"Hah, finally, I found him, so he had been hidden in the human world all this while," a figure said, this figure was clad in a white long dress she held something similar to a jade crystal at the tip of her hand.
Looking at her surroundings there was no one in sight, it seemed she was muttering to herself.
But looking at the light emanating from the crystal jade in her right hand one could see the projection of a young man who looked to be around the age of sixteen.
The young man had been talking to a lady who looked quite older than him.
"Logan, take the money from the counter and go and get us something to eat" the young lady called Madeline said.
She had long dark hair, a striking contrast to Logan's golden hair. She was clad in a lemon green dress, she had an oval face and deep brown eyes, a striking contrast to Logan's golden eyes bringing forth the question of who this woman was.
"Okay Mom," Logan replied as he slowly stood up from the couch to take up the money on the counter.
Picking up the money Logan strode to his room putting on blue leather pants and a thick black hoodie. He liked wearing a hoodie while going out because his golden hair always attracted unwanted stares and attention.
He also wore some dark shades to cover his enchanting golden eyes.
He left for the supermarket to get the things he had been asked to buy by his mother.
Logan had just finished buying some snacks when a girl approached him telling him she needed his help.
"Excuse me mister can you help me with something?" a little girl said in a childish voice, she had a playful air around her that made one call her cute.
"And why would I help a stranger?" he asked, he wasn't really in a haste but he just thought it unnecessary to help a little girl.
I mean what could she possibly want that I have?
But the little girl pleaded with him "I promise I would take much of your time mister" She said seeming like she was already tearing up.
He thought for a moment and said, "Fine, let's go."
She smiled at him happily and jogged as she led the way.
He was slightly surprised when she took him into a dark alley, but he didn't let it bother him.
"What could an innocent-looking girl do?" he thought to himself.
When they reached a dead end, Logan was about to say something when he saw the little girl approach the wall.
He quietened as he watched curiously what she was trying to do.
"_"
Logan could hear the little girl whispering to the wall, he was about to approach her to ask what sort of a joke this was he noticed the wall started glowing.
The middle spiralled as it slowly started spinning till it became a pure whitish circle forming something similar to a portal he had seen in movies.
Logan's mouth hung agape as he watched on. Soon he felt a boundless and ancient aura gush forth from the portal. He felt a tingling sensation in his body as he felt a pull towards this portal.
He tried to resist the feeling.
What the hell is happening to me? and wait where's the little girl?
Logan turned back as he realised the little girl was nowhere near the portal anymore. Looking back he saw the little girl grinning from ear to ear childishly at him.
"Who are you? What are you trying to do to me? " he asked in a panicked voice.
"Oh me? I am no one that you need to know for now" the little girl said with multiple giggles flowing each sentence.
"Farewell Logan, come find me in the future, till we meet again" the little girl said With a giggle as she blew Logan a kiss.
But what she blew wasn't as ordinary as it seemed due to the pinkish particles that followed the air she blew, Logan didn't see these little particles because they were too tiny.
But as they touched him, as though struck by a boulder he flew at a great speed into the portal as it rapidly shut almost immediately leaving nothing but the Dark old grey wall which was previously there.
"So, the adventure of Logan begins, I'd like to see how his life turns out, I hope he doesn't die too soon, hahahahaha" the little girl muttered to herself, her appearance changing to that of the lady seen previously clad in white.
Read the prologue to understand what led to this.
Slowly Logan opened his eyes, he stood up, his eyes still blurry, he noticed his surroundings with his half-closed eyes and realised he was in something like a hut with wooden parchments littered everywhere, he saw something that looked like a door, it was made of wood that seemed like it had withered with time and had multiple holes through with the orange rays of sunlight passed through, he reached out to open it.
'Click'
The wooden door knob was pulled as the door slowly opened.
'Rumble'
The sound of the door crashing down jolted Logan awake as his blurry eyes seemed to have regained their clarity.
"Damn, what's with the mud house? I thought these stopped existing a long time ago. But what...." Logan realized as he stepped out from the house.
He was about to continue mumbling but turned speechless as his mouth hung open when he saw that there were multiple houses like that through the corner of his eyes.
'Have I gone back in time?' This was the first question that came to mind because he knew that none of such buildings existed in modern times.
