Rebirth: Reborn as the Third Master of the Woo Family

Kim's death

"You are nothing but a gold digger! I wished you died along with that vixen you call mother!" The male voice ripped through the air, a vicious snarl that sent ice through my veins. I stumbled backward, a pathetic, involuntary flinch of pure fear.

"Being a gay isn't enough; you even had the nerves to announce it on social media!" The man's face contorted with disgust, his eyes blazing.

"Father, I'm sorry," I whispered, the words catching in my throat, barely audible. My so-called father's gaze sharpened, glaring daggers that pinned me in place, and I clamped my lips shut, my apology dying unspoken.

"You know what? I wished I killed you along with that woman. At least I'll have peace of mind." The growl deepened, menacing and cold. Before I could even register the threat, I felt a violent shove. My back slammed against the wall, the impact jarring my teeth, and then his hands were around my neck, strangling me.

I clawed at his grip, desperate, but my limbs felt like limp, useless things. My body, slender and without the curves of a woman, offered no resistance. I might not have possessed striking features, but I was easily among the fairly cute, and at nearly eighteen, I wasn't particularly tall. "Father," I gasped, the word a faint, choked plea. The only reply was a brutal punch that snapped my head back, and his grip on my throat tightened further, squeezing the very air from my lungs.

"I'll kill you, Kim Tae," the man hissed, every syllable dripping with raw hatred. My vision blurred, a swirling kaleidoscope of dark spots, then... blank.

Everything was gone, a void, yet a faint whisper of sound reached me. Footsteps. Someone entered the room. "Good job, my lovely Tae Jim. Now all his mother left him would be ours." The voice, undeniably familiar, was a woman's. I summoned the last vestiges of strength, forcing my eyelids open just enough to peek at the figure now bending over me, confirming if I was truly dead. My suspicions were chillingly confirmed: it was Su Lin Tae, my stepmother.

"He's not dead yet, but we can inject him with..."

Their hushed conversation faded as she eventually left. The fox spirit who had seduced my father, leaving a trail of ruin, was finally gone. But the brief flicker of joy I felt was instantly thrown down the building when she returned. Her movements were swift, merciless. She forcefully injected me with a substance, and a cold certainty washed over me. My pulse faltered. Instantly. This was my end. I knew it. Yes, I was dead. I died without ever having my revenge. If I hadn't been benefiting from the so-called Tae, I would have killed him myself. I just wished I could be reborn, like in most web novels...

Rebirth as Kim Woo

I tried to move, but a sharp pain shot through my head. I managed to sit up, my sense of smell immediately picking up the familiar, sterile scent of disinfectant lingering in the air. My fingers instinctively went to my head, finding it bandaged. But wait, I hadn't been injured there. Hadn't I died? Didn't that so-called father of mine and his vixen make sure to kill me? Confusion swirled in my mind.

A slight creak of the door made me alert. I snapped my head toward the sound, and a slender female figure practically launched herself at me, showering my face with kisses. Ugh. Right from the start, I never liked people acting this way. I gently pushed her back, then studied her features. She wasn't bad, actually – good-looking, to be honest. But where did I know her from? She looked familiar, and a name slipped from my lips almost subconsciously: "Young-i?"

Her eyes, swollen from what looked like a lot of crying, widened as fresh tears welled. The fact that my heart inexplicably ached as she sobbed was something I couldn't quite grasp. She threw herself at me again, this time hugging me as if terrified I would vanish. "I'll go call Mom!" the lady blurted out, rushing from the room.

Mom? Which mom? All I knew was that my mom was dead; I'd put her in her grave, so I was certain she was gone. No one had ever truly accepted me as their son, not even Tae Jim's wife. My thoughts were abruptly interrupted by a powerful, motherly hug.

"Mom missed you, my child. How are you feeling? Where does it hurt?" the woman asked, her voice thick with concern, her eyes also swollen. Who were these people? I tried desperately to remember, but my head pulsed with such intense pain that I squinted my eyes, clutching my temples. The woman affectionately placed a hand on my shoulder. "Kim dear, what is it? Does your head hurt? Mommy will get a doctor!" she exclaimed, rushing out.

She knew my name. How? All this while, I'd been sitting on this hospital bed like an alien, unable to understand anything. What had happened to me?

Suddenly, an urgent need to use the bathroom hit me. I splashed water on my face, then reached for a towel. When I looked in the mirror... What the...? This was a disaster. My face... no... no... I touched it, utterly bewildered. What had happened to my face?

This new face was incredibly handsome, with a thin, long, pointed nose, captivatingly shaped eyes, and eyeballs that were almost cat-like. My lips were a sexy, curved pink. If you couldn't differentiate, you'd easily call me a lady, especially with my long, bluish-purple hair. I wondered if the hair was dyed or natural. My new skin was perfectly maintained and fair. My right ear was pierced, a round gold earring visible. My eye color was a striking bluish-ash. I was tall with a good body structure, yet I still looked almost feminine. From afar, you would bet your life I was a lady. This new body seemed to belong to a teenager too, approximately seventeen to nineteen.

Surprisingly, I seemed to love the new looks. I stayed in the bathroom for almost an hour, but what was I even doing there? Of course, I was checking myself. Had my old, ugly face been damaged and replaced with this handsome one? But no, what about the body? It wasn't mine either. So the question was, who was this? I dried my hands, and then it hit me. I was reborn, just like in the web novel.

I walked back to the place where I woke up, surprised to see a table laden with different kinds of food. That's when I realized I wasn't just hungry; I was starving. I walked gracefully and sat on the bed, finally taking in the room. This room—it was a VVIP (Very Very Important Person) suite. That meant this family must have serious money.

