Several minutes of silence passed by.
Several minutes once more passed by before Maya finally started to type.

Hello. I'm sorry. I'm just kinda new with this and all. 🥺
Maya
I'm from J Country and I am taking up Business Administration. I am a scholarship student and I usually focus on my studies before anything else. So far, I've been very motivated due to my determination to achieve my dreams.
Ella waited once more for Maya who once again became quite and this time for more than 10 minutes.
Ella
What made you doubt yourself? Your previous motivation and all.
Maya's Status didn't change for quite some while.
Maya
I really am determined to achieve my dreams. As an ordinary person coming from a less privileged family, all I can rely on is hardwork and perseverance.
Ella
What made you think otherwise?
Maya
I was really determined before. I was purely just trying to pursue my dreams before.
Maya
But everything changed because of him.
Maya's fingers quivered as her eyes reddened.
Maya
I really didn't want anyone to know about this. But I just couldn't bear it all silence so I tried to find a way to this out of my system.
Ella patiently waited as Maya tries to find the courage to word her thoughts.
Maya
Well, I liked this guy who was everything I've ever dreamed of.
Maya
Ordinary but cool. Reliable and approachable. He's an admirable man who succeeded despite living in extreme poverty in his youth.
Maya
You know... Like the common cliche story of some people becoming phoenixes from mud.
Maya
He was my inspiration. My role model. My idol.
Maya
And somehow he became the first man I've ever loved my entire whole life.
Maya
He had been my professor since I was freshman. And he is currently my Thesis Adviser too.
Maya
And I believe we've become sort of close over the years I've been his student.
Ella
Oh my God. Have you confessed yet?
A few moments if silence passed by.
Maya
And I won't. I've decided I won't. I shouldn't.
Ella was shocked and confused at the same time.
Ella
But why? I think you'll hit it off with him if you try.
Maya pursed her lips and sighed before writing another chat.
Maya
I was a motivated student trying to earn high grades and as much credentials as I could for my resume. I was his most motivated student.
Maya
At first it's all about me wanting to achieve my dreams and all.
Maya
But as I spent more time with him as his student, I started seeing different sides of him. It began from pure curiosity. I was curious about the only professor who took our problems and matters as students seriously.
Maya
He's really popular amongst us students. He's responsible and kind despite he's strict attitude as a teacher.
Maya
He's also fun and easy to get along with. And as I tried to satisfy my curiosity, I started wanting to see more of him.
Ella bit her fingers while waiting for Maya's chats. Maya didn't type anything until after more than three minutes have passed by.
Maya
And yes. I did fall for him. And I became more motivated because of him.
Maya
I became motivated not because of my dreams but because I want to spend more time with him. I wanted to see more of him. And him being my Academic Adviser made it easier for me to meet him.
Maya
And we became really close too. We had this sort of friendship between a student and her teacher. But my growing feelings made everything feel so wrong.
Ella
But you're currently writing your Thesis right? You'll be graduating soon so it won't feel so wrong to confess soon.
Maya chuckled and smiled sadly.
Maya
Yeah. That's what I thought too. Forgetting the fact that he is more than eight years older than me and that he may either already have a lover or a wife.
Ella gasped in realization and suddenly didn't know what to say or how to react.
Maya sighed and started to type again.
Maya
I tried to ask around but he's too private. No one knows if he had a girl or a wife at home.
Maya
He never talks about himself too much too.
Maya
He's too mysterious. So mysterious it made me panic and worry even more.
Maya
What if he's taken? What if he already had kids waiting at home for him?
Maya
And God forbid but what if he's actually a psycho in disguise? I fell in love with a psycho then? 😭
Ella fumbled nervously. She set up the Chatroom out if boredom and rarely ever really encounters people who wants to talk about anything.
She waited and sighed before typing something she knows is dumb but will type anyway.
Ella
Don't worry Ella! Think positive! Even if all else fail, let's at least believe he's not a psycho.
Maya was left speechless. And before she knew it, genuine laughter escaped her after spending so long feeling sad for nothing.
Maya
I'll take it as you comforting me. Thank you.
Maya smiled. And sighed and spared lucky charm in her desk a look.
Maya
Fortunately, he wasn't a psycho.
Ella slapped her forehead when she read Maya's chat. She scolded herself for being stupid.
Maya
I saw him with a women recently. And they were really intimate.
Maya
Yeah. They were really close. Their arms were linked the entire time. And they hugged a lot of times.
A realization struck Ella.
Ella
You stalked them?!? 😱
Maya closed her eyes in embarrassment.
Maya
I mean I couldn't help it!
Maya
I saw the guy I like who I fantasize to be still single being intimate with not just a normal woman but beautiful and sexy looking one in broad daylight! 😭
Ella sympathetically looked at her screen and sighed.

