CROSSROADS WITH MIRIN THE SENSELESS

Mirin is a high school girl who considers herself mysterious but quite popular with men. She had no idea how to politely reject a man until she learned from her previous relationship. She doesn't learn her lesson until she runs across her childhood friend Leo, and what a crossroads that seems to be. Mirin sees Leo as a feminine guy, while Leo sees Mirin as a pain in the ***, but all of this will change thanks to the confession. A confession about secrets and realization instead of love. First day of school? Nah too common. I just met my friend who visited my school for research purposes.

“It’s been a long time since we met and YOU HAD ALREADY A FRIEND?...FRIENDS?!I’m jealous”. Murmur

Although Xie and I are not currently engaged in conversations, we both acknowledge that we are still friends, regardless of the circumstances. In fact, it was Xie who took the initiative to approach me first back when we were juniors. At that time, I must admit I didn't particularly warm up to her, as she seemed too extroverted, talkative, and overly friendly for my taste.

However, little did I know that our friendship would blossom into something special over time. It's funny how fate works sometimes, bringing unlikely individuals together and forming unexpected bonds.

Wish I had more time to talk with Xie “Goodluck with your research, see you never”.

Mumble “This asshole but so glad we met”.

Mirin holds a special place in my heart, as she was the very first person who embraced me with open arms and accepted me for who I am, without any doubt. I made a solemn promise to myself that I would always be by her side, come what may.

However, due to our academic pursuits, we ended up parting ways and enrolling in different schools. Mirin is naturally quiet, not the type of person who readily initiates friendships or socializes with others.

This worries me, as I am afraid that she might struggle to make new friends, especially considering that most of her former friends have also changed schools or are in different classes. It saddens me to see her potentially feeling isolated or left out, as I know firsthand the value of genuine friendship and the impact it can have on one's well-being.

“You idiot!” But still, I’m very happy to see you with your new friends. I’m glad you haven’t change how you treated me.

Xie is energetic as usual, she even called me idiot ahahah.

“Your so slow..wait is that Xie?” Marco asked.

“Ahhhhhh I see, ja let’s go its almost class time”.

I had the pleasure of meeting three amazing individuals - Marco, Akari, and Emi. Although we were acquainted with each other's names before, we weren't particularly close, except for Marco, who happened to be my classmate in primary school and became my first close friend among the three. However, as time went on, our bond grew stronger, and we formed a tight-knit group.

What made our friendship special was the striking similarities we shared. We were all achievers, holding officer positions in our respective classes. We often found ourselves enjoying lunch together, gaslighting others ahahah. We also discovered a mutual passion for reading, with the exception of Marco and Akari, who weren't as fond of books, just me and Emi. However, what truly brought us together was our shared obsession with anime, except for Akari, who had a special love for Kdramas.

Our afternoons were filled with lively conversations and laughter as we walked to our classroom, occasionally indulging in some playful gaslighting of our fellow classmates along the way. It was these shared moments of camaraderie and companionship that made our friendship flourish, and we cherished every second of it.

“Oy Emi did you finish your artworks”. Mirin is so cold when talking but I can feel her worriness when it comes in her friends project. She always think about others than herself.

“Yeahhh, you should start the next chapter for the film since you’re one of our producers”.

As expected, what a lazy human being. She is always so chill then rushes for the last hour. What a pain in the ***.

The day concluded with a practice session for the upcoming film, as part of our school's anniversary celebration next week. Our school has invited other schools to participate, and I can't help but feel concerned for Mirin. I'm certain that Tor will come to see her, as he is known to go to great lengths for her sake. It's quite remarkable, albeit a little obsessive.

“Takecare guys”. Mirin said with a wave and smile.

“Oy Emi, our anniversary is nearly coming, I know Mirin saw the post in webbook”. Akari whispered

“Yeah I know,-sigh, Tor’s family is one of the guest speakers, but I trust Mirin, they broke up..that’s all, Tor just don’t want to give up on her, he’s obsessed”. I don’t want Akari saw me worry too. “Right Marco?”.

“Yeah whatever, this is going to be interesting”. Marco replied.

I am so so happy that Mirin's house is located in close proximity to our school, as it is incredibly convenient for us. We often end up staying over at her place, particularly when we have projects or other activities that require us to work late into the night. Despite Mirin's outward strength, we are aware that she struggles with Tor, but she can't seem to shake him off.