"Kim, please eat something," the woman who called me son said, her voice gentle.

A flicker of a flashback, indistinct and hazy, crossed my mind. "Mrs. Woo," I said, the words low and harsh, filled with a sudden, unexplained bitterness.

The woman's face crumpled, clearly heartbroken. "Can't you at least forget about your differences for now? Our third master just woke up after ten years in a coma. Thanks to Heaven, his growth wasn't affected, but please, let's not argue," Young-i pleaded.

I didn't argue further. I casually picked up a bowl of soup and drank it. This body didn't seem to be a heavy eater; I felt full almost immediately. Everything was cleared from the table, and then I was served fruit. I seemed to remember something else, and I subtly scanned the room. As expected, I didn't find who I was looking for. A sneer crept onto my face.

"As expected, he didn't come," I found myself saying in a cold voice. My whole demeanor was just cold and emotionless. I maintained a straight, unyielding expression.

"Brother Kim, please don't create a scene," a male voice spoke, belonging to a handsome blonde man, about twenty to twenty-two, who looked a bit cautious, as if afraid of angering me. I gave him a cutting glare. His name clicked into place.

"Tell me, Brother Hyung, are you happy that your little brother is alive?" I asked with another sneer, my tone laced with accusation. My sudden question caused all eyes to dart from me to the blonde man.

"Yes, why wouldn't I want my little Ki-Ki to wake?" the accused man replied, though his smile seemed forced.

I allowed a brief smirk, and then my expression turned cold again. "I want to go home," I stated.

Shortly after, a Bentley pulled up to the hospital gate. We left. I was surprised at my own actions. How did I know these people, and how did I command such things? Regardless, I'd have to stay with them, as I'd started a new life.

The car drove into a massive mansion. As if I knew the place intimately, I climbed out of the car and headed directly to my room. Walking through the house, I could feel the surprised gazes of the house helps, but as if I were used to it, I simply passed them and entered my room. Now, I was reborn as Kim Woo. Even though our first names were the same, I felt that I was possessing a lot. And this new body was clearly that of a spoiled brat.

old Woo

I was very happy, knowing that I was reborn. Now I could take my revenge on the Tae family. Whatever happened, I'd never reveal that I wasn't their son. A knock cleaved through my thoughts. "Come in," I said, a coldness in my voice that surprised even me. My 'other' Kim never spoke like this new Kim.

A man in his fifties, though well-maintained and looking closer to his late forties, stepped in. "Old Woo," I sneered. His expression soured, but he held his ground.

"How are you feeling, dear?" he asked, a forced fatherly tone in his voice. A hint of mockery flashed in my newly beautiful eyes.

"Like you care," I retorted.

"I do care," the man insisted, taking a few steps closer until a foot of space separated us. "You are my blood, Ki-Ki. There's no way I won't care."

I sneered again. "If you had loved me, you wouldn't have let that woman take me. It was all because of you that I went into a coma at the age of seven. You should thank your stars that my growth and health were maintained." My voice was calm, but that cold aura simply wouldn't leave me.

"I tried, but..." he began, but I cut him short.

"You were a coward." He shook his head, denying my accusation.

"After you separated with her, I was happy, but then she took me," I said, a bitter edge to my tone.

"I'm sorry, son," he offered.

I smirked. "Get out," I ordered, and without a second thought, he left.

Was I being too unreasonable? They weren't my real family, and I was treating them this way. Even if they made mistakes, I should be happy that they were willing to make amends. I sat down on my king-sized bed and drifted back to my childhood.

Flashback

I was five years old. A child with bluish-purple hair ran to hug his father. That child was me. I hugged a younger version of Old Woo. We got along well.

"Woo Master, please spare me! I'll never do it again!" A woman of about twenty-four was crying and pleading as they dragged her out. "At least give my baby back to me!" She reached out a hand to carry me, but I clung to my father, refusing to go with her. She had been using me to ruin our family, even sending me to poison my father. But even at my young age, I was so clever. My father divorced her, and we lived happily until my seventh birthday.

I was elegantly dressed in black pants and a white shirt. My hair was short but reached my shoulder. After the celebration, the lights turned off, and I was suddenly dragged out.

"Yan Yan, what is wrong with you? Let Kimi go!" Mrs. Woo cried.

"Kimi is my child!" my mother, Yan Yan, shrieked and ran off with me. My Old Woo sent people to look for me, but he couldn't find me. Yan Yan used me to threaten Old Woo. But finally, I was found. Yet, later on, Yan Yan continued to bother our family. I was passing by and overheard Mrs. Woo and Old Woo speaking. I never wanted to eavesdrop, but when I heard my name, I paused in my tracks.

"Ki-Ki should go to Yan," Old Woo said.

"Old Woo, don't you think he will spoil?" Mrs. Woo questioned.

"No, Jiang, he will be just fine. If he doesn't go, she will keep on disturbing us," Old Woo insisted.

I was now with Yan, and I was utterly sad. I hated Old Woo and Mrs. Woo. I found a way to run, and I succeeded, but when I reached home, my attitude had completely changed. I fought with everyone and even called my father by his name, "Old Woo." But when he tried returning me to Yan Yan, I had to commit suicide. I cut my hand with a knife, and that was how I fell into a coma.

Flashback Ends

I left my room and found Old Woo sitting on the couch, his mood all gloomy. I passed him without a word and ordered our driver to take me out. We stopped at a club. Clubs were usually only for eighteen-year-olds, but because of our influence in the city, I was allowed to go anywhere I wanted. We entered the club, and I told the driver to wait outside for me.
