The Problem Child

Trevor The Problem Child

Chloe looked at the kid seated at the corner of the class. She and her friends have been watching him for a while now. The ebony haired boy was known to the whole school. The infamous Rebellious Kid. He was laying down on his desk, with his head facing the wall. And was he..... Shaking?

They wondered if he was crying. Maybe he got into a fight and got hurt a little too badly? Or worse, was he being abused by someone in any way? It would make total sense because that would explain the long faded scars on his lean body and the arrogant behavior of his.

They couldn't help but worry. True, he was a rather reckless and rude guy. But what if he really needed help?

The group of friends decided to go check in on their fellow classmate. As they reached near the boys' desk, they hesitated. What if he doesn't like them encountering him like this? What if he burst out at them? What if he-- Shaking off the thought immediately, Chloe put a hand on the boy's shoulder. She felt them shoulders stiffen.

"Trevor?" She called and his head jolted up at her direction.

Smokey hazel eyes gazed up at her. Those eyes soon started to form themselves into a glare.

Chloe was taken aback by what she saw.

"Whut?" Trevor spoke with his mouth full of chips. Tiny food grains stuck around his mouth. Chloe felt stupid for ever looking out for someone like Trevor Hillinger. Worse, he had that look of despise and annoyance etched on his face.

"I... Forget it" Chloe pursed her lips and she felt even more stupid when Trevor gave her a look of disgust. Something she clearly wasn't expecting on a fine Monday morning.

She turned around to see the same feel of stupidity etched on her friends' faces.

"What the **** is wrong with them?" Trevor murmered as Chloe and her friends walked away. That only enraged one of the girls who turned around to hopefully kick his ***.

But the already angry kitten only got even angrier (if that was even possible) when she saw him throw the empty plastic bag which once contained chips, on to the school's beautifully mowed lawn, through the window.

"I am reporting you to the principal!"

***

Trevor watched as the bald man, who everyone addresses as the principal, lectured him about how "inappropriate" his behaviour was. He felt hypnotised by the shiny head of the principal. It looked like an egg. A shiny egg. It looked so breakable. He could almost see his reflection on it.

Does he oil it everyday?

The thought made him smirk.

"Is something amusing you, Mr Hillinger?" The principal asked, quirking up an eyebrow, already tired out by lecturing.

Trevor visited the principal's office on a daily basis and he had already gotten weary of seeing the same face every single day.

The principal was running out of advice to give Trevor. There was nothing he could say or do to make this boy stop causing trouble. The worst part was, it was really hard for anyone to get stuff through that thick skull of his. It's a miracle if anyone managed to do that.

"Nope" Trevor said popping the 'p'. He was still smirking.

The principal shook his head and let out an exhausted sigh. "I don't see any point in trying to talk sense into you, Hillinger. You may leave now"

Trevor gave himself a curt nod and turned around on the heels of his shoes. He walked to the door and turned the door knob.

He got out of the principal's office and stretched his arms, popping some bones. The door closed behind him with a low click.

He knew he had math class in room 112 and he was already feeling sleepy, just by the thought of it.

Sure, math teachers sing the best lullabies ever...

He was not in a mood to listen to that lullaby. So he decided to go and smoke somewhere peaceful.

•••

Trevor sat at the foundation in front of the school. According to him, that was the only peaceful place in that crowded school full of nerds and grumpy teachers.

He tensed up a bit as he felt foot steps approaching him.

He really didn't want one of his teachers to catch him smoking. Not because it would make him seem like a rogue and bad, but because he didn't want to be sent to the principal's office again. It hasn't even been ten minutes since he stepped out of that bald head's office. Moreover, it stinked of discipline in there. And he hated it.

"Dude!" Trevor choked on his cigarette as his best friend planted a playful, yet painful and heavy punch on his back. He hated it when he did that. Catching him off guard and all.

"Conner! Stop doing that" Trevor said through gritted teeth as he grabbed Conner's hand and flipped it back, earning a squeaky yelp from him.

