“There were 10 different elements; they saw the world dark and damp. They decided to combine powers and make a whole new world \- rising the sun, lowering the moon. Making the stars, forming the clouds into different shapes. They thought they should rest after they created the world, so they made gods. The gods lived for generations, some were evil, some were good, but they all kept in mind that the elements would take over one day, so they forced them not to by keeping their thrones of power. Not letting the elements take over… I snuggled near my dad and asked, “Is the story true?”
My dad laughed, “If it was true, why did the world not overrun with monsters? Now, little one. Time to go to bed, or else you won’t be able to fall asleep from the story.” I smiled and flopped onto my bed as my father kissed me on the forehead and walked out of the room.
Then I sat up straight, and thought, are monsters really real?
I heard my father arguing with my stepmother downstairs. I sat down and listened from my room, “-not going to send Cayla to boarding school!” My dad was scolding my stepmother, Charlotte. “So? If we send that ridiculous idiot away, we can have some time together!” she hollered.
“I don’t understand why I have EVER liked you.” My dad said, “What I wish is that she-” He flattered as he said it, my dad never ever mentioned my mother, my real one. I gasped so very loudly that they both looked up and saw me eavesdropping. I got myself up and flopped onto my bed as if nothing happened.
Perfect timing, at that time, Charlotte had come up and checked on me, just to see me, eyes closed and asleep. She grumbled and muttered, “Stupid little girl.” and walked out, slamming the door behind her, hearing a loud click. Oh gosh, she locked the door. I walked to my balcony and stared up into the shimmering night sky.
Suddenly, a beautiful eagle flew down and perched itself on the railing. I smiled and held out my hand. The little critter didn’t fly away, instead he turned around as I smoothed his feathers and he dropped a letter at my feet. I jumped not knowing what it was.
With trembling fingers, I picked up the letter. The letter was addressed to Cayla Gailo - me. I opened the letter that was from a person I didn’t know…
To my dearest eagle,
you may have heard of me from the stories your dad read to you. I have heard your prayers to see me, and I can’t come down to see you. So I wrote this letter. I am Gina, well not to surprise you, I am your mother.
I want you to go to this camp after school, it is enchanted, you would discover the way from my eagle. To camp you must go, now goodbye.
Your mother
I stared at my letter and eventually found my eyelids closing from fatigue. I forced myself to stuff the letter into my school bag then flopped right onto my bed to dreamland.
I was at school today, when I saw my friend Cayla, looking absent and was about to tumble down the stairs before I caught her. “Woah, Cayla, stop there.” “Huh? What?” She said and shook her head, “Oh! Hi, good morning, Irene.” “You were about to tumble down the stairs, missy.” I teased her and continued, “Isn’t our class right here?”
“Oh, yeah. Thanks.” Cayla said embarrassed. “I have art class over there, see you at lunch!” I said and walked into the crowd. I sat down on my seat and continued to make my cushion, we were making cushions in art class, bo-ring!
Finally, I was able to survive through all those boring English and math lessons, it’s now time for lunch! I skipped down the stairs, hoping to see some of my other friends: Nyx, Rue and- oh wait, Sydney went somewhere else. I sighed and opened my lunch box as I sat down on a bench, oh yes, sushi. “Hi, so sorry that I am late!” Cayla said as she slipped onto the seat opposite of me.
“No problem!” I said cheerfully, “Thanks.” Cayla said and took out her lunch box, we chatted and ate. Suddenly, the ground shook. “W-w-wwhat is happening?!” Cayla said, dropping her spoon.
“EARTHQUAKE!! DUCK!!” I yelled and dropped onto the ground. Cayla followed me as I crawled on the floor, finally at the courtyard. “WHAT ARE WE DOING?” she yelled over the noise. Instead of answering her. I pulled her behind a plant.
