Later that evening, Y/N gathered with Jin, Jimin, and Taehyung in her room.

“Probably all three. But knowing him, he’ll look annoyingly perfect while doing it.”
Jungkook, sitting in his room, staring at his tie as if it personally offended him. Hoseok and Namjoon sat nearby, enjoying the show.

( sighed, tossing the tie on the floor) “Why does this even matter? It’s just an engagement party. Fake smiles, fake promises, fake—”

: “Think of it this way. Tonight is a business meeting with better lighting and overpriced champagne. Smile, nod, and keep the insults to a minimum.”
jhope
: “But not too minimal. We need entertainment.”
The party was in full swing when Y/N arrived at the top of the grand staircase, her arm reluctantly looped through her father’s. Guests turned to stare, murmuring about how beautiful she looked.
Y/N couldn’t care less. Her eyes scanned the room until they landed on Jungkook, standing near the bar, looking every bit like a K-drama male lead in a tailored black suit.

(under her breath to Jin, who followed behind): “Why does he have to look that good? It’s infuriating.”

“Right? It’s like his jawline was sculpted by the gods.”
Y/N
( shot him a glare) “Whose side are you on?”
At the bottom of the stairs, Jungkook looked up and caught sight of her. For a brief moment, his usual stoic expression faltered, replaced by something akin to surprise. He quickly masked it with a smirk as Y/N descended.

“Took you long enough.”
Y/N
“Sorry, I had to mentally prepare myself for this.” She gestured dramatically around them.
Their parents swooped in, ushering them toward the center of the ballroom where they were to perform the customary engagement toast. Jungkook handed Y/N a glass of champagne, their fingers brushing for a brief second.

(Leaning in, smirking): “Try not to spill it. I know grace isn’t your strong suit.”

From the back of the room, their friends huddled together, watching the scene unfold.

(whispering to Jimin): “Bet you a hundred bucks Y/N does something dramatic before the night is over.”

As the formalities ended, Y/N and Jungkook finally had a moment to breathe. Or so they thought. A waiter passing by with a tray of champagne glasses tripped, sending the drinks flying—straight onto Y/N’s dress.
The room gasped. Y/N froze, drenched in sparkling liquid, while Jungkook tried—and failed—to suppress a laugh.