"Ow ow ow ouchie owww" Conner knew very well how much Trevor hated it when he punched him on the back. But he just could not help doing it every time he saw him. Even though it always ended him up with a black eye for the least. It was fun.

"I thought you were in class. So I went to check and you were not there. Then I wandered the whole school, searching for you. Are you not a lucky champ to have such a great and amazing friend like me? Blink, blink, blink, blinkety, blink, blink, blink" Conner said waving his hand around wildly, and furiously batting his eyes for the last part.

"What is it that you want, Kon? And were you really just saying 'blink'?" Trevor shook his head at how silly his pal was and started to take another puff of his cig.

"Well, since you asked, I ran out of cigarettes and thanks" Conner grabbed the cigarette off of Trevor's hand.

"Conner, you asshole, I was about to take a puff!" Trevor never likes it when someone interrupt what he was doing. And Conner just happens to interrupt everything he does. And he hated him for that.

"Oh yeah? Poor you" Conner mock pouted and jumped up from his spot before Trevor could grab him.

The both of them burst out into a fully blown fight. Well, it was more like a friendly match because they were both pulling their punches. But to someone watching the show from the outside, it was clearly a fully blown fight because, even though they pulled their punches, they still managed to give each other's skin a shade of purple. Anyone who is watching would definitely cringe at the sight and would only have them mistaken for vicious rivals.

They wrestled for a pretty few minutes, each of them giving each other a fair share of punches and kicks.

In the end, they were both grinning like silly goofballs. Like they were enjoying some inside joke.

Trevor kicked Conner in the gut and grabbed his neck, putting his head in a lock. Just as he was about to make himself drop to the ground with Conner in a head-lock, a small group of boys came running towards them, seemingly to "stop the fight".

Oh, how he hated to be interrupted like that...

Proclaimed Enemies

"Hey!" A group of boys called out as they were running towards the duo, each of them glaring daggers at Trevor as Conner seemed to be the victim being bullied.

Trevor shook his head in annoyance and disappointment as he freed Conner from his grip.

"Hey, man. You okay there?" Some guy with brunette hair asked Conner as he shot a furious glare at Trevor.

Show off. Trevor scowled at the boy.

"Aw, man. It was just about to get funny. You ruined it" Conner said rubbing the side of his neck disappointedly, putting on a little pout as he always did when something saddened him.

"Whoa whoa whoa. Wait a second,...Funny? You think having your neck broke is funny? Weren't you guys, like,... fighting? " the brunette asked, throwing his arms up in the air.

"No, stupid" Trevor scoffed and bend down to take Conner's baseball cap that fell off during the "fight". He dusted the dirt off of it and handed it over to Conner, who squealed and hugged the cap before wearing it on his head.

The guy pursed his lips. "The name is Joshua" he told Trevor, clearly disappointed by what he had called him.

"Stu-pid" Trevor said grimly, pointing his index finger just a few inches away from Joshua's face. He thought he looked intimadating.

Joshua just scrunged his nose up at the action and slapped away Trevor's fingers, annoyed.

Conner wanted to know where this was going.

When one show is ruined, yet another one starts...

He watched the boys with the biggest smile he could do. But unfortunately for him, another guy came running out of nowhere and started pushing the duo apart from each other.

"Hey, hey, what's going on here?" The guy stood in between Trevor and Joshua.

He was a few inches taller than Trevor and he stood like a tower in front of him, reducing Trevor to just some angry little puppy. There was no way he was going to win a fight against him. But Trevor being the stubborn kid he is, covered up his inferiority with his God-level ego. He stood there with his chest held high keeping his face even more grim than it usually is.

"These guys..." Joshua started, but trailed off as he tried to figure out what to say exactly.

Really, who was at fault here? These guys who got shit for brains or them who tried to interrupt their "fun time"? Joshua sighed.

"It's... It's nothing, Cha" He shook his head.