“NYX! RUE! TAKE COVER!” Cayla yelled as she shielded us with her body. Rocks plumbered down from the sky and hit Cayla. When the smoke cleared, we were unharmed. I was sure Cayla was dead, but a smoky figure walked out, wait. IT WAS CAYLA!!
“CAYLA!! Are you hurt?” Nyx said urgently, “Do we need medicine?” Rue panicked, “I feel… fine. The rocks didn’t hurt me at all. Thunder shook the ground and we crouched on the floor. Kids ran from everywhere, trying to open the door to the assembly hall. “Go! We need to help them!” I urged as we ran towards them. One of the people from my class ran to help us too. We pulled open the doors and encouraged the kids to go in, Nyx and Rue attended the wounded in there. Finally, me and the other student, Ventes, held open the door, trying to get in, but the earth rumbled our step.
“STAY AWAY!!” A voice rumbled in the sky. “HELP!!!” I yelled as I got thrown in the sky, looping the loop. “VENTES!! HELP ME PLEASE!!” I screamed and screamed for help, kids banged on the doors, trying to come out and help. As for Ventes, s-s-she was flying in the air! “I’m done helping you stupid half-blood!” She screeched and burst into the assembly hall, grinning and showing her fangs, “Well, well, well. What do we have here? 3 powerful demigods? I grant you that, my mistress would be glad and will grant me my wishes! Oh yesssssssss, she would be glad, very glad.”
“You wish.” said a familiar voice in the mist. A girl walked out from it, she was wearing a long black hood with a long black robe, she was wearing all black. Even a pure black raven sat on her shoulder. The only thing that wasn’t black that she had was her weapons. Her black raven cawed and she froze. She turned her attention to me and I backed up. She turned back to Ventes and took her sword out. Her sword was silver and bronze. She pulled out a gold dagger with silver sparkles which burst into blue flames every few seconds.
She charged and advanced on Ventes, her moves were incredible, in a few seconds she had Ventes in chains. She sheathed her dagger near her throat but Ventes started to turn to mist. “You stupid venti!!” She growled and whistled, her raven flew after her trying to grab her.
I wanted to help but I seemed useless compared to the girl’s incredible moves. She whipped her dagger when Ventes’s back was turned. She stabbed it at her back and with a painful wail she disappeared in a puff of black smoke.
The raven cawed and flew back to the girl, she shethed up her sleeve and showed up her large cut. The raven dripped tears on it and the cut sealed up. After that, the girl turned to me. Uh oh, I thought, how was I going to escape when that girl was advancing on me?
She turned her head towards the glass door of the assembly hall. The children backed up and she shot her arm towards it. The children backed and jumped back. “WHO ARE YOU??!!” Nyx yelled and grabbed a long piece of glass and charged at her. When the glass was out to reach the girl, she grabbed the hilt of it, then broke it with her strength. She turned her head towards Nyx, she backed up and stumbled down. “Who are you??!!” She screamed in terror.
The girl chuckled, “Is that how you treat an old friend?” Then she lowered her hood……
“N-n-n-no way…” Rue stammered, she was the first to get over the shock of the girl.
The girl had dark chocolate colored eyes and dark caramel hair. Her dark clothes melted into something else. She was wearing jeans and a white top with a jean like jacket on. Her black hood was still on and a pack of silvery arrows and a bow was on her back. She wore a bracelet with weird markings and her sword was sheathed at her side along with her dagger. Her raven perched itself on her shoulder and burst into blue flames, suddenly it was a phoenix! A blue phoenix! “Alia, go back to camp.” She ordered her phoenix, “And bring me Diana.” The phoenix squaked in reply and flew off leaving specks of blue flames behind. “S-S-Sydney.” I started to tremble and a smirk crept up on her lips. “Irene, nice seeing you again, you too Rue, Cayla and Nyx.” She helped Nyx up as a large shadow appeared in the skies. My faithful companion awaits me, as for you, you might want to go to camp, where it will be safe. As for you Cayla… our director would have to think about something.