Was he intimate with the woman too?

I mean it could be one sided intimacy from the woman.
Maya sighed and thought for a moment before typing.

I believe so. I mean what kind if decent person would allow anyone be that intimate with him in public for shallow reasons?

At least let me believe he is not. 😭
Ella thought for a few moments before typing a response.
Something inside Maya cracked. She heard the pieces of her glass heart break into pieces. Loud and clear.
She joined the Chatroom to strengthen her will to give up. But hearing someone tell you that your love is hopeless is another form of heartbreak.

En. I've already decided to do so.
More than ten minutes of silence passed by.
Ella wanted to beat herself so much. She scolded herself for her brainless words and bit her finger waiting for Maya to chat some more.
Maya wiped the tears from her eyes and faced her screen.
Maya
Please give me a few more moments.
Ella waited silently and patiently.
Maya
I never knew I would ever experience something like this. I was just like most other motivated students out there before.
Maya
I am an introvert so I don't really have friends. And my family's strict about these matters so I can't talk to them about it.
Maya
I don't have much experience in dealing with other people. And I literally have no idea about love and relationships so it's kinda hard for me.
Maya
Am I weird for being like this?
Maya
Maybe I'm just over reacting or something but I just can't help it.
Ella sniffled and wiped her years with her hands.
Maya
I love him. I love him so much.
Maya sobbed and wiped some of her tears with the sleeves of her shirt.
Maya
I love him that's why it hurts so much.
Maya
But anyway there is a first for everything.
Maya
It hurts now. But maybe one day I'll find someone better or someone who will love me too.
Maya
I will try my best to move on. I will focus on my credentials, get a job, then focus on my career. I'll try to do well.
Maya
But I can't stop the pain and my love for him. At least not yet.
Ella cried silently and sniffed.
Ella
Jiayou! Maya, I know you can do it.
Ella
It'll hurt now. But soon the pain will fade.
Ella
And maybe soon, someone better will come to your life and make you happy.
Maya smiled at the surprisingly touching words of the Chatroom admin. She can't help but think the Admin was kinda cute and clumsy.
Maya
En. Thank you. I'll really try to be happy and find someone better soon.

Maya laughed and collected herself. She picked up the lucky charm on her desk and put it in a common box for small mementos in her drawer.

Ella wiped her tears and smiled. "Jiayou Maya!" She cheered.

