The Mafia's Honey Baby
Chapter 1 - Handsome Life
I sat down at the counter of a high-end bar late on a Friday evening and didn't dare look at the prices above me.
Stella Quinn
One tonic water, please.
The bartender gave me a curt nod, still acknowledging my presence despite not appearing to be... on the level of the other patrons.
I adjusted the edge of my dress, pulling it down until it was properly over my knees, and finally I began to wonder why on earth I was here.
Anica, my best friend since forever, had managed to get us a membership to this exclusive club just in time to celebrate her 18th birthday, but she bailed on me last minute.
Apparently, her possessive àss of a boyfriend doesn't want her socializing anymore either.
He already convinced her to quit her job, which she loved, and now she's keeping me from her?
He's acting like he owns her, it infuriates me.
My tonic water arrived, the glass pressed against one of those fancy stone slab coasters.
Is that real silver? Perhaps getting a membership here is a good investment after all.
Kidding. I'm not going to make a business out of stealing a bar's coasters.
I lifted up my tonic water, taking a long sip.
I'm 18 turning 19 now. I work part-time as an intern to an external branch of a large company while also attending classes at the university.
Anica paid for my membership here, even though I told her that it would be a waste of money.
I remember what she told me in return. "It's not a waste if I enjoy the end result."
She's a good person at heart. That's why we're friends after all.
Suddenly, the bar table which was once so empty gained a new patron.
I heard someone's clothes shift in the stool beside me, and I tried my best not to turn my head to see who they were.
Bartender
What can I get for you, Sir?
The bartender hadn't addressed me with such formality. Whoever is beside me must be important.
Not that I came here to meet important people.
Elliot Smith
A glass of Taittinger Comtes Blanc de Blancs vintage, from the year '98.
That... that's a $130,000 bottle of champagne!
The voice seemed youthful yet held a strange maturity to it.
It could trick you into thinking that he was older than he actually was.
Stella Quinn
Congratulations.
Elliot Smith
"Congratulations"?
Stella, shut up before you speak another word. You've already said too much, it isn't too late to leave.
Stella Quinn
Perhaps I was wrong, and you're ordering a bottle of champagne valued at $130,000 just because you feel like it.
I still haven't turned to look at him.
The bartender was long gone, probably to track down this priceless bottle of vintage from the vault underneath this club.
Elliot Smith
It isn't for me, but thank you for the sentiment.
Elliot Smith
What have you ordered?
I don't need to answer him.
I could almost feel him smile from where I was seated. No, I knew he was smiling.
Elliot Smith
Tonic water... that must mean that you're waiting for someone.
Stella Quinn
Seems like we've both read each other tonight.
Elliot Smith
That seems to be the case.

Chapter 2 - Handsome Men
There was a silence, a terrible silence, that desperately made me want to fill the void.
His voice was low, prickling at my ears and causing my heart to vibrate every time he spoke.
Elliot Smith
Your boyfriend must be taking a while.
Stella Quinn
I'm waiting for a friend.
Who stood me up, might I add.
No, that's not fair on Anica. I know that she can't say no to Roger.
The bartender suddenly returned, holding a very expensive bottle of champagne and two glasses.
My eyes followed the bartender around until the lights of the bar all dimmed, putting into perspective the man standing next to me.
He was pretty handsome, with silver hair and beautiful deep eyes that looked like an ocean you could get lost in.
Elliot Smith
I must return to my Boss, but have a lovely evening, Miss.
I turned around to see who he was smiling at, and I regretted it the moment I laid eyes on him.
My eyes fell on a person that I could only describe looking like a fallen angel.
I couldn't tell the color of his eyes, but they ignited something underneath my skin.
His lips drew into a harsh smile, drawing attention towards his sharp jaw.
He was tall, even if he was sitting down, and was dressed head to toe in black.
From his shoes to his tailored suit to his inky black hair, all I could say is that he looked like séx. Plain and simple.
My throat suddenly went dry when I realised that I had been staring at him a little too much and turned away, fidgeting with my tonic water.
I crossed my legs and immediately regretted it when the man's gaze fell onto them.
His eyes lingered there for a moment, his lips retaining that harsh smile that he had on before.
