His family stood around the large hole in the ground, with the body of his uncle sitting snug in the expensive coffin that they had come together to pay for. His Mum holding his hand tightly as tears rolled down her face. His other relatives were also crying as to be expected at a time this. He didn't recognise any of them, his mother didn't get along with her parents, they despised her for being different. He had 2 mom's, his father left his biological Mother when he was only 2 years old, he said he couldn't handle having a child so he packed up and left her alone, until his mum met her wife Suzo. Suzo wasn't allowed to come to the funeral today, even though his uncle would have wanted her to because he was the only one who accepted his mum for who she was, he was like a father. However Soma wasnt crying, the shock of loosing someone was keeping the tears back.
As the last piece of dirt was placed on the grave his mum wiped her eyes and bent down next to him.
"Here Soma...Uncle Kiro would have wanted you to put a flower down too" Her soft voice was calming at a time like this, she passed him a small rose, another tear escaping her eyes, she wiped her cheek and smiled gently at him.
"Go ahead" she said nudging him on the side of the arm. As he stared at the grave a tear rolled down his cheek, he wiped it of quickly. He bent down next to the grave and placed the flower gently down at the edge. He stood back up and held back onto his mums hand.
"Ryu dear long time no see" A voice called from behind them. They both turned in unison.
"Hello Mother" she smiled faintly, even though she had been pushed out of the family, by her mother especially, she still made an effort to be kind.
"Hello Soma" His grandma smiled putting her hand on his shoulder. He moved away from her grasp, he hadn't seen his Gran in 5 years and he wasn't a fan of being touched by judgmental boomers.
"Ryu honey I just came to ask when you were going to let your sister and her husband raise Soma" She managed a smile.
"Your going to bring that up here.. Really?!"
Ryu raised her voice slightly, bewildered that her mother could be so insincere.
"Ryu pull yourself together, two women CANNOT raise a child, he needs a father!"
She hissed, spitting slightly in disgust.
"I can't speak to you..." Ryu turned around in frustration and started of to the car. He grasped his mother's hand gently, sensing the upset.
They got into the car. He did his seat belt up and looked at his mother, she threw her head back against the head rest and ran her fingers through her hair.
She threw her head forward again and hit her hands on the steering wheel and the car let out a loud bib.
"Mum..?" he said gently. She turned her head and looked at him with a gentle smile. He could tell that it was forced, she was hurting, it was easy to tell.
"I'm okay baby.." she leaned over, pulling his head into her shoulder gently, kissing his head.
"let's go see your Mum, she was worried about us coming so we should go back, we'll get a movie out hey! You pick" she smiled brightly squeezing his cheeks like some old lady.
He smiled back.
"Okay Ma..." He said gently. She buckled herself in and they headed home.
4 years later...
Birds were whistling, the sun was shining, the cherry blossoms were blooming beautifully---
"SOMAAAAA!!!!!" A loud shout from his mum in the kitchen broke the relaxing silence of the morning. Soma sighed heavily, sitting upright on his bed. The door to his room opened gently.
"Time to get up little bear" His Mum smiled happily.
"I'm 16 now...drop the silly nickname please" Soma groaned getting out of his bed reluctantly.
"Sorry sorry, forgot how much of a big boy you are now..." His mum teased him, pulling him into her and hugging him tightly.
"Okay I have to shower let go" he laughed as he tried to escape the tight grasp. His Mum let go and he stumbled backwards nearly falling back into bed.
"Don't trip" his mum laughed walking out of his room. He got up of his bed and walked into the bathroom, he let out another sigh at the thought of having to go to school.
He started the shower and got in. He washed his hair and other 'stuff', hopping back out as he finished, putting a towel around his waist he headed back into his room and got dressed.
"Morning!" Suzo threw herself over his shoulders as he was, attempting, to make toast.
"You burnt it.. ." Suzo said laughing slightly, removing herself of him and leaning against the kitchen counter.
"Thanks for the observation sherlock, if i ever have another mystery like this one that needs to be solved I'll be sure to call" Soma replied sarcasticly, placing the practically cremated toast onto the plate and spreading butter onto the top.
"It's practically ash, how do you manage it, its bewildering" Suzo laughed, judging his cooking skills.
"It's the toaster not me" Soma stated, knowing it was an obvious lie. "Lea don't inhale your food, chew!" He said with a tiny bit of actual concern.