He soon realised something, he didn't know if it was because he had just been confined to a room but the air here smelled fresher than that of where he was from, the air here felt invigorating and seemed to contain some refreshing effect.
Logan could not help but inhale slightly before tilting his head to study his surroundings.
He tilted his eyes up and the first thing he saw was the pale blueish-green sky, it looked like it was right out of a fantasy world.
'Is this still earth? Or am I in heaven? Wait! Am I dead?' multiple questions ran through the mind of Logan as he slowly brought his hand slightly below his nose.
"Phew, at least I'm still alive' he said as he pinched himself a little to see if he was dreaming.
'Not dreaming, not in heaven, definitely not reincarnated! Then could it have been that portal led me somewhere? But where?' he pondered as his hand rested on his chin.
After a moment of walking his eyes suddenly caught something, an extremely large building with "AZURE FACTION" written boldly on it.
The building was extremely tall that one just could not ignore and it seemed like a gigantic castle from ancient times.
Is that supposed to be a school? And what's with the olden days design, wait! Could I have gone to an alternate reality? I've seen those happen in some movies.
Logan questioned no one in particular, but due to having read books where faction was often used to describe something similar to a school he could not help but be curious.
The faction was so large that he couldn't see the end of it, with countless other buildings that appeared to be connected to the Azure building as it housed them all.
He was speechless as to how he ended up here in such a place, all he recalled happening last was losing his consciousness after entering that strange portal.
What the heck did that strange little girl do to me?
Suddenly a voice was heard, it portrayed an announcement, it seemed to come from a far place but at the same time, it sounded close.
"All new intake interested in enrolling in the Azure faction should come to the assessment hall. Follow the directions of the man you'll see up above"
Following the sound of the voice Logan looked up and saw a man in the air the man was clogged in a sleek olden days fashioned black robe, he had a brown moustache with bold grey eyes.
Logan noticed something strange as he looked behind the man's back, he realized that the man had some wings coming out from his back, the wings looked like they were made of some strange essence, they looked like that of a butterfly but more masculine and pronounced, they were slightly bright orange in colour.
Logan gasped as he saw this, he looked to his side hoping to encounter others who shared a similar surprise as him but every other person looked at it like it was a normal thing.
Different thoughts were going through his mind, 'Is this man flying? What's that strange thing behind his back that looks like wings? What sort of world did I find myself in?'
"As always, they always do this every Monday" Someone muttered from behind as Logan overheard it.
He took a moment to analyse the situation at hand. 'That portal let me somewhere, a simulation perhaps, But how did I encounter that strange little girl? I can't recall what happened before that and it seems I'm forgetting someone, someone extremely important to me!'
After pondering on a couple more issues Logan decided to follow the strange man, maybe he could enrol in this faction and gain more knowledge about this strange world.
The man directed the stream of people to the hall and when they entered Logan was once again surprised.
The hall looked small on the outside but inside was entirely different, it was large enough to accommodate the thousands of new intakes.
What the f""k is going on, first the gigantic school, then the man with strange wings and now this hall that seems like space is twisted!?
Logan looked up and saw a tall figure standing on a platform. The figure was dressed in dark green formal attire and held a wooden staff in his hand.
Logan found an empty seat and sat down, waiting for further instructions.
The figure on the platform, presumably an administrator, cleared his throat and began to address the assembled new intakes.
"Welcome, new intakes of the Azure faction," he announced.
"You have chosen to join our esteemed faction, where talented individuals from various backgrounds gather to hone their skills and abilities."
Logan listened attentively, his curiosity piqued.
The administrator continued, "Before you can fully integrate into our school, you will undergo an assessment to determine your aptitude and potential. This assessment will test your affinity with the essence of nature, and your talent grade"
He paused for a moment studying the diverse faces of the crowd before continuing "Those with low affinity grades or possessing one element unfortunately won't be accepted, so if that's your case please excuse yourself and not waste our time" the instructor said firmly giving no room for excuses.
This has happened quite a number of times, where talentless individuals come to the faction begging to get accepted but their request can only be declined for the status of the faction to not plummet among the ranks of the other six factions.