Warmth slowly pooled into my stomach while I tried to shake the feeling of his ardent gaze off of my shoulders.
Suddenly, the dress I believed to cover enough skin felt like the shortest thing on earth.
I felt nàked under his gaze.
Elliot Smith
Well, have a nice time with your tonic water.
The man then walked towards the booth where the other man was waiting for his champagne.
I didn't dare look back at him, I didn't dare say another word.
Who was that man? And how could his gaze be enough to fluster me?
Am I really drinking tonic water or am I drunk already?
I composed myself, trying to ignore the burning gaze burning the back of my head and the length of my bare legs.
That man dressed in all black doesn't seem important.

Chapter 3 - Handsome Self
I watch the cute brunette at the bar table stare at me, her eyes wide.
It's like she's never seen a man before.
She reminded me of a doe that I once met on a hunting trip.
So innocent, so peaceful.
It's a shame that I swore myself off of sleeping around.
She seems like the kind of girl I'd go for.
She's probably the kind who would whimper softly, buried underneath the sick àsshole who thinks that he's worthy of her when he isn't.
No one is worthy of an innocent girl like that.
I'm not my father, I don't need the weakness of relieving myself inside an unknown woman. Who knows how many illegitimate brothers and sisters I have out there?
But if she came up and asked me to sleep with her? I'd have a hard time refusing a girl like that.
Elliot returned, holding my bottle of champagne.
Elliot Smith
Did she grab your fancy?
Roma Castona
Fûck off, El.
El is the only person I trust completely in my family. We grew up together, close like brothers.
Elliot Smith
Don't use such vulgar language. This is a respectable establishment.
Roma Castona
I own the place, so I can fûcking curse when I so darn well please.
Seeing El talk to the cute brunette annoyed me.
I don't have Elliot's natural charm towards woman.
Not that I need to talk to a woman with charm. It creates unnecessary problems.
Elliot Smith
Do you want to talk to her?
Roma Castona
Why would I do that?
I saw the way she crossed her legs when she saw me staring at her.
I wonder if she got wet when she saw me staring into her eyes.
Crap, now I'm thinking about what colour underwear she has on.
I heard the cork from the champagne pop, and I saw my cute little brunette stiffen.
Scared of something as small as a cork popping off of a bottle?
Elliot Smith
You're staring at her again.
I snarled, turning my head towards the man who was reaching my last nerve tonight.
Roma Castona
If you want to fûck her so bad, why don't you charm her like you do with the rest? I don't care.
Elliot Smith
I know when you lie, Roma.
Elliot Smith
I'm going to invite her over.
Elliot Smith
I'm going to invite her over for a glass of champagne.
Roma Castona
And why would you do that?
Elliot Smith
Because if you want to burn a hole in the back of her head, it would be easier if she was sitting in front of you.
He's tempting me, I know he is.
He's been insisting that I try dating a woman. Imagine that and how insufferable that must be.
It's always "for the sake of the family".
Elliot Smith
I'm not asking you to marry her, Roma. I'm asking you to have a conversation with her.
99% of women are nothing more than gold-diggers.
I bet that cute brunette took a look at me and saw money, money, money.
They all do. She's no different than the rest.
Roma Castona
If you dare invite her over here, don't expect me to stay.
Elliot Smith
But you will stay here. I've got your keys, remember?
Roma Castona
I'll have a car fetched for me.
Elliot Smith
Without your phone and wallet?
I looked at his hands. The bàstard, when did he swipe those-
Elliot Smith
I'm not asking you to sleep with her, Roma.
Elliot Smith
She seems... interesting.
Roma Castona
"Interesting"? "Observant"?
Roma Castona
Two positive words in a single sentence? That's a record.
Elliot Smith
One drink. That's all I ask of you.
Elliot Smith
Get used to speaking to a woman, because you'll have to deal with one in the future, whether you like it or not.
I snarled, anger seething through my teeth.
Elliot Smith
When she finishes her glass, I'll give these back.
Roma Castona
Don't expecting a fûcking raise from me this year.
Elliot Smith
I wouldn't expect it either way.
When this evening ends, I'm going to kill him.