"I am chewing!" Lea rolled her eyes.
"She's a pig she doesn't know how to chew" Leo stated proudly from the opposite side of table. Leo and Lea were twins that Ryo and Suzo adopted a few years ago, the twins were born in Europe, however, when they were 3 their biological parents brought them to Japan and dumped them in an orphanage, nobody knows why they were dumped though. That was 4 years ago, they're now 7 and full of sass.
Soma rolled his eyes and ignored the two as they threw insults back and forth at each other across the table.
"You two please stop, Mum has a headache" Suzo pleaded from across the room, holding her head down in her hands.
"You shouldn't have drank so much yesterday" Leo stated, getting up from his chair and placing his plate in the sink.
"You cheeky thing" Suzo laughed, picking him up and throwing him over her shoulder like a fireman, Leo laughed as she threw him down onto the sofa.
"I'm out" Soma grabbed his bag.
"Love ya, have a good day" Suzo shouted.
"Yea I will, love you!" Soma replied walking out the door. The sun beamed down onto his face, he put his hand covering it from his eyes.
"At least its a nice day" Soma stated letting a small smile escape.
Soma walked, weaving his way through all the people blocking the corridor. He stopped at his locker and opened it, pulling out a few books. Suddenly, the locker door swung shut and made a loud bang, he jumped in a flinch, stumbling back and nearly knocked over some short kid, the kid put his middle finger up as he walked away in annoyance, Soma rolled his eyes and ignored the gesture.
"Morning Soma" His friend called from next to him. This was one of his friends he'd made before the death of his uncle however since then he hadn't made an effort to really talk to anyone else apart from the friends he already had. This was Amy, she loved to wind him up and annoy him because she thinks his reactions are 'priceless', Amy had long, black hair down to her hips, and a pair of beautiful blue eyes.
"Will you stop that, you do it every morning" Soma rolled his eyes, opening his locker back up, grabbing the things he needed.
"It's funny tho" Amy said laughing.
"Really funny that" Soma said smiling sarcastically. "Where's George, he's usually stuck to you like flies to shit" Soma Stated as they started down the corridor to the cafeteria were they usually met everyone.
"Dunno and no he isn't we just happen to hang out a lot so he's always seen with me" Amy said in defense. George had pale blue eyes and bright blonde hair, he was half Swedish, he was the tallest of the group and was like a giant compared to the rest of them, he had a thing for Amy and everyone knew it apart from her, she wasn't the observent type.
As they entered the cafeteria they were instantly hit with loud chatter and girls probably fan girling over some crappy musician or boy band.
"Why do we have to meet here every day" Soma said annoyed, "Its so loud all the time, why can't we meet outside in the field or in the library" Soma grumbled.
"Your in a moany mood today" a voice called from behind them. They turned, it was Zenón. Zenón had brown curly hair and wore glasses that were way to big for him, he had beautiful brown eyes but terrible eyesight, his eyesight was so shitty that even the ophthalmologist had no idea what to do with him.
"Morning to you to" Soma said annoyed by his comment.
"Morning Zenón" Amy chirped smiling brightly. They made it to the table and sat down, Soma slouched over onto the table and sighed.
"What's up with you today" Mariana asked, rolling her eyes waiting for a crappy response or a scolding. Mariana was Spanish, she'd moved to Kyoto when she was 4 years old, she had bright blue eyes and she'd dyed her short hair a teal colour while they were off for the holidays.
"Well for starters..." Soma waffled on for about 5 minutes moaning and groaning about small, stupid stuff that happened on his walk here which had annoyed him.
"Geez sounds rough" George said sarcasticly as he sat down at the table opposite Amy.
Soma lifted his head of the table and gave him the middle finger.
"Blasted" Mariana laughed, punching George in the shoulder.
"How long until the----bell..." Amy was interrupted mid question by the exact thing she was asking about.
"Did that awnser it for you" Zenón laughed.
Everyone got up and walked to class, Soma let out another sigh.
"Today will be a good day I can feel it" Amy smiled brightly, patting him on the shoulder.
"I fuckin' hope so" Soma threw his arms around her and hopped on her back. "Piggyback!" He shouted, laughing. "onwards my steed!" He patted her head.
"Yes my lord" She said in a strange attempt at an English accent.
'Today might just be nice', Soma though to himself.