Ella sniffed and wiped away her tears before taking her phone up once more to type a chat to her closest friend, Adam.
Adam was standing in front of the mirror when his phone rang with a familiar ringtone. He sighed and decided to dry hair first before replying to his retarded 'friend.'
Ella chatted nonstop. Making Adam's phone ring like crazy a lot.
Adam gritted his teeth in irritation and angrily threw his towel at a corner.
Ella
Someone visited my chat room today. 😭
Adam frowned as his right eye twitched in annoyance. He pursed his lips before typing a reply.
Ella
Someone told me a story today. And it was so romantic and sad at the same time. 😭
Ella
I never knew love could be so cute and painful at the same time.
Ella
I mean she was in love and I found her love cute and very touching.
Ella
But her circumstances are so sad I wanna cry. 😭
Adam's right eye twitched in irritation.
Adam
If you want to cry, read a sad novel or something. Stop doing bothersome things.
Ella pouted at her friend's indifference.
Ella
But I prefer real stories compared to what happens novels, movies, and others.
Ella
Real but dramatic stories are more interesting. And it's not like my chat room receives a lot of decent visitors.
Ella
I rarely ever have visitors even.
Adam looked at his phone screen in distaste. All he did was get a shirt but this little friend of his already managed to bombard his chat box with chats.
Adam
Visitors or whatnot, most of them are scammers.
Adam
Most of them are liars making up stories to fool you or make fun of you.
Ella pouted but smiled later on.
Ella
But Adam's not a liar right? And we even became good friends. 😘
Adam almost snapped at Ella's words. That's right. There was a time of stupid naivety during his middle school years.
And his stupid whims made his path cross with Ella's unexpectedly. And though he doesn't regret it, he earned an annoying baggage of a friend during those times.
Ella
Hihihi. We met through my chat room too okay? And I still remember those cute days of yours. 😛
Adam glared at his screen and wanted to throw his phone somewhere and ignore it's rings.
But after sone thought, he decided otherwise and irritatedly typed some words.
Maya chuckled knowing how much Adam's face might be twisted in anger. The giant tsundere is the same as always.
Ella
I just can't help but appreciate everyone's stories. No matter if they're real or not.
Ella
And my Chat room helped me met a variety of people with different circumstances and stories.
Adam
In short, you're just nosy.
Adam chuckled at Ella's quick response and lied sat down on his bed.
Meeting Ella four years ago was one if the most annoying things he have done before. But he does not regret it. Because of Ella, he managed to get through his darkest hours.
Adam
And what's the story about this time.
Ella talked about her experience talking with Maya. She spoke of every detail mixed with her own interpretation and perceptions.
Adam's nerve kept on twitching as he listened. This time, he wanted to slap Ella's head for a reason.
Ella
How sad right? I hope she finds someone better.
Ella
And someone who will love her too.
Adam pursed his lips and typed his opinion.
Adam
You girls are so quick on making decisions and assumptions without asking questions.
Adam
Why didn't she try to talk with the guy?
Ella frowned. And pouted.
Ella
What's there to talk about? He's definitely an as***le!
Ella
If he was already taken why did he take care of Maya too closely?
Ella
I may not have witnessed the entire thing but girls like Maya won't fall if the guy wasn't so attentive.
Ella
And based on her narrations, the guy must have been too caring and attentive! 😤
Adam wanted to pinch his little friend's cheeks so hard at the moment.
"This naive and small-minded demon..." He cursed inwardly.
He truly never wanted to encourage Ella to continue her chat rooms. More often than not, he have watched people make the wrong decisions because of Ella. Although she never meant harm, she's too dense and heartless and especially biased against men for such activities.
Her heartless and thoughtless words may have saved him. But the same thing may not be the case for the few others who were sincere in their conversations.
"It's a good thing that most of her visitors are either kids or have minor problems to mull about.
Ella
I'm not. And I may not have been able to help much.
Ella
But at least they had someone to talk to like me. 😗
Ella
Not everyone has a friend to rely on!
Adam shook his head in dismay and sent a complacent sticker before leaving his phone ignored to cook some food.
Ella pouted and grumpily ate some snacks.
She truly liked this friend of hers. But Adam is too indifferent or cold at times.
But she truly doesn't have any other friend except for Adam. Not like Adam will believe her when she says that.
Ella smiled and looked around her quite and barren room. Only the ticking sound of machines accompanied her through the silence.
