'what a beautiful day. The last day of school before the summer vacation. Ah...sweet summer holidays, and...I'm going to miss it, again! Really... do we have to move away? " These were the thoughts that occupied Olivia's mind as she waited for the school bus.
" Good morning... "a sweet, familiar voice flow through Olivia's ear. She heard some footsteps approaching her very quickly. When she was about to look back, someone jumped over to her and asked,
"Did you miss me?... "
"You are late " said Olivia with a teasing frown.
"Hey!!! I'm not late you are just early. " said the little girl puffing her cheeks like a chipmunk. Her emerald green eyes was so lively but Olivia could see that there was something bothering her.
"Lily come here, your pigtails are coming off." said Olivia as she helped Lily to tie them back.
Liliya Reddwind, was a kind, cheerful girl. She had shining pitch black hair that complimented her fair skin beautifully.
She was Olivia's best friend since they were infants.
They were always together. They almost looked like twins.
The only difference was Olivia's hair was naturally red and she had unique sky blue eyes. Because her hair always attracted too much attention she usually dyed her hair with black.
Olivia's father, Thomas Claimon and Lily's father, Michael Reddwind were also childhood friends.
They both worked as field scientists. Due to their research purposes, they had to travel a lot.
They never started in a particular country more than a year. Because of this the two girls were flaunt in many languages.
This year they had been staying in Sri Lanka, a small, beautiful country in the Indian ocean.
They went to an international school in Galle. Which is a city on the southwest coast of the country. Despite the fact that they were foreigners, they fitted quite well with the locals. So they didn't have any problem with the different culture or language.
The school bus arrived at 6.30am. As soon as they entered the bus driver greeted them, "good morning, I heard you are leaving soon." He was a old man with a gray mustache.
The two girls greeted him at the same time, then Olivia said excitedly that they were going to Mexico this time.
"I'm actually really sad" said Lily. "l really like this country."
"well, the fact that you like my country makes me really happy." said the bus driver cheerfully.
The first seats were occupied by some girls from Southland, it is a renown girls school in the area. They all smiled and greeted the girls. As they pass by one of the Southland girls stood up and gave them two small presents.
"These aren't much, just cookies" said the girl. "We all wanted to give you a parting gift. Since we've been going to school together for a year. Safe travels."
Olivia and Lily was so touched. It is true that they had been going to school in the same bus, but they haven't talk for more than the 'good morning's and the 'good bye's.
The girls sincerely thanked them and went to the back.
There was not a single seat left that would fit for two. When the girls were about to sit separately, two boys from Richmond college, got up and offered their seats saying they were about to get off.
Lily thanked them and sit near the window. Olivia followed her and sit next to her.
The boys went to the front and after about fifteen minutes they got off with some boys from their school.
As soon as Olivia sit down, she took out a lovely book with flowers all over the cover and started writing something.
"What are you doing?" asked Lily "Don't tell me you are studying again... Please, it's the last day of school."
"I forgot to sign Emily's autograph" said Olivia as a-matter-of-factly.
"Yah, that's what I thought..." Lily said sarcastically but she seemed distracted.
"Hey, Via... Aa... Can I tell you something? Co... Could you just...just listen... I know it is nonsense, I mean... It.. It was just a dream.." said Lily while making sure no one heard her.
"Tell me about it."
"OK...Don't get mad..." she hesitanted, she looked worried and Olivia had never seen her like that before. It was like she was terrified of something and running away. Olivia was concerned but she didn't show it.
"Tell me... Are you going to make me wait until I grow old...?" She tired to act cheerfully but failed, she had a bad feeling about what Lily's was going to tell.
"You know, today our parents are going to Colombo, right?" asked Lily still uncertain whether or not to tell this.
"Yes" said Olivia calmly.
"In my dream... In the middle of the highway an oil bourse came right at them. It crashes to our parents car and exported leaving nothing. While that happened... I just stud there without even an expression... Then there was this man, in a black suit beside me, he said something but I was just watching... I mean... I could have...."
"You could have what?... Saved them?" asked Olivia looking straight in to Lily's eyes.
"well..." Lily's eyes were filled with tears. She was always very sensitive to these kind of things. Whenever the news reports about an accident or a tragic situation she would always end up crying, out of sadness for the victims. She was so innocent. So Olivia knew that dreaming about her parents death was really painful for her.
