As Jesse sit in a town car on the way for his latest novel, he muse over the events of the last few years.
linda (mc's agent)
... Read the section from chapter three, the one where he talks about the tulip bulbs.
Only half-listening to his agent, Linda, he continues to be lost in thought.

(it was only two years ago I published my first novel. And here I'm, about to autograph copies of my fourth.)

(I know I'm not a household name— yet. But, incredibly, I have fans now!)

and remember, when signing, the only thing included is the signature – personalization is extra...😠

although Jesse tries to stay positive, over the last few months, something's been...off.

jeez. I didn't get into this for the money. I became a novelist because I wanted to tell my stories. 😾

yeah, yeah. That's nice, and all, but one of us has to watch the bottom line.

you continue being the creative type. I'll be the brilliant mastermind that makes sure you don't go bankrupt.

also, even though I think you're paranoid, and it's in your head, I know you're still worried about fans going "too far"

so I asked the bookstore owner to hire a bodyguard for the event.

A bodyguard? actually, that does make me feel safer

I appreciate you doing that. it makes me feel a lot better knowing another set of eyes will be looking for anything weird.
Linda snorts and shakes her head, looking down at her cellphone.

(she looks a little flushed. and she's been looking at her phone alot lately...)

hm? no, nothing's wrong. I'm just excited about the signing!
under her breath, she mutters...

before Jesse can fully respond to her snark, the town car stops.

when they get out of the town car, Jesse's greeted by a kindly old man, still waving as Jesse approach.

Jesse smiles despite the tense car ride with Linda. He can't help it. The old man's energy is infectious.