Adam threw hid dirty dishes in the sink and dried cleaned his hands before hurriedly going back to his room to check his phone.
More than ten minutes have passed since Ella's last reply.
Ella excitedly raised her phone once more to chat.
Ella
What took you so long?
Adam was both annoyed and entertained.
Adam
I just wanna tell you that if I were that teacher or instructor...
Adam
...I would literally punch you even if you're a girl.
Ella looked shocked at Adam's and frowned in confusion.
0.02 - Maya's Resolve
Maya finally felt refreshed. She felt complicated at first but only relief remained in the end.
She was happy. And she wanted to thank the person who helped her make it through her problem.
Maya has entered the Chatroom.
Ella drowsily raised her head from her desk and looked at her phone screen. 'It must be Adam.' She grumped.
But her fatigue flew away when she saw the name.
Ella
Hello Maya. 😊 How are you?
Maya
I'm feeling happy. and content right now.
Maya smiled and nodded at her own reply. 'In fact I feel more relieved than happy. But nonetheless, I am happy.'
Ella excitedly typed and giggled. 'Thank goodness.' She thought. I thought I made her more miserable or something.
Ella
So how was it with that person?
Maya was shocked at first. But she chuckled in the end due to the silly straight forwardness of the Admin.
Maya
I drew a very clear line in our relationship and treated him as nothing more than a kind professor of mine
Maya
It was hard and awkward at first. But overtime, everything became normal and bearable for me.
Maya
Nowadays, I spend my days relieved.
Ella looked at her chats that seem to imply that her heartbreak was years ago instead of more than two weeks ago.
Ella thought of Adam's previous opinion of the matter and inwardly lit a candle for the guy. 'Dear Stranger, I'm sorry!'
Maya
But nowadays, he's acting weird.
Maya
In fact he became really weird.
Ella
In what way was he weird.
Maya
He's oddly being too close and is asking why I am not acting like before.
Maya
And I asked what about before? I asked about how he thinks I act before. He obviously wanted to say something but decided no to.
Maya
He's acting really weird. And we encounter each other way too many times nowadays.
Maya
I've been trying to avoid him a lot. But the more I avoid him, the more coincidences happen around us. Like we always accidentally or coincidentally meet up or end up together.
Maya
Everything is weird right now. But at the very least I'm happy and content. I will focus on my studies before I involve myself with things like romance. 😊
She thought of her old conversation with Adam. If what she thinks is what Adam meant by his words, the instructor really liked Maya.
But if he likes her, why did he have to publicly be close to anyone?
Ella
How does he act around you nowadays.
Maya thought for a moment.
Maya
Just as attentive as before.
Ella
By saying attentive, how attentive is he to you?
Ella crossed her fingers and prayed she was wrong.
Maya
He calls and texts often to ask about my studies and well-being.
Maya
He often calls out to me after class lectures to talk about stuff and confirm my thesis. I tried to focus our conversation on formal or official matters so I'll be fine.
Ella was frozen in shock.
Maya thought back on everything that happened these weeks that have passed by.
Sir had always been gentle and kind to everyone. But this time he really acted way too overboard. He's way too good to me. So good that many people have pointed it out.
Maya
He's acting weird. But that's not exactly weird though. I'm his only advisee so it's normal for him to be attentive and concerned.
Maya
Also, he's taken. I've confirmed it with my own eyes. The beautiful woman even came to school to visit him
Maya
She was pretty and nice. She's also easy to talk to and she's a competent salarywoman.
Maya
She's everything I aspire to become. It's not weird that he likes women like her. Mature, beautiful, and everything a good and competent woman should be.
Ella frowned at what she read. 'This is weird.' She thought. She agrees with how Maya sees everything. And the other woman is obviously good.
But she can't help but also think of what Adam's previous words implied. The guy likes Maya.

Maya thought back on the moment that made her resolve more solid.

I saw them kissing in a hidden part of the school parking lot while throwing out trash. They were so close.

I've decided to focus on my studies and my dreams first. I've decided to focus on myself before I invest in loving others.
Ella stared at her words. She sighed and smiled. She set the hopeless aside deeming him unimportant.

Maya stared at the Admin's surprising eloquence.

Maya tried to remember. But the only thing she remembers is that she accidentally saw it online when she needed someone to talk to the most.

Just online. I can't really remember now. But I saw it online alongside a bunch of nothings.