"Don't be ridiculous," said Olivia
"it's just a stupid dream. They are just illustration form our fears...And nightmares don't come ture. You know that." Olivia tried to laugh but couldn't, because she was pale as a white sheet of paper herself.
No! It has to be a coincidence.
"But it felt so real" murmured Lily as tears ran down her soft cheeks.
"Lily listen, you said in your dream our parents were in the same car. But in reality, they went separately, right? So nothing going to happen." said Olivia.
Right, nothing's going to happen.
Olivia took a deep breath to calm herself. She was shocked because she had been having a similar dream for almost a week now. Because it was disturbing she didn't tell about it to anyone.
So how come Lily dreamt the same thing...?
Lily whipped her tears and slapped both of her cheeks, like telling herself to get a grip.
"You are right, what am l thinking. _ OH! We are already here... Have fun at the last day with your friends."
Lily smiled and got off the bus saying 'bye' to the old bus driver. Then she fled to the school.
After Lily, Olivia also went to the school ignoring all the bad feelings she had about the dreams.
As for Lily's kindness and cuteness, she was always warmly welcomed by her friends. She was quite famous in their school and as for Olivia, she was... also the same.
Because they were transferred students from a foreign country, Olivia and lily made sure that their behaviour is not too different from the local students.
That's how the two girls survive, living in those different schools in different countries. They quickly got adapted to their changed environment and followed the rules around the area. So that they won't feel out of the place.
When Olivia entered her classroom ; 11-A, her classmates popped out screaming, "SURPRISE!!!"
At the same time her 'best friend for a year' jumped out of nowhere and hugged her like a kola. Olivia was surprised. She lost her balance as Natasha jumped on her, so they both fell to the ground.
Must say that was quite the treat for the boys.
Natasha was a tan girl with brown eyes. Her curly short hair along with her spectacles gave her a really cute look.
Needless to say the spectacles was for show. But nobody knew except for Olivia.
"Hey get up...! You are putting up a show here..." and that's their class's typical rich girl, Sophie De Silver.
She gave Olivia a hand while saying "What do you think about your party? Consider yourself lucky to have a rich friend like me."
Since Sophie's daddy was a powerful politician in the country, almost everybody tried to avoid her and made sure to only get on her good side.
She was also very, very proud of herself, making everybody hate her.
But after she met Olivia her personality changed for the better and she even got good grades thanks to her.
"My party... You say?" Olivia was puzzled. It can't be their farewell party, because just yesterday they held a party at a restaurant to say goodbye to them.
Most of the students were staying in the school hostels, and today they will be going home.
So they decided to hold the party yesterday, when everybody could came.
So... that being said, who's party is this again?
"Oh.. Girl... We are so proud of you... So we all agreeed to celebrate our last day party just for you.." Natasha hugged Olivia fot the second time.
"Why... Is that?" Olivia was still confused.
"You are the first! the first they say... Aren't you excited?" said Natasha jumping.
"Stop confusing her and tell her already." said James clearly annoyed. He was pale looking boy. He always had eye bags under his eyes.
It is said that since he was in grade school he always came in first in all of the term tests up until now.
"Congratulations bestie, you are the section first" said Natasha while squishing a balloon.
"NO WAY... Stop pulling pranks guys" Olivia did expect to get a good grade but she didn't expect this. She couldn't believe it.
"Well as much as I don't want to admit it, You're the first, congratulations." said James as if he was going to throw up.
Well if James said it, it must be true..
"Go look for yourself, it's on the noticeboard." said Natasha dusting her own uniform. That girl couldn't keep still even for a minute.
Olivia put her bag away and ran to the to the noticeboard.
"Congratulations Via..."
Lily came running at Olivia on her way and hugged her. She was jump over and over like a little bunny, joy bursting through her eyes.
She has forgotten all about the nightmares.
Olivia was relived to see Lily's true smile again.
They had the wildest party in their school. No teacher dared to stop them since it was the last day before the holidays. It was epic until Olivia was summoned to the staffroom. Since she was the class monitor on that term she wasn't surprised t all.
But she was a little taken back when the section head teacher told her to sit in front of her. She thought she was in trouble. She tried to remember as far as she could to, try and remember if she did something wrong.
Suddenly the teacher opened her mouth with rage in her eyes. Olivia shouted her eyes as she thought she was going to get yelled. But all she heard.... " Sorry "