As her friends, we are always there to support her, as she tends to be indecisive and has difficulty expressing herself clearly. Nevertheless, we understand that she has many answers within her, even if she struggles to respond. Mirin is fortunate to have us three by her side, offering our unwavering support and companionship.

“Ahhghhgh, I’m starving..you guys are so slow walking arghhhyajdhai-zombie noise”. Marco asked with a pissed face of hungriness.

“Pfft let’s go”. Akari demanded then walked.

Akari’s POV

“Umm I-i know you’re graduating soon so umm please just take it..bye Kari”. Rushes back to their room.

A confession?…with a girl?..but I’m straight-sigh.

“I know you both are watching, get out”.

“Well um hahah, how’s it going..Kari-chan?”. Mirin teasingly said.

Burst out laughing. “Aahahah Kari..chan?…Karichwan!” Another Emi hear who is dying of laughter.

“ARE.YOU.DONE?!”

“Right, where’s Marco?” I knew it, Marco is not here…yes, if he’s here he’ll do the same thing, laughing and teasing..hayst.

“Well president on duty”. Mirin replied.

“And he’s actually sleeping when they called him ahahahah, they interrupted his sleep ahahahahah, if only you saw how frustrated he is bwahaahahh”. Emi added.

Our teacher spot us in the locker “Hey you three go help your classmates decorate”. Teacher stated.

Yeah right our foundation is coming *secretly looking at Mirin*

“GOOOOOD MOOORNING Mater Studentss!!!!!” Our principal greeted excitingly.

As an introverted soul, I often struggle to cope with excessive energy and noise. Today, as usual during our school's foundation day, we have various events planned, with teams assigned to different colors such as Yellow Dragon, Red Phoenix (which happens to be our team), Green Puma, and Blue Ox. This three-day celebration of our school's foundation/anniversary includes a chess competition, basketball and volleyball matches for both boys and girls, as well as a film event.

During the announcement by the speakers, we were informed that Tor's father would be our special guest, as he is one of our sponsors.

“First match Green Puma and Red Phoenix, Let the ball game begins!!!”. Mr. Roi, our principal, yelled.

Akari is in-charge in the film event, while Marco is occupied with various tasks in the office. Emi and I are preparing for the upcoming chess match. The Green Puma team appears to be quite tall, and I assume they may have an advantage in terms of strategy.

However, height alone does not guarantee victory; after all, even if you are tall, if you can be easily deceived, it is of no use. We are determined to win this match.

As per the rules, only chess players and their coaches are allowed in the room. However, as expected, Tor is here, watching us. But let's keep our cool, Mirin. Remember to inhale and exhale to stay focused.

*2 hours had passed*

“20 points for the Red Phoenix”. The announcer said.

“She’s so great”.

“I always wanted to play against her”.

*mumble* *mumble*

I immediately went out the room leaving Emi and others congratulating and giving praise to her after they announced the score. I can’t handle to see him in a suit, it’s my first time seeing him in a suit, he’s so fine not gonna lie.

“Why the hell I can’t beat you”. Whispered.

While walking, I think I passed someone and is talking to me, he sounded familiar though.

“Le-Leo?” I know it’s him but I wonder why he sounded so disappointed.

He sure walked fast ahahahah.

“I trained my cousin to play chess for years…FOR YEARSS” Leo really sounded so disappointed and I didn’t expect him to be here first, with that long legs his step is really bigger than mine.

“Pfft ahaahah so you are her coach, long time no talk Leo”.

It’s been a log time since we met and I really missed him. Life’s so unfair, everything looks good on him, I envy him arghh so jealous. I’ve always wanted to be a man.

“Yeah I know but I’m just here to watch her and I’m going back to study again”. Leo said.

“ I shouldn’t have taught you how to play chess, hmmp”. He added and frowned. Acting frustrated in a cute way hah.

Snort. “It’s your fault, well, when are you going back?" I stopped walking and asked him out of curiosity.

He went to me and hugged me, maybe he misses me more than I do ahahahah. *assuming*

“Today”. He whispered and hugged me tighty.

“Oy if everything is not that good you can tell me, this hug is making me breathlessshshsh”.