'Cha' turned his head and looked Trevor up and down. Trevor pushed his chest up and pointed his nose out in the air. He thought that would make him look superior.

In reality, it only made him look like a little child trying to hold his head high.

An involuntary chuckle escaped "Cha's" lips as he stared at the boy with amused eyes.

Charlie too stood there like he owned the place. He stared back at Trevor with the same intesnse gaze he sent his way, more of a who- even-is-this-little-guy kund of look. He wasn't going to back away either.

They would have continued the staring competition for a little longer. But the school bell rang and both the group of boys went their seperate ways.

They already proclaimed each other as enemies. Trevor and Conner hated Joshua and 'Cha' and vice versa.

You Are Late

"Damn it, Charlie. We are going to be late for class" Joshua cursed under his breath as he hurried towards room 128. He kept muttering prayer words as he dragged Charlie behind him.

"Come on Josh. Mr. Goodman is not that bad of a person. He would let us in without making a show. Also, we are not that late to start with. It's only been six minutes" Charlie said as he tried to keep up with his best friend's speed walking.

"Yeah. He wouldn't yell at you. He would never! Because you are the 'golden student'. But he is gonna sue me. Because I am just an average guy who score average grades. Now, stop talking and hurry up!I don't want this to be my last words" Joshua yelled throwing his arms up in the air, all furious and Charlie couldn't help but chuckle at how tensed up his friend seemed.

He was right. Charlie always manages to get straight As. So, none of the teachers really bothered what he did in class, or if he even attended them as long as he kept up his grades.

After another few moments of walking in a hurried pace, they reached room 128 and Joshua started taking deep breaths getting himself ready for the doom that awaited him.

"Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exh--"

Before he could finish his breathing exercise, Charlie knocked on the door.

"Hey!" Josh whisper yelled and Charlie gave him a cheeky smile.

Josh cursed under his breath as he prepared himself to face the wrath of the filthy animal who just happened to be their history teacher.

A grim "Come in" was heard from the other side of the door and Charlie opened it.

"Carlton. You are late" Mr. Goodman said with a warm expression and gestured for him to go and have a seat.

He was not at all angry. It was almost as if Charlie had come after winning a championship in a football tournament.

Josh tried to sneak in with Charlie, hiding behind his back. But it turned out Mr. Goodman spotted him.

"Carmel! You're late!" Same words. Different tone.

Joshua stopped in his tracks and bitterly turned around to face the angry teacher.

"Sorry, Sir" Josh muttered out.

"Sorry? Do you realize you are late by..." Mr. Goodman checked his watch for the time and then continued "six minutes and thirty seven seconds? Do you even have an excuse, Carmel?!" He roared. Josh looked down at the floor. He never realised the floor could be  something so interesting to look at. Not until now. He mentally cursed himself as thinking of an excuse to come up with never occured to him. It would have saved him a lots of trouble if he just had thought of a perfect excuse.

As if of cue, he heard a familiar voice speaking for him.

"Sir, it-- It was my fault, Mr Goodman. He was helping me with a little something" Charlie stepped in interfering the conversation.

He was lying. In reality, It was Josh who decided to spend a little more time hanging out in the basketball court until he realised it was too late.

Mr. Goodman's expression softened and he heaved a heavy sigh. "Please, go ahead and get seated" he said in a low and calm voice, gesturing to the rest of the class and turned to his desk. Charlie and Josh went to the only pair of empty seats in the class, which unfortunately happened to be the ones in front of their proclaimed enemies, Trevor and Conner.

Conner was glaring at the duo, threateningly stabbing his table with his pen.

Oh, how he wished it was them in the place of that wooden table...

Trevor kicked Josh's chair as soon as he sat down. Josh turned around on his seat and glared at him, hissing his hatred.

"Class! I'm distributing the papers of last month's test. Be quiet" Mr. Goodman ordered and Josh turned his back on Trevor. He noticed him stick his tongue out just before he did so.

Asshole. Josh thought as he drummed his fingers on the desk, while nervously waiting to know his scores.