'I'm pretty intelligent, so if it's an assessment test I'm sure I'll pass. Element? Oh chemistry? That's simple! But why would humans possess an element? Should I have come with carbon or silver?' Logan thought confidently as he smirked awaiting this so-called test.
The administrator concluded his speech, instructing the students to follow the appointed guides who would lead them to their respective assessment areas.
A young man with a sleek brown moustache dressed in a pale green robe soon came to meet Logan's group, presumably their guide.
Logan, along with the other new intakes, followed him as he led them through the maze-like corridors of the school.
As they walked, Logan couldn't help but scream in his mind 'What a waste of money! I could probably sell all this gold for some big bucks' as he realized that the corridors seemed to be made out of gold.
He touched it and realized it was actual gold due to having encountered one while he was younger. 'Seems I'll have to come back to these corridors at night, hehe, at least I could gather some income before returning to my world'
While Logan was still having some mischievous thoughts about the innocent corridors they soon reached where the assessment was to take place.
Logan was shocked once again by this strange world because he was expecting that they would be handed a sheet of paper containing questions that they needed to answer but all he saw in this hall was a blueish-stone marble at the platform ahead.
What sort of test are we then going to go through? Perhaps we'll have to identify the element that stone marble is made of... What element is that? Diamond? hmm...
Looking up, he saw some words written boldly on a plane projection that was hung at a particular height where it could be seen by everyone.
He had just noticed them now, they read:
The 10 elements and their representative colours:
"Red - Fire
Blue - Water
Green - Wind
Brown - Earth
Cyan - Ice
Purple - Lighting
Indigo - Sound
Silver - Space
White - Light
Black - Darkness
.
.
.
Grade: Affinity compatibility.
Black - Lowest affinity
White - 2nd grade
Yellow - 3rd grade
Red - 4th grade
Blue - 5th grade
Purple - Highest affinity."
The assessment began and Logan saw the first intake approach the marble stone. It was a boy with brown hair, who had an air of confidence.
'Now let's see what this assessment is about' Logan looked vividly at the boy as his golden eyes seemed to sparkle with brimming brightness.
The boy placed his hand on the marble and Logan saw a flash of blue colour emanate from the stone before different words manifest in the air.
They read:
Essense Affinity - Water.
Grade - Yellow.
'Hmm? What is this about?' before Logan could question the receded light started to glow once again, this time a green colour.
Another line of words appeared
Essence affinity - Wind.
Grade - White.
"Damn! How could I get the water and wind element, those are probably the worst elements and what with the white grade, such shit luck" the boy muttered as he headed to his seat.
"Dual Elementalist, that's nice," the instructor said in a displeased tone, obviously Dual Elementalist was extremely common.
***
The assessment went on for a while and Logan had been able to pick up on what was going on.
'It seems that the marble reveals the element you possess like fire, water, etc...but would I possess an element as someone from another world? A world of no magic?'
While Logan was processing his thoughts on how to deal with this strange world he found himself in, there was a particular intake that caught the eyes of everyone.
She stepped forward, her eyes, resembling crescent moons. She had fair smooth skin and a pair of slim slender legs. She walked gracefully and placed her hand softly on the marble.
As her results manifested, everyone gasped as the stone revealed a remarkable combination.
Element affinity - Earth
Grade - Red
Element affinity - Wind
Grade - Red
Element affinity - Darkness
Grade - Red
Element affinity - Light
Grade - Blue
"Oh wow, a quad elementalist, that's nice, sorry miss what's your name? " the instructor praised the lady as she smiled sweetly seeing her results.
"Annabelle. " the girl said in a whisper as she slowly walked back to her seat earning stares from multiple boys.
The assessment continued…
"A tri-elementalist, good"
"A dual Elementalist, that's manageable"
"Only an element! I thought you were told not to show your face here loser!"
As the assessment continued, one could not help but notice the rarity of the following four elements: Light, darkness, space and sound.
Only a few hundred individuals among the thousands of intakes present possessed one or two of the four rarest elements.
Three individuals had great affinity compatibility with the essence of darkness, earning a blue grade in that category.
Similarly, five individuals displayed great affinity to the essence of light, also achieving a blue grade.
However, there was one student that caught even the eyes of the higher-ups.