“Its just a pain that I can’t have a long talk with you”. He pouted.

“But I’ll chat you later, I have many things to say…Like manyyyy, plent-tyyy”. Leo added.

He leave me speechless, I know he’s going to say that, he didn’t changed after all. I just responded him with a smile. Then he hugged me one last time again today before going back.

“See you when I get back”. He warmly said.

“Yeah I know, takecare”. I replied then let go since I spotted auntie(his mother).

“Your suit looks good on you, I’m so Jealous, send my regards to Auntie Mai and Uncle Loo”.

He chuckled. “ I know hahahahhaii(yes) I’ll send it to them…and jealous well Mirinnnnn”.

He said out loud with a waving hands while laughing.

He never disappoint to made my day. While walking I spotted someone leaning in the room, seems familiar but I don’t mind I’m going to check the three idiots.

Tor’s POV

She’s really a great art, and if only we weren't so childish back then, maybe... maybe I would have been by her side all the time.

I noticed her leaving the room after they announced the points, and I found myself inexplicably following her. I know it's not a good idea, but what the heck is wrong with me? Seeing her with that guy who looks so girly just... argh, I don't know. suddenly realizes Am I jealous of him... again?

“I know hahahahhaii(yes) I’ll send it to them…and jealous well Mirinnnnn”.

I hope I can talk to you too Leo, but what is done is done. Mirin is not coming back.

Wait, that's strange. Did she... did she just pass by me without noticing? She didn't feel my presence? Ah, how amusing. Maybe Rin didn't see me. Right, I'm sure she's heading to see her friends, her precious friends. That's it, they are so precious to her that she chose them over me.

Flashback

16 years old Mirin and 18 years old Tor.

Maternite High School

“Teacher told me she’s not going due to her loaded works so she said to just continue our portfolio and submit it tomorrow”. Marco rushed to the room to announce such great news.

Lucky for us, we all finished our portfolio. We all know teacher’s not coming today heheheh. I guess I’ll just asked them three for some ideas, this day is driving me crazy!!!

“Hey Marco what do you guys want as a gift? A cologne, tie, watch, shirt, wallet?”.

“What about you Akari, what did you buy on your brother’s birthday?”.

“Emi! You have a brother too right”.

“Food”. They all say at the same time.

Woooow food that really helped me…a lot, but they answer it immediately after I asked them hmm are they hungry?

“Rin, Tor appreciate everything as long as it came from you, no matter how little it is. For Tor everything is balance and fair, you know that right?”.

*sparkly eyes*

“Aww Marco you act like my big brother.”

“He doesn’t lack of everything, he quite have the money, greet is enough and just give us your gift-thumbs up”. Marco added.

“Shut up”.

After an hour the class ended.

And I ended up buying him a bracelet.

(Different place same time)

Alderzerg College

For weeks, I had been meticulously planning what to buy for Rin. She's such a quirky and clumsy girl, always stumbling and tripping over things. If only there was a potion that could cure her clumsiness, I would have brewed a whole pool of it just for her! Despite her occasional missteps, I find myself wanting to protect and love her even more.

But what gift would be perfect for her? Maybe a chessboard? I know she's a big fan of chess and has a collection of chess sets. I can already imagine the excitement on her face when she sees it, and perhaps she'll be too engrossed in playing chess to pay attention to me.

As much as I want to see her happy, I can't help but feel a twinge of jealousy at the thought of her being occupied with the chessboard and not needing my attention. So, I guess a chessboard is a no for now, sorry Rin, not today. Haha, I can just imagine her reaction!

After an hour the class ended.

“Tor may I have a word?”.

“D-dad? I did not punch anyone, I swear!.” Did my teacher call dad, but I didn’t do anything.

“I know ahahah, let’s talk on our way”.

“But I had something to do its-“

*smile* “I know Tor, I’m here to help you buy Rin a gift”.

And I ended up buying her a bracelet.

“1, 2, 3, ta-daaa”. Mirin excitedly count and showed our gifts together.

I am well aware that Mirin loves peaceful and serene places. My dad had mentioned to me that he had a conversation with Mirin, during which she had expressed her fondness for the spot where we currently are. With this in mind, I decided to bring Mirin here, hoping to see her genuine smile, even if just for a little longer.

