’t realize someone was right behind me.

(Alex holds up a small piece of paper with neat handwriting, looking a little sheepish.)

Alex

I guess we’re both here to make a wish. Christmas tradition, huh?

Elle

Yeah. You believe in this stuff?

Alex

Not really, but my sister swears this tree is lucky. She made me come. You?

Elle

Kind of the same. My best friend told me to give it a try. Couldn’t hurt, right?

(They both smile, tying their wishes to neighboring branches. As Elle steps back to admire the glowing tree lights, her scarf gets caught on the branch.)

Elle

Oh, come on! Why does this always happen to me?

Alex

Here, let me help.

(Alex gently untangles the scarf and hands it back to her.)

Elle

Thanks… uh…

Alex

“Alex. And you?”

Elle

Elle. Nice to meet you, Alex.”

Alex

Nice to meet you too, Elle. So… what did you wish for?

Elle

(playfully) If I tell you, it won’t come true, will it?

Alex

Fair enough. Guess we’ll both have to wait and see.