His name was Mark, he earned a purple grade affinity for the space element leaving everyone in awe because someone with a purple grade can learn cultivation skills at thirty times the speed of a normal cultivator.
And he would certainly be a peak powerhouse except he dies.
It was finally Logan's turn as the last, he walked up to the assessment marble feeling nervous. As he slowly placed his hand on the stone, gasps of surprise could be heard.
The marble turned rainbow-coloured with a hint of a golden flash of blinding light.
Soon the stone's rainbow-coloured light began to recede, Logan was greatly surprised that he possessed an element as someone from a world where magic doesn't exist.
'Seems I'm quite special after all' Logan thought as a smirk played on his lips
But after a few minutes of waiting for the result, to see what elements he possessed the stone didn't show any signs of showcasing such information.
The instructor in charge was confused because nothing like this had ever happened before.
But before he could talk Logan reached out with his right hand and he smacked the stone lightly "Hey stone what's wrong with you?"
As logan smacked the stone everyone's eyes widened in surprise as they all thought a similar thing "What sort of person is this?"
The stone didn't respond seeming like it was dead.
The instructor asked Logan to take the test again. "Young man take the test again, maybe it's a malfunction."
"Okay," Logan said as he once again placed his hand on the marble stone, but when he tried the marble didn't glow. He tried a second time but still had the same result.
"It seems you possess no element," the instructor said as he pressed his brows in a frustrated manner.
'Of course, I don't possess an element, I'm from another world!' Logan screamed in thought. He went back downcast because he was hoping that he could perhaps know how it felt to command fire at his fingertips and bend the laws of space or some other element, even if it was just one he would be grateful, but what could he do, he was from another world after all.
The instructor was about to dismiss him when he heard a true essence transmission "Let the boy stay!" the voice sounded like a decree in his ears that the instructor could not disobey and he knew who it was that spoke. It was the faction leader.
The instructor used a true essence transmission to inform Logan of the new development. "Hey kid, wait behind after the assessment."
Logan was shocked to hear a strange voice in his head as he was coming down from the platform, he looked around wondering who it was before slowly stopping at the instructor, the man nodded at him before slowly turning away.
'Why does he want to see me? Did he discover I'm not from this world?' Logan wondered in his mind.
The instructor told them where to get their room keys so they could withdraw for the day.
After everyone had left the instructor approached the nervous Logan and said in a low voice "Someone wants you to stay, you pass the assessment, get the key to your room from the reception and prepare to live in hell!" although the last part wasn't necessary the instructor said it in a threatening voice before leaving the confused Logan.
'Someone is pulling strings for me?' Logan questioned no one in particular. 'Is it that little girl?'
At the reception where he went to collect his keys, he was immediately recognized as the only one without an affinity.
"So that's the kid with no elemental affinity, what a shame!"
"Some people's family connections truly run deep! Even with no element he was admitted!"
"I hope the status of the school does not plummet"
Logan felt like face-palming himself as he heard the discussion of the crowd. He was just as confused as them as to what happened and yet they were just spouting rubbish...
If only I had an element, I would have smashed your ugly faces beneath my feet.

Collecting his keys he discovered his room number was 1204, and he was told to take a spatial transmission. As he went, he saw a grey door with a slot in the handle and after sliding his card with his room number on it, the door opened.
As he entered and passed through, he was surprised that he had arrived at what seemed to be his room, but he still felt some dizziness from the spatial transmission.
'Is this an application of the space element?' Logan pondered seeing he had just experienced something similar to teleportation.
He twisted the door knob and entered his room where he met his roommates, who looked similar in age to him. One of them had blonde hair, thick eyebrows, and fierce green eyes. He had a restrained aura that seemed to shut everyone out, saying, "Don't come close!"
Logan approached him with a handshake and greeted "Hello, good evening."
Mark turned and looked at him for a moment before entering his room and shutting the door behind him with a bang leaving Logan's hand hanging in the air.
'Bang!'
Logan was stunned and could not help but scream in his mind 'What the hell dude? We haven't met before! What's all this snubbing and arrogance?'
Logan could not help but shake his head when he heard a voice behind him.
"New kid right? Mark is always cold and indifferent so I won't advise you approaching him." This was the voice of his second roommate.