As we stood there, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disappointment. Mirin's actions during our time together had been frustrating, to say the least. Despite my efforts to create a special moment for us, she had done things that had made me furious. I knew I couldn't ignore it any longer, and as I hugged her for what might be the last time, I did so with a heavy heart.

“I’m very disappointed in you Rin”.

Mirin’s POV

“I’m very disappointed in you Rin”.

His hug is warm but his voice are colder than the winter breeze. It is so sudden, why did he said that, I-I’m, I don’t know but it makes me wanna cry by the words he said.

“H-Huh?”.

It is my first time to hear such words from him and I want to look him in the face but he insisted to hug me tight.

“Mirin, you should’ve just told me earlier, dad told me he had a conversation with you and he said that you disagreed with his decision”.

I didn’t know voice can be teary too. The way he talked is just-I’m actually scared what will happen next but-

“That’s true, love can indeed lead to wrong decisions, I’m sorry”. I said to him calmly while patting his back.

“BUT IT’S FOR YOUR OWN GOOD! It’s- it’s for you Mirin!”.

Crying and talking like a baby, that is so very Tor.

“I know, your father is very supportive and caring, he told me that he will do anything just to see you living your best life. He even wants me to study the same college with you but the college your taking in is exclusively for the one’s who want to be a doctor and a businessman”.

No responds just listening, anyways I’ll take this chance to explain.

“I don’t see myself being a doctor nor a business-minded woman, I love art, art intrigues me the most. Maybe it’s also the time that we take different paths but still connected, you don’t have to worry so much, you had your friends and I also had mine”.

Oh he actually let go of me, maybe he calmed a little.

Tor’s POV

She said those words to me in a calm way but after I heard her saying those things, I let go of her. It makes me wanna puke.

“HAHAHAHAH, ARE YOU NUTS?! MIRIN AREN’T YOU HAPPY? WE’LL BE SEEING EACH OTHER OFTEN, ISN’T THAT WHAT YOU LIKE?! IS IT BECAUSE YOU CAN’T LEAVE THOSE ASSHOLES, DAD ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE FOUR OF YOU DECIDED TO STUDY ARTS, ARE THEY THAT IMPORTANT TO YOU THAN ME?! ARE THEY THAT PRECIOUS TO YOU?!”

The hell is wrong with me, I’m done.

“WE JUST HAPPEN TO LOVE ARTS!!! YOU CAN’T JUST DECIDE WHERE I WANT TO STUDY AND WHAT I WANT TO BE EVEN IF I’M YOUR WOMAN!!!”.

Oh no she’s being teary, Rin is trembling, what the fvck man.

I find it difficult to look at her with those pleading eyes and hear her voice trembling with emotion. It's a painful reminder that love can sometimes lead us to make bad decisions. I'm sorry, Mirin, but I'm at a loss for words on how to stop this. I know I'm the one at fault here, acting like an asshole.

Mirin’s POV

What the hell just happened? We were just okay a while ago even yesterday, we barely fight about stuffs but what just happen?

“HAHAHAHAH, ARE YOU NUTS?! MIRIN AREN’T YOU HAPPY? WE’LL BE SEEING EACH OTHER OFTEN, ISN’T THAT WHAT YOU LIKE?! IS IT BECAUSE YOU CAN’T LIVE THOSE ASSHOLES, DAD ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE FOUR OF YOU DECIDED TO STUDY ARTS, ARE THEY THAT IMPORTANT TO YOU THAN ME?! ARE THEY THAT PRECIOUS TO YOU?!”

Hearing such sharp words, I ended up walking to Emi’s place. I’m glad it’s not raining, Mom knows I’m with Tor but I don’t want to recall what just happen. I’ll make mom know I’m here.

“Mirin!” I can hear Emi’s panicking voice and makes me cry more.

*sobs-sobs*

They’re all here, what a coincidence. They wait for me to calm down until someone is ringing the doorbell, I bet it’s Tor, he always knew I’ll be here at Emi’s place whenever I’m upset or have problems.

Tor didn’t come inside instead called them all out except for me.

Emi’s POV

Oh shoot I just came back to cook dinner for the dumbheads but is that my other dumbheaded friend……eh? Mirin? she looks depressed!

*sigh*

I didn’t know what happened but I’m sure it’s a couple quarrel. We’ll just wait for her to calm down a bit.