Imagine having a friend that disappeared one day and suddenly appeared at your house when you were having a cookie? Yeah, that’s how it feels like when Sydney appeared in our school. Now she was riding on a pure black Pegasus while we were being carried by the wind. I have been asking for explanations ever since she appeared but all she said was always the same, “Save it up, keep up your energy, you’ll need it. Explanations when we are there.” Which wasn’t very helpful.
Finally, we arrived in a forest. She rode on her pegasus while we walked alongside her. She steered her pegasus along a zigzag way following a small order to an opening, and we saw a beautiful campsite. “You can go now, Diana.” She ordered.
“So,” She began and turned towards us, “Welcome to Camp\-Elements. This is the only safe place for us, half\-bloods. I am the daughter of Arianna, the goddess of air and hunt. She is responsible for the sun, clouds and birds, but Night the goddess of fire and night is responsible for the moon, night, stars and any other animal that stays up at night. There are 5 main goddesses” she said and led us towards the cabins, “There are also 5 other goddesses that aren’t as important as the 5 but they are also useful. Anyways, as I told you, my mother is Arianna, the goddess of the sky, air, clouds, and whatnot. She can also control weather like rain and such. I am her only child. Then this is Night’s cabin.” She took a deep breath like this cabin was dangerous.
“Well, this cabin doesn’t have any children and most people assume she is a maiden goddess, well, the goddess never really reveals themselves that much. Anyways she is the goddess of night and fire, as I said. She can control the moon, fire, and more. She is the mother of wolves and she\-well sometimes she can be a bit too fierce.”
“Great, I think I fit here.” Nyx exclaimed happily and bounced up and down. “Woah, you need to get a claim.” Sydney stopped her before she could enter.’’ “Whatever that is, ugh. Fine.” She complained and grunted angrily.
“As I was saying, Night is a good mother too. Next cabin.” She continued talking about the cabins like Adzela, Hola and Levanna. Finally, we stopped in front of a big blue and purple house. “The meeting house,” Sydney announced. “This is where our director lives and where the cabin directors have meetings. Also, this is where we send each other to the quests. The water goddess is friends with auras\-wind nymphs. So she sent her water dragon in this house to send us off for missions.”
“How? Ride?” I asked. “Nah,” Sydney made a half scoff half talk. “He spits us out to the place we want to go.”
“Oh...” I said disappointed, I loved water and I also liked dragons, “Thought I’d be able to ride on one. I’m definitely rooting for that goddess.”
“Who’s your director?” Cayla asked, “Y\-”
“Did somebody mention me?” A voice sang as the door flung open. A ghostly\- OMG GHOSTLY??!! “WHY WOULD THERE BE GHOSTS IN THE CAMP??!!” Nyx shrieked.
“Respect, miss” The ghost said with a smile and bowed, but then as if she got hydrated, she started acting crazy and flying around and looking at them up and down. “Oo, new half\-bloods! Wheeeee!”
“Miss Cruna, they are unclaimed.” Sydney said with a sigh, then whispered to Cayla, “She is heavily hydrated with caffeine.”
“Noted with thanks,”
she sighed and shifted her backpack on her shoulder. “Um, hello, uh, Miss\-” Nyx began but got interrupted by the aura.
“Miss Cruna. I am an aura, welcome to Camp Elements, half\-bloods!” She said and did a little dance. “Now, the cabins, probably someone will tell you about it. Let’s go explore the meeting house!”
Miss Cruna is totally hydrated. She was swarming up and down and all around. She giggled every once in a while and did a backflip, easy for her, she was flying. I was getting tired and I wanted to get a claim. Unfortunately, I want a cabin even more. She grinned and giggled, making us all uncomfortable, even Sydney who had lived here longer than I did.
“She’s totally getting on my nerves.” I heard Sydney grumbled, then she called out. “Miss Cruna, it is dinner time in the pavilion, I should bring them to the dinner pavilion now.”