"What's his deal?"Logan asked as he turned around and saw a black-haired boy with deep blue eyes, the boy looked to be around his age and had a playful air around him.
The boy's short black hair blended perfectly with his deep blue eyes and he could only be described in one word "Handsome"
"Don't know! Don't care!"Jason shrugged.
"The name's Logan, Logan Bane," Logan said gesturing for a handshake.
"Aiyo! My name is Jason Belling." Jason replied as he looked at Logan in a weird way as though studying him.
"Golden hair, Golden eyes, extremely handsome just like me, perfect body and facial features, you are the perfect bro! We would conquer the world and all its women together!" Jason screamed in a maniacal laughter accepting Logan's handshake. At that moment he looked like a child that had finally found his favourite toy.
'Yep! Handsome but mentally ill' Logan thought with a sigh. As he slowly walked away from Jason.
***
He went straight to his bed after unpacking his things and lay down, staring up at the ceiling, trying to imagine how life was going to be for him. Suddenly, he heard some noises and he discovered that Mark had beaten up Jason.
He was shocked, but even as Jason was being beaten up, he was still making noise and spitting out curses at Mark, making him all the more furious.
"Don't spoil this handsome face of mine! What would the ladies say?"
"You're just jealous of my handsomeness!"
"Logan bro, come save me from the hands of this ugly monster"
Logan found this a little hilarious as he pretended to not have heard Jason's call for help.
'Maybe this place isn't so bad.'
After a while of being restless with no sleep coming, he decided to go out and stroll a little bit.
Well, he was actually planning on how to harvest his gold.
He stood up from his bed and went out towards the direction of the corridor, he wanted to be familiar with his surroundings so it would be easy to stea... Cough... Cough... Runaway with his gold.
"Logan, is it?" he heard a beautiful voice ask while he was plotting evil.
He turned around to see a beautiful blonde girl with Cresent moon eyes. Her skin seemed to glow. He was in a complete daze, wondering how he hadn't noticed such beauty in the assessment.
'Well, I guess I was too busy moping about the assessment results, and she knows my name, sigh, I guess I've become quite popular, family connections, haha' he thought to himself.
"Will you stop staring at me like that? You're making me feel awkward," she said nervously as she saw his golden eyes looking deeply at her like they could see all truths, her voice bringing him back from his daze to reality.
"I'm sorry, I got carried away," he said.
"Is this how you go about staring at any girl that passes by?" she asked jokingly, with a cute smile plastered on her face.
"Only the cute ones," he said shamelessly, trying to make her smile more, just so he could keep looking at those beautiful smiles that seemed to keep his world at a standstill.
"Annabelle," she said suddenly.
"What's that?" he asked, trying to clarify what he had just heard.
"My name! it's Annabelle," she said, still flashing those beautiful smiles that would leave any guy drooling.
"Wow, such a beautiful name," he said.
"Aren't you going for dinner?" she asked caringly and rather surprisingly.
'Dinner, that's right! I'm quite hungry"
"No…erm…I mean yes," he answered. He wasn't expecting her to ask this.
"Young man, make up your mind. Are you eating or not?" she asked, pouting her lips.
If the instructor saw this he would be greatly surprised because this was the same lady who was a quad-elementalist, and Logan didn't know what sort of monstrous genius he was walking with.
"Yes, I'm eating," he said firmly. She led the way to the dining hall, while he followed behind, staring wholeheartedly at her figure, her curves... Cough... Cough... everything.
'She's perfect,' he thought to himself and smiled.
***
As Logan and Annabelle left a shadowy figure could be seen behind them as he held an essence transmission jade.
"Get me all the information on the boy! And look for a way to cleanly kill him painlessly for coming close to my Annabelle." the voice on the other end said.
"Yes boss" the shadowy figure replied.
***
They went to the dining hall together. She brought up a topic and they started chatting. She was an entertaining person. She kept smiling at Logan and it made him forget everything that had happened during the assessment test.
After dinner, they bid farewell to each other and he went back to his room. He saw his roommates meditating and decided not to disturb them.
He silently went straight to his bed and lay down to sleep as he recalled the events of his first day in this strange world.