*doorbell rings*

“What.did.you.do?!”

It’s my first time seeing Tor worried face like crazy, I can see in his face that he feel sorry and he regret what happen today.

“She’s here, just talk with her insid-“

“No I need to talk with you and Akari, Marco also please*bow his head*

“You sure? Just-just a second.”

It feels awkward hand signing each other without Mirin noticing, but I guess it’s important.

“We’re all here, what do you want”. It’s my house btw I should be the spokesperson heheh.

“Please protect Mirin on behalf of me, I know I’m on fault being childish having a thought that Mirin chose you than being with me but I just realized it after I said sharp words, I may not be able to see her but I’ll be back I promise and I want you guys to please enlighten her in life…she love arts, she really love arts, so pleasee…pleaseee-“

“I know you’re older than us but it’s a surprise seeing you cry about Mirin”.

“Are you really into her? You’re just overprotecting, you only need to trust her and have faith”.-proudly said it in front of them.

Wow Akari stealing my spot, you asshole.

“I guess you’re right, I just need to trust Mirin, but it’s too late. She did not tell me something but after letting her get out of my sight, I know she want to end our relationship”.

“I promise to come back and steal her again from you guys, but as of now you guys are Mirin’s precious friend so don’t break it”.

“We know, we know”. But what’s with the precious ahahahah, something is off.

“Promises are meant to be showed not just for talks”. My mouth slipped but it is for him to remind that promises are valuable to Mirin.

*Closed the door*

(After they closed the door they rushed to Mirin and hugged her then eventually Mirin told them what happened with a teary eyes.)

All I can say is that Tor is foolish and childish. I can't believe he thinks that way. We are friends with Mirin before they met each other and we understand our limitations when it comes to their relationship. Initially, we had doubts about Tor's intentions with Mirin.

He’s got the money, looks and only Mirin knew what kind of guy he is that time, but he proved us wrong by waiting for her for four months without changing how he treated her and this made us a little complacent or not to worry about them, but we didn't realize that Tor was giving us a bad reputation by making it seem like we wanted to take Mirin away from him, I can’t believe he’ll be jealous of us, what a toxic behavior. This caused him to become obsessed with her.

We love Mirin, but we would never try to steal her away or brainwash her. We are not that type of friend. I hope Tor will soon end his childish thoughts. What an idiot.

Tor’s POV

“Promises are meant to be showed not just for talks”.

Yeah thanks Emi and now I know why Mirin love you guys, maybe I’m just overprotective and insecure lately. Mirin wants me to adopt an environment where we practice not seeing each other and just focus on our studies, I know that’s her plan although it hurts me but I’ll endure it, your decisions are always helping me to grow.

So this is my last gift, so pretty…I promise you Mirin, we’ll see each other again.

Enough with those stupid thoughts Tor, they are really precious, they didn’t broke our promise. All I have to do is talk with Mirin umm no for the mean time I’ll just ask them(Emi, Akari, and Marco).

2 years had passed but she still love chess hayst such a beauty. Oh right I remember, Mirin mentioned before about his childhood friend that looked like a girl, so it’s Leo ahahah. I can’t believed I found myself hiding here just to hear their conversation but I’m just following Mirin I didn’t know she’ll bump with Leo mweheheheheh.

Anyways Red Phoenix gained 50 points, 20 points for the chess, another 20 points for winning basketball (10 each for boys and girls), and 10 points for making up to the semi finals in volleyball boys. Now volleyball girls is up next, I heard Akari is one of the players…I’m sure she’ll watch.

Mirin’s POV

“Fvck what time is it Emi?” I rushed to ask Emi since I forgot Akari had a match today.

“Shoot let’s go”. Emi immediately held my arm and run towards our covered court.

Oh that guy again, am I seeing things…is that T-Tor, I badly want to turn around but I’m going to fall, this idiot Emi! I’ll save it up, my dignity is much more important…I don’t want to get embarrass there are so many outsiders student here, even college.

Since the school is open and we’re allowed to go home any minute, I’m just going to go home and come back tomorrow.

What the hell? As soon as I walked into my room, my exhausted mind and fatigued body were jolted awake by a sudden shock that reverberated through me. Whatever the reason, my tears began to flow uncontrollably, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for this unexpected moment of tenderness and connection.
